I've been using these headphones for about two weeks now and they impress me. They don't go very loud but keep in mind that they don't need to because all ambient noise is cut by 24 decibels. Very good for drumming (ear protection), on stage perfomance, or just listening to your music and removing all that noise you don't want to listen to.

I got these same head phones a couple of years ago, they where great head phone, I used them for playing drums and I was more then satisfied with them. but they finally gave out, so I decided I would buy another pair, I got them and they sounded like junk! practically all the low end was gone from them. because the low end was gone it made it very difficult to hear what the drum track in the song was while playing to it.
I decided to fix up my old pair to compare, there was a world of difference! these head phones sound distant and lack bass, while the older copy made for a great blend and a high presence. Its the same price as the old pair only now its audio quality is allot worse.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

Vic firth really needs to redesign these headphones. Went through three pairs in 2 years, used other headphones in between that time. All of them had the same problem as the other reviewers here. One of the speakers would always stop working on them, but I just delt with it everytime. The sound quality isn't great for mixing or listening, they're more for drummers when tracking or practicing to music (Hence why they would only be in the drum dept. at GC)... They are very uncomfortable after about an hour. The headband on one side that connects to the speakers ended up snapping on my last pair. Great isolation but that's it. Hopefully one day they'll fix these issues, until then I'll stick to other options.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

I just had to review this because it's important that you don't purchase these headphones. Vic Firth is obviously a great drum stick company, but apparently they have no business being in the audio industry. Some of the worst sounding headphones I've ever heard. Just don't. Please.

If you're using them simply to protect your ears while drumming there are so many other products out there that are better and cheaper. The only thing these would work for is practicing with a click, but again, so many in-ear headphones will do the same thing, and have the advantage of being able to listen to music while you play. You can't listen to music while you play with these headphones because the quality is so poor. Mine were tinny and quiet. Also, seemed to distort slightly.

Since buying the Vic Firth cans, I purchased the Shure SE215 in ear buds for 100 bux after rebate and they sound amazing. No they're not perfect, but I'm telling you, it's night and day. The shure in-ear's cut out a lot of your drum sounds, so that's a con, but it's still a much better option than the Vic Firth headphones, and then you also have some decent in-ear monitors for the stage if you ever need them.

Also, the Vic Firth headphones seem to magnify bass around you, so if you're in a rehearsal building, you'll be able to hear other drummers and bass players louder than if you had in-ear headphones. Louder.

I may have just gotten a bum pair, but my store wouldn't take them back...so if the store doesn't let you try them before you buy them, seriously don't.

I got this to drown out noisy office-mates while video editing, but honestly...sometimes I just put em on when I'm NOT editing or listening to music. Really takes down the noise of personal conversations & loud speaker-phone calls from inconsiderate co-workers. Love these!!

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

I bought these headphones a few years ago. They still work fine, but here are some of the pros and cons:

          Pros:
          1) Fairly comfortable, and they block out a decent amount of noise while playing drums

          Cons:
          1) Audio quality is poor, not at all balanced sounding. Mine are too bass-heavy but I've also heard some people say it is too treble-heavy, meaning that the quality control for this product is pretty bad.
          2) Even when your music is set to max volume, these headphones aren't very loud. The fact that they isolate the sound better than other over-ear headphones is kinda cancelled out by the fact that they don't get very loud. I still can't hear the music very well over the sound of the drums even when set to max volume.

I wouldn't recommend this product. If you are a drummer, the best "cheap" solution is to invest in a decent pair of earbuds and then buy a pair of noise-protection earmuffs at your hardware store. This product attempted to combine these two ideas into one, but fell short.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

Since there are very few options for iso phones in this price range I find myself buying these again and again. Why? Because I'm an idiot I guess! These are built to break within 50 to 100 hours of use. If you don't believe me I'll show you a photo of my broken pile of these pieces of total garbage. The last pair, and I mean LAST I will ever buy gave out after 6 months in the studio. The warranty is only for 90 days! They obviously know it's a bad product but that it will usually last at least 90 days, which they will unless you are tracking with them every day. They are very difficult to take apart and fix on your own. I have watched some you tube videos on people rigging them to last longer but that just goes to show you how lame they are! I would like a lot of money back from these guys. Don't do it!

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

these have great isolation for studio tracking but there is a pretty serious design flaw that has somehow never been corrected. the left channel will short out pretty quickly on these - often within a few months. check some forums, this happens all the time. their warranty, which is found nowhere on the packaging, is only for 90 days. if they could fix this design issue, they would have a great product. i have recording studio and have never had headphones with such short lifespans - even $20 sennheisers.

I was hoping to buy these for tracking drums in the studio. I will still use them, but you cannot trust the sound coming out of them. They have no bass response at all. On the plus side though, they do isolate your ears; almost as much as my Skull Candy Fix earbuds. sometimes when tracking vocals, your singer wants his cans turned up ridiculously high. I've never been sure why, but I might try these to keep tracks from bleeding into the mic for those half deaf "professionals".
