Overview

The Visual Sound Route 66 multi-effects pedal gives you the great tone guitarists have come to love, plus an added noise reduction system that gives you that quiet ride you've always wanted. Classic compression combined with classic overdrive--these two effects sound great on their own, but combine them, as the Route 66 pedal has, and get the ultimate combination in a single pedal pedal.

The V2 Route 66 pedal features redesigned noise reduction on the compressor channel, and additional low-drive range on the overdrive channel. The great-sounding overdrive channel is modeled after the sound of the original Tube Screamer, but it also has a bass boost switch. The compressor can be set for classic squash or clean boost with the unique preamp stage and gain knob. This allows for a truckload of clean gain. The compressor even has its own tone control. The 2 effects can be used independently or combined to complement one another.

In 1999, Visual Sound made the statement "Our Route 66 is sure to become as legendary as its namesake." With countless great guitarists using it ever since, the Route 66 pedal from Visual Sound has become just that, a legend!

The V2RT66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal features a diecast aluminum housing, ultra-reliable 10 million cycle switching, easy battery access and circuit protection from AC adapters. Wide and sturdy stomp switches designed by Bob Weil himself. And a redesigned, noise-free experience. This version of the Route 66 pedal has raised the bar for years to come.

Essential Effects Pedal

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I do not normally write reviews, but liked the Visual Sound Route 66 pedal so well that I wanted to share my thoughts. While it is touted as the combination of a compressor and overdrive pedal, it is really much more versatile than that. You get a lot of pedal for a reasonable price. First, if both channels are off, the pedal has a "TrueTone bypass" buffer. While some buffered pedals affect your guitar's tone, this buffer protects your guitar's tone, even if you are using long cables. Thus, this should be the first pedal in your chain (except for your tuner). Coaxial cables, especially long ones, have capacitance that will affect tone; the buffer shields your guitar pickups from that capacitance. This buffer does not "suck" tone as some buffers might. If the compressor is turned on, you can adjust the knobs for just the right amount of compression, sustain, and/or a clean boost. The compressor channel compares quite favorably with the best compressor pedals available, even boutique or vintage pedals selling at far higher prices. Any type of gain pedal, whether clean boost, overdrive, or distortion amplifies any hum or noise you might be getting from the guitar. This pedal contains a noise gate that eliminates that noise. You do not have to pay extra for a noise reduction pedal. If you do not like noise gates, you can turn it off. The overdrive channel uses the same op amp used by vintage overdrive pedals. It is the same circuit as the Visual Sound Route 808 pedal. It can hold its own with any overdrive pedal on the market. You can adjust for a variety of overdrive flavors that mimic a vintage tube amp. If you use the clean boost feature of the compressor channel, you can drive the overdrive channel harder, especially if placed ahead of a tube amp or the gain channel of a solid state amp. However, I like the smooth, creamy, vintage overdrive sound you get ahead of a clean channel. This is NOT intended to be a distortion pedal for hard rock, metal, etc. Although fabricated in China, the quality and construction of the pedal is first rate. The foot switches are better than those most manufacturers use. The only drawback is that the pedal comes with rubber on the bottom. While this is great for pedals used on the floor, if you intend to use Velcro to attach the pedal to a pedal board, you will have to remove the rubber first.

Phenominal Pedal!

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

In my opinion, the two best pedals out there are made by Visual Sound. They would be this and the Jekyll & Hyde. The compression on this pedal is great and the overdrive CAN NOT be beat. If you plan on playing anything really heavy (punk, thrash, metal), you NEED the Jekyll & Hyde. If you are playing any other rock style, blues, or country; you NEED the the Route 66. Enough said, this pedal is fantastic.

Wow!

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I have been tone searching for while now and when I played with the Route 66 I was set. I had been looking for the John Mayer,SRV, and Hendrix tone and it covers it. Not only does it create all these tones, but it leaves room for you to find your own tone. The compression has a nice clean feel to it and it grows on you fast. The overdrive is loud and proud. It takes any tone and adds some guts to it. The thing is built like a tank and so far has failed me yet. So in all it's an amazing pedal for blues or blues-esce players.

Great Overdrive, poor compressor

By joseph shaker

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

Features : In theory it is supposed be great pedal. I love the sound overdrive. It can give me a very wide range of sounds, dfrom blues all the way to punk. But, when i turn the compresser on,even with max gain, there is a significant volume cut. Quality: I have only owned the pdal for 3 days. The LEDs on the overdrive side are barely noticeable for whether they are on or not. Look & Feel, This pedal looks and feels great. It is a little heave but the switchses have the perfect amount of tension. Conclusion: I will probably trade this pedal in for a double trouble or a jekyll and hyde. I love the overdrive but the compresser was very poorly made

Get it now and step on it

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I went to my local GC and actually tried this pedal out, constantly changing the settings on both the overdrive and compression to hear the sounds and decided then that I have to have this pedal. Went home, got online and ordered it, arrived in less than a week, put it in sequence on pedal board and love it! It is fantastic! What a great addition to playing live and nailing it when and where your sounds need to be. Awesome! Get it now!!! Make sure to get your accessories and get busy with it. It does everything it's hyped up to be. Quality is outstanding; durable, capable of handling many stomps; lights let you know which side is active, which is helpful when stage lighting is very low. I like the looks of this pedal; has a bit of retro in it. Very good pedal; get to GC quickly!

Best Pedal: Bar None

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

i have played with/experimented with, possibly every, overdrive pedal made or accessible and have found that most/all of them sound either like clones of, or close to the ts808 or ts9. that said, the overdrive channel has its own voice and its own grit. great sound and nice grind. compression is sweet, has its own character, nice and silent, all around great pedal. recommend this pedal to anyone and anyone who pickups a guitar.

This is the distortion you're looking for

By Mr. Drive

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

Dont waste your time buying cheap distortion pedals then seeing how dead your sound is/ and then spending more money on sustain, compression and noise gates. This pedal is the real deal, it takes care of ALLLLL your problems. The Ibanez TS is a good pedal but it cant do the job this pedal can. With the TS you have to get some compression but with this it gives you just perfect distortion and tone and then it sustains it!!! mmmmhhhh its beautiful. And it actually saves you money cus you dont have to waste your time cleaning up your cheap pedals. this is all you need!!!

Just buy it!

By Jeremy Blaska

from Tecumseh, MI

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

The route 66 is one of the coolest effect pedals I have ever had on my board in 20 years of playing. The compression side does not alter your tone like many other compressors. The overdrive side gives everything from a silky smooth tube like tone to a real bite with the gain up. I use this pedal with both electric and acoustic guitar. I am able to get a great dirty sound through the acoustic without feedback thanks to the noise reduction feature. All in all, the Route 66 is a great bundle of features and effects for a very reasonable price.
