I've been using these headphones for about two weeks now and they impress me. They don't go very loud but keep in mind that they don't need to because all ambient noise is cut by 24 decibels. Very good for drumming (ear protection), on stage perfomance, or just listening to your music and removing all that noise you don't want to listen to.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

The 'phones hit the right marks at this price point. They do a good job of reducing ambient noise while providing decent sound, and they're comfortable too. The other reviews seem to be all over the place regarding the sound quality, but, to my ear, these provide balanced output with a slight boost in the higher frequencies. They provide great clarity, but with a slight drop in fullness. For the original purpose of recording or playing with drums, I think this balance would be appropriate. My own purpose is traveling and working with music at home, and I'm happy with the purchase for these purposes. I also find myself just putting them on to reduce ambient noise.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

Vic firth really needs to redesign these headphones. Went through three pairs in 2 years, used other headphones in between that time. All of them had the same problem as the other reviewers here. One of the speakers would always stop working on them, but I just delt with it everytime. The sound quality isn't great for mixing or listening, they're more for drummers when tracking or practicing to music (Hence why they would only be in the drum dept. at GC)... They are very uncomfortable after about an hour. The headband on one side that connects to the speakers ended up snapping on my last pair. Great isolation but that's it. Hopefully one day they'll fix these issues, until then I'll stick to other options.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

these have great isolation for studio tracking but there is a pretty serious design flaw that has somehow never been corrected. the left channel will short out pretty quickly on these - often within a few months. check some forums, this happens all the time. their warranty, which is found nowhere on the packaging, is only for 90 days. if they could fix this design issue, they would have a great product. i have recording studio and have never had headphones with such short lifespans - even $20 sennheisers.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

I was hoping to buy these for tracking drums in the studio. I will still use them, but you cannot trust the sound coming out of them. They have no bass response at all. On the plus side though, they do isolate your ears; almost as much as my Skull Candy Fix earbuds. sometimes when tracking vocals, your singer wants his cans turned up ridiculously high. I've never been sure why, but I might try these to keep tracks from bleeding into the mic for those half deaf "professionals".

Vic Firth Gets A Bad Name

              By Joe

              from Colliers WV

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

Well these are sound isolating....in all ways!!! When I first got into recording 6 years ago I purchased these for my drum room, I never gave a thought to Vic Firth putting out a miserable product, the sound was incorrigible. I quickly proceeded to switching out mics, mixers, heads...everything only to accidentally trying out a pair of Yamaha RH5MA's,that I purchaced for general monitoring, although the RH5MA's are not an isolation style headphone I imminently became aware that the Vic Firth product was complete junk. I mean these Yamaha can are only 60 bucks not exactly high end money... I use Shure SE215's for drumming live, they are durable and sound great..although there is a learning curve.

Great Audio, But Not Good For Long Sessions

              By Kyle

              from San Diego, CA

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

These are great headphones, and work like a tank. I've beat them up so much using them for drumming and mixing and they still sound just as good as the day I bought them, which was quite a few years ago. But the sucky part is (and ironically, what helps them isolate so well) they're so tight they hurt my ears and give me a headache. If the cups were just a little bigger this wouldn't be a problem. Maybe I just have big ears, but after a while the cartilage in my ears starts to get crushed, hot, and painful wearing these. Almost like I just got done with a couple wrestling matches. For fear of cauliflower ears, I've given these to a younger brother and swapped them for some Yamahas. His ears are smaller, and they work just fine for him.
