Overview

Sharing their technology and compiled feedback from pro DJs and users from around the world, Vestax and Serato have created the VCI-300 DJ Controller, a dedicated DJ USB MIDI/Audio system that includes Serato's ITCH software for absolute control. The VCI-300 also comes with a built-in audio interface with standard 4 In/4 Out and headphone connection, which means all you need for DJing is the VCI-300, a laptop, and a set of headphones.

High-resolution Control
The Vestax VCI-300 can control more than 90 parameters and functions of the included Serato software with high-resolution MIDI signals sent via USB. The pulse resolution of the jog wheel and pitch control fader is 4 times higher than the VCI-100, and provides precise control of each function. The pitch control fader also shares the same high quality fader parts of the input fader for advanced operability.

Superb Audio Characteristic
The built-in audio interface carries an Audio Codec IC with superb audio characteristic, generated by a delta-sigma modulation 24-bit stereo D/A-A/D converter. The audio connection includes 1 stereo input, 1 MIC input, and 2 stereo outputs (Master L/R, Monitor L/R).

Level Indication
A 12 level LED L/R indicator is set in the center of the top panel to monitor sound levels.

File Control
Audio files in the software library can be easily selected and controlled with the CRATES/FILES/BROWSE key and the cursor switch.

Emergency Thru Switch
The Emergency Thru Switch located on the rear panel is a countermeasure where you can use the VCI-300 with the provided ITCH software or without the computer connected if you simply want to play music from your external CD or MP3 player. The ITCH software reads music from your iTunes library or the Serato library you use for Scratch LIVE, making it a practical device for recreational and professional DJ's alike.

Adjustable Jog Wheel Torque
The torque of each weight-adjusted jog wheel can be adjusted to prevent them from moving from low frequency feedback and altering the pitch when using the VCI-300 DJ controller in such places like clubs.

Fader Curve Control
The fader curve of each fader can be adjusted to the preferred characteristics for long mixes, scratching, and any other style.

Serato ITCH
Serato ITCH is an integrated software and hardware solution for a range of mixing styles from super-clubs to house parties. Perfect for digital music selectors, DJ, radio stations and music lovers that want more control, this high performance portable music system allows internal mixing and platter style playback control. It also creates one-to-one hardware-to-software mapping for instant control and minimum setup time.

Bought this when it barely came out, was as easy as plug and play to setup! I just installed the drivers and Serato Itch, plugged this baby in, and was DJing! No need to configure anything, worked flawlessly with Itch. As a professional gigging club DJ, I was tired of lugging around my heavy equipment. The VCI 300 is smaller, but don't let the looks fool you, its really well built, metal casing, high quality knobs that can withstand abuse...Serato Itch is a great clean program to use, the overlays are nice. The only downside is Itch lacks effects, and the VCI 300 only works with Serato Itch. I got around thisa by hooking up the outputs of the VCI 300 to an external mixer that did have effects. Some people might have a problem with this but I don't. I highly recommend this!

Look for the MKII model. . .

By Dj Windz One

from San Diego, CA

The older models had multiple issues with a lot of what the reviewers stated here. The newer MKII model has a lot of firmware updates and fixed issues with this unit. Nice, small footprint for gigs, but in the end, there are a few things that hold the program back. . 1) Effects controls (Vestax VFX 1 for $300 has to be purchased for full effects controls) 2) Plastic feel (Majority is acrylic for the wheels and a good weight, but it still suffers from plastic) 3) ITCH program (Don't get me wrong, its a great program, but SSL is a little more robust with more advanced features [more cue points, as I've began cue point juggling] that this should have for the Digital Dj, not just the turntablist.)

Best in MIDI controllers

By Hito Toroli

from Miami Beach

Looking for a good plug and play? Do you want something portable yet reliable? Than the VCI 300 is the best decision. I looked at other controllers and this one was the most durable and not to bad as far as price. Nobs and buttons sturdy and you can tell theyll last. ITCH is flawless to me. Easy to use. You might read about it's software freezing but thats only because the dj's laptop isnt powerful enough or the usual problems with vista. And ofcourse no FX but not a major issue. Overall good for rookie dj's to professionals. Thanks Vestax and Serato for a reliable and professional product.

Not worth spending the money on an unreliable product

By DJ Ednfct

from Henderson, NV

Vestax did a great job in concept, but bad job in execution. I have had issues with the left side not working as is well documented in the forums for Serato. Did everything that was recommended to solve the problems but the problems still persist. I bought the unit Feb '09 and turned it in for service Jan '10. Hopefully that solves the issues. The unit or itch froze up or stopped working at 2 seperate events. I have had more occurences of the left side being unresponsive multiple times while using it at home. Gonna stick with using my SL-1 set up for gigs. Loved the portability of the unit while it lasted, but this is too unreliable to use live.

Pandoras Box

By Jose Olivo

from Virginia Beach, VA

i wanted to start mixing and get into the djing scene,i was either to buy the numark or the vestex. so i went with the vestex and i think i am in love lol...this thing is by far the best i have seen out there, the only problem was that it did have no fx but thats an easy fix. one thing i can say is that you need to really have a mac or a high end windows laptop to run this smooth. in my case i am running it on a ASUS G51VX 2.0ghz core 2, 4gb ram windows vista 64 bit so as far as not supporting vista 64bit i had no issue. one last thing if you get the VCI 300 and you are using vista 64 bit do not install the cd software for it is not going to work at least thats what happened to me i had to go to the website and download the software. so dont think twice for the price this is the best out there right now...so join VCI 300 club. happy shopping

Don't waste your MONEY!!!

By DJ Outlaw

from Vegas, NV

I have used the Vestax and Numark Itch. Both was not worth the money. Vestax left table stop back queing. The Numark overheats. My best advice would be get TECHNIC TURNTABLES. It cost more but if you mix or scratch you will not like either of these. Worked fine at 1st.

This Rocks!!!

By Cav~O!

from NYC

The only way to describe this baby is INCREDIBLE! You would have to have one to understand the full effect of it all' some say it lacks effects, this is true but the music is all that really matters, the itch is packed with everything, the only thing I found strange is that some of your songs may need to be converted to mp4 format, which is so simple!!!! What a Gem! Thanx Serato for sharing your world with others it is greatly appriciated!!!

VCI 300

By DJ DOC

from Absecon, NJ

Although I am an amateur with DJ controllers, I started with the Numark Total Control about a year ago and found it was a decent machine. The VCI 300 with Serato Itch provides the versatility that I was looking for with the capability of Serato's software. The VCI 300 has exceeded my expectations and I find the pricing is worth it! I am waiting for more documentation hopefully.

Clean Cut DJ Solution

By Tyrell

from Los Angeles, CA

The VCI 300 is extremely fun to use, the controls are clean, no BS, and no latency drama. Make sure that if you're using a laptop that its at least dual core 2.0 ghz or faster, and make sure you have at least 2-4 GB of RAM. (For a gigging DJ I recommend maxing it out at 4GB) As far as Serato Itch goes, the program is really well designed. The beat spectrometer or whatever its called is brilliant, and makes manual beat matching fun! This program lacks effects, but I still enjoyed it more than Traktor. Traktor is too complicated and often times the DJ relies too much on effects, Itch strips this all down and makes the DJ actually think of creative ways to transitions songs other than the usual Reverd/Delay/Flanger formula which most DJ's are used to. I guess you can hook up an external effects processor to the VCI300 outs if you really want to, but I don't need to.
