Wonderful, perfectly balanced stick.

By Thomas Faulkner

from Signal Mountain, TN

Comments about Vic Firth American Jazz Hickory Drumsticks:

I've been using Vic Firth sticks for AGES, and tried many sizes. 5A, 5AX, 7A, Boleros, you name it. But my last couple of years of stick selection has been focused around trying to find the best sticks for jazz. I've been using the Pro Mark 7As for a while, and they are wonderful, but I just ordered some AJ4s, and they are honestly the best sticks I've ever owned. I've been trying for so long to find a stick soft, responsive, and nimble enough for jazz, but not to a point where tonal quality is lost, out of either the cymbals or drums. The AJ4s (and I'm sure the other American Jazz models) do just that; the long taper gives it such a nice, balanced feel, and the bead sounds lovely on cymbals. From a very, very picky stick guy, this stick is definitely the way to go for not only jazz, but plenty of other styles as well for wonderful sounding music. I highly recommend them.

AJ1 - Replacing my 7A's

By Robert Haenggi

from Tillamook, OR

Comments about Vic Firth American Jazz Hickory Drumsticks:

I had been using 7A's for all the small-venued gigs I play. A student let me try the AJ1's, and it didn't take long to appreciate the difference. Heavier on the back end - the AJ1's facilitate better rebound. The narrower taper gets better clarity out of my jazz-ride patterns. And yes, they're surprisingly sturdy, though I would switch to 5A's for more volume.

Great Sticks

By Jim

from Salt Lake City, Utah

Comments about Vic Firth American Jazz Hickory Drumsticks:

When I bought these sticks I didn't expect much, I just wanted more sticks. But these are great! They have very nice rebound. They are light but not too light, perfect if you like fast sticks. I have had these sticks for 6 weeks and they stick look like I just bought them. They're a great buy!

AJ1 Best new stick

By Player 1

from Evansville,IN

Comments about Vic Firth American Jazz Hickory Drumsticks:

Dont let the thin taper look on these sticks fool you. These sticks take the punishment and deliver the perfect balance in sound for your situation. I initially bought 2 prs. of the AJ2s for a theater production and thought that they would probably break within a couple of performances. Not only did they last 2 performances, but they never broke the entire run of the show and I stil have both pairs intact in my stick bag to this day. I tryed out the AJ1s later, and to date, the AJ1s are my prefered stick FOR EVERY Type of music that I have played so far. They deliver enough volume when you need them to, and the small acorn tips fit right in perfectly to the mix. They took a little getting used to as far as feel, being very light, but now evey other stick just doesnt feel right. Best new stick on the market.

The Perfect Stick

By drummer guy

from Evansville, IN

Comments about Vic Firth American Jazz Hickory Drumsticks:

I have been looking at different models of sticks it seems for decades now trying to find the perfect stick.Bought 2 prs. of the AJ1s,put them away in my stick bag and really didnt take them seriously, since they really didnt have the dimensions I was looking for. When you look at them your first thought is that they will break immediately. After hearing a few drummers brag about them, I reluctantly gave them a try. Best stick ever! The thin taper flexes and the hickory keeps them strong! I can use these with small jazz trios and then in large auditoriums playing Praise and Worship. The tips are very articulate on cymbals, balance is great and they can deliver punch when you need them to. They work for everything! Check them out!

Vic Firth Jazz Sticks

By Boonedrums

from Boone, Iowa

Comments about Vic Firth American Jazz Hickory Drumsticks:

I have been in the search for a perfect stick for decades. For my needs, the Vic Firth Jazz sticks come the closest. Most of my playing is in the jazz trio setting where I have to be careful of volume. The AJ6 works well for faster playing on the cymbals as it is a very light stick and allows for some nice, delicate playing. However, the sound projection on lower toms is not very good. The wood tips also tend to shred after a few hours of playing. The AJ3,AJ4 and AJ5 are a more versatile stick for me. They work well for big band, rock, latin as well as small ensembles. They draw out good tone from the cymbals and toms. The tips of these sticks tend to stay intact longer.

Great.

By Drumrdude

from Jonesboro AR

Comments about Vic Firth American Jazz Hickory Drumsticks:

This Vic forth drum stick is one of my favorites there is. Great for hard hitting drummers because these last a long time. They sound great with 2 ply heads, and they also sound really warm. Great for rock. I like them allot. Bye the way, all the sizes are good.

Vic Firth AJ6

By GHCCDrummer

from Antioch, CA

Comments about Vic Firth American Jazz Hickory Drumsticks:

The Vic Firth AJ6 line of sticks has amazing rebound and articulation on cymbals and drums. Their smaller size naturally produces much quieter sound and I find them very suitable for small jazz combos or any band that requires lower volumes. The only downside with these sticks is their narrow diameter. The narrow diameter causes hands to tense up their muscles more because the fingers have to be more closed in order to hold the stick. For a wider, more-relaxed grip, choose the AJ1's.
