A hip trick now revealed by the master.

Steve Gadd and Vic Firth have solved the age-old problem of wire brushes snagging on new coated drumheads. By slightly angling the wires in the top 3/4" of the playing end, Steve Gadd wire brushes glide across the drum head with a smooth sweep and a velvet swish sound. The angled wires also increase surface contact to generate increased volume.

  • Brushes

This is the finest set of brushes I have ever owned. They are designed for superior sound and are easy to handle. I also like the sleeve because it does not expose any metal that can cause damage and scratches.

  • Metal sheds on heads

As reviewed by KIRK FITZGERALD on 8/20/2012

These brushes play great, sound great, but are leaving a metalic hue on the snare drum. Otherwise they are great.

  • Much better than plastic.

As reviewed by Jerry on 12/5/2014

I've been using plastic brushes for years - that's what I ended up with at some point when I started out and they never broke so I've just been using the same plastic brushes for years. But, when I recently recorded with them I wasn't happy with the tone or volume so I checked these out and love them. Picked them up from the local store and played a gig with them that night. They give me a much more audible brush effect and also a bit more volume when I strike the snare head. On cymbals they are soooo much nicer. Gives me a very nice tone off the ride and there's enough muscle in the wire to get a quiet crash on a thin crash or splash cymbal. Good balance and feel. They also retract and extend smoothly. If you play music that requires brushes, these work great. I can't really comment on the angle feature - I've never had an issue with brushes hanging up on the snare head, possibly because I never used metal wire brushes, but these definitely didn't give me any trouble on that count. As far as leaving metallic smudges on the coated head, well, yeah, they do, but it doesn't affect anything except the appearance of the head. I suppose it that's a big thing for you, you can always buy some of that textured coated head spray paint and touch up your coated snare head every night. But, I probably won't.
