Product Information

It's retro, it's chic, it's all-tube and it's all Vox.

Way back in 1961, Vox rolled out the AC4 amplifier. Nearly fifty years later, Vox is pleased to announce the AC4TV—the all-tube practice amp with remarkable self control. This up-to-date Class A version retains the distinctive EL84 power tube of the original AC4 amp and features a 12AX7 powered pre-amp, all driving a custom-made Celestion 10" speaker. The sophisticated sound is unmistakably Vox, delivering that distinctively British top-end tone.

Simple and sexy, the AC4TV wears its pedigree proudly. The cabinetry features the same TV front design first used on the classic 1958 AC15, and still in use on today's AC15H1TV Heritage Series. One of the challenges confronting an all-tube amp is retaining a full tone at lower volumes. To solve this issue, the AC4TV features a built-in power attenuator, with 4-watt, 1-watt and ¬-watt output levels—ensuring you never lose that classic tube tone, even at the lowest listening levels.

The AC4TV also adds a 16-Ohm speaker output, allowing you to add an additional cabinet and state your sonic signature with authority.

With our Guaranteed Lowest Price, you can be assured of complete satisfaction and the lowest available price, or your money back!

Vox AC4TV 4W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp Features:

There is no substitute

Watched/listened to all the demos on you-tube and elsewhere of this amp and got very interested. Unfortunately there was almost no example of someone playing a Les Paul or similar through it for a hard rock/metal sound. If you are looking for an amp to shred through with a sound like late 80s speed metal, this won't do without a solid state pedal in front of it. However, if you are looking for a more classical dark growl, roar and punch sound like Tony Iommi or a powerful straight ahead hard rock sound like Angus Young or Joe Perry you can get there with your Les Paul plugged straight in, no pedals required. The amp is very responsive to the player and the guitar. The 10" Celestion speaker is clearly better than typical for this price range, however if you are looking for some heavy thump in your sound, you will need an external cab with 12s in it--this could be due to the closed-back design. It does sound great for bright chimey strat/tele sounds, however. At the 4 watt setting, it is very loud for anyone but 16 year old mountain dew freaks. At 4 watts you can get nice clean round chimey sounds at bedroom level from your strat. It does break up quickly, and at the 1/4 watt setting you can go into full marshall meltdown at a level that just drowns out the acoustical sound of your guitar--absolutely great for people who still want to be able to hear when they turn 50. You might think that you won't get a good thick sound at such a low level. Not so here. There are a lot of great amp modeling devices out there, speaker simulators etc., but there just is no substitute for the interaction between a player, guitar, and a real tube amp. The amp is part of the instrument, and now you can have the real thing at a sane volume level, and at an amazing price. I used to spend hours dialing around on my pedalboard trying to create "my sound." Now I just plug in and spend the time actually playing. What a concept... If you are on the fence, just do it-you won't be disappointed unless what you are really looking for is an AC30 or Marshall with multi-channel operations, eq, and built in reverb etc.

Great tone and good looks

This is a great little amp! Wonderful tone from the tubes and 10" speaker. I was looking at digital modeling amps, but wanted to get my first tube amp. This one delivers great clean sounds with a good bit of headroom and a great warm sound when the gain is turned up. Has a built in attenuator so you can play 4Watts, 1Watt or 1/4Watt. For such a small amp, it can get pretty loud. Also has an external jack to plug into a cab. This is a very versatile amp with incredible sound.

Great Little Amp

This amp goes from comfortable volumes to surprisingly loud ones, and the tome is warm and comfortable to hear. Driving it to overdrive really puts you in a great place too. Overdrive is very touch-responsive, and picking dynamics really make a difference with this amp. Good harmonics response too, whether natural or pinched. Loves pedals, too. This amp and my USA Big Muff Pi is straight-up tone heaven.

OMG!!!

I'd been hearing the buzz about this little amp in the trade mags and on Youtube since January. Bring a writer of music for film and television, I'm always looking for more sound flexibility. Thinking that the AC4 would be a nice addition to my early 70's Fender Blues Jr. and and my '81 Marshall JCM 800 combo amps for recording, I bought one. I found that for pop, indie and some blues tracks, this little amp is perfect. You wouldn't think that with just volume, tone and wattage selection knobs, that you could get so much tonal variety. From dark and brooding to sparkling and chimey, the AC4 has a lot of personality. If I want a bit more gain, I use an Ibanez TS9 (circa 1985)Tube Screamer and a MXR dyna comp with Srats. One of best purchases I've made in a long, long time. For this much value, the price is unbeatable! If you do any recording, you gotta get one!

Ideal Amp - Don't Read More Reviews, Just Do It!

Amazing VOX tone. This 4W amp is the real deal. I was on the fence until I went to Guitar Center and played it. I was still not convinced after playing it in the big open room.... What helped my decision was one of the guys in the store took me to the quiet room and hooked me up to a huge Marshall cab. I really could hear the power of the tubes and the sound fidelity. I didn't think about it anymore. I decided to get it. If I want to "upgrade" I will just buy a 12 or higher cab... Also, if you get the Guitar Center GP you cannot go wrong. It only makes sense to get it. I live in an apartment and it is perfect to play at night and get the FULL range of crunch you want! Honestly the 1/4, 1, 4W variance ability is very practical! All I need now is to throw away my Line6 PODxt and get a Shure SM57 to record amazing tracks in my bedroom. There is nothing that compares to it. Just get it. You will not be disappointed. My personal favorite is the tone at 12, the Volume at 10, and the wattage at 1. Beautiful crunch without bothering anyone... switch it up to 4 and you have a great volume/tone to jam with friends in a small setting.
