The VOX AC30VR Valve Reactor combo amp uses an "old-school" split-panel design, the AC30VR offers 2 distinct channels—Normal and Overdrive—with the Overdrive channel adding a separate Gain knob. In addition, the VOX amp's overdrive Style button delivers 2 distinctive flavors.
Equipped with 2 custom-designed 12" Celestion speakers, the VOX AC30VR combo delivers a roaring 30W of power. The Normal channel offers both Bass and Treble tone controls, along with a single Volume knob. A Gain knob has been added to the Overdrive channel, as well as a Middle control for more defined tone shaping. In the Master section, the AC30VR features a unique Tone Cut circuit knob for dampening the high-end frequencies. Master Reverb and Master Volume controls are also provided.
The VOX AC30VR amplifier's back panel is equipped with an external speaker jack for use with an 8 Ohm extension cabinet. Using an extension cabinet will mute the internal speaker. Also provided is a jack for the optional VOX VFS2 dual footswitch (not included), which offers hands-free channel-switching and reverb on/off action.

This amp is a sweet deal. It looks cosmetically awesome and has a beautiful tone. The distortion channels are perfect overdrive 1 for your bluesy B.B. King sound and overdrive 2 for your more modern rock distortion. The problem i had with this amp is it lacks serious volume. I know many a folk have said "oh yeah its loud. " maybe if your playing in a church. I had to crank all volumes on full and still was lacking the volume. If your just a guy sitting in a bedroom playing for fun this is for you. If you are someone gigging and wanting to be heard I don't think this will fit the bill. At the very least I would strongly recommend trying one before buying one and do not go on the reviews and youtube videos alone. I did and was sadly disappointed.
I am shopping for an amp. I played this one today. This amp sounds very nice! The only reason I didn't buy it is because it doesn't have onboard tremolo or an effects loop. If those aren't a big deal to you, you should try out this amp.. The distortion sounded good. The clean channel sounded good. I also tried a Fender all-tube amp and this hybrid Vox blew it away.
I don't actually own this amp yet but when I get the money I'll probably buy it.
The sound is just great, unlike the vt series which was just okay.
The ac30vr sounds like authentic tube sound, obviously not exactly the same as the real ac30 but pretty good anyway.
Its great for blues or classic rock but I'd say if you hit the switch for heavier distortion that its heavy enough even for hard rock or maybe some metal.
remember you can always buy a stompbox if you need heavier distortion.
The beautiful clean sound and classic crunch is important to me, if I need more distortion I'll just buy a metal muff or something.
I've been waiting for vox to come out with a hybrid that sounds more like the ac30 and now I have it.
