I've used Pacato hearing protectors for a while. They were cheaper (on sale) and high quality, but I lost them and wanted something with a sturdier case. I regret this purchase.
-The sound quality is terrible, even foam earplugs are more pleasant. I am a drummer, and everything has a 'hissy' quality to it. Things are still loud at many frequencies, and not an even attenuation at all.
-They are hard, and poke out of your ears, so anything that touches them; from your fingers, to your hair, to the vibrations of your body are drastically amplified.
-On that note, there is much occlusion affect (your own voice muffling all else), so they are not good for parties.
-Also, the case is not shiny black like the picture, but hot pink textured aluminum. It makes that terrible sound like nails on a chalkboard, as when rubbing those overrated metal sticks together. I don't want that sound on my keychain.
-Apparently Vater's design team forgot about this thing called "quality assurance".

Best ear protection I have tried

    Comments about Vater Earplugs:

I used to use those orange foam earplugs that you buy at pharmacy stores. They work, but tend to cut out all but the lowest frequencies. So if you love watching metal bands you will mostly just hear bass and drums. Definitely no solos. But these earplugs do the job well and I have had my first pair for easily two years now. I use them with the red inserts for maximum protection - they cut about 30 dB of sound. The green inserts cut out about 20 dB. The frequencies are reduced evenly so most metal concerts will sound well mixed even when you are way up front. For my own band the red inserts are overkill (and in fact, that's why I am buying a second pair to use with the green inserts).

          Comments about Vater Earplugs:

These plugs have worked well for me for several years. I have hearing damage from so many years of playing live music. Reducing the volume not only protects and preserves my hearing, but loud levels can distort it as well. I go without them for a song or two, to get my bass dialed in, and then all the sounds become relatively quieter with them in. On some gigs I use them on the "loud side" in just one ear, and that's good enough. Out of several brands, I keep coming back to Vater.

            Comments about Vater Earplugs:

With adding things in your ears, there is a change in tonality... so get your mix tonality first, then use the plugs. Had no trouble using them to mix the show. our FOH is running about 107Db and these work great with the "red" filter.

            Great ear plugs

            By Lorena Sikorski

            from Cypress, Ca

            Comments about Vater Earplugs:

I've used these ear plugs for years. They are well made and long lasting. Every time I have to sit in front of the drums, I put them in. They stop enough of the sound so I'm not cringing, but I can still hear my own instrument.

            By Phil hurtado

            from Southern California

            Comments about Vater Earplugs:

I bought these ear plugs hoping to reduce the volume and still be able to hear everyone in the band. I tried changing the red and green filters supplied but had a hard time hearing the vocals so I pulled the filters out completely. They work really well and I can hear everyone just fine.

            Many uses

            By Kyle McNicoll

            from Simi Valley, California

            Comments about Vater Earplugs:

I bought these earplugs a few weeks ago. When I got them, I was not disappointed. The rubber plugs that go into your ears are easy to insert and remove and are very comfortable. The two different filters allow me to change the level of noise reduction, about 19 dB for green and 21 dB for red. I use these all of the time, at concerts, at rehearsals, doing ward work, while people are using treadmills, etc. These work, and for the price, I love them. F.Y.I. I am yet to use them for shooting sports, but I'm gonna talk to some people.

            NEED THESE NOW

            By Casey Ryan

            from Norcross, Ga

            Comments about Vater Earplugs:

I have owned these for several months now. They are PERFECT ear plugs. Very comfortable and they lower the noise level just enough so that my ears aren't hurting. I'm a hard-hitting drummer, and my ears never ring or hurt after practicing with these things after a few hours. It's a little hard to put on and take off the string, but why would you need to do that? I use these for practice and for small live environments with my worship band.

You only get one set of ears

            By craig

            from SC

            Comments about Vater Earplugs:

I have used these every night for about 4 months straight. They work great everytime, and after a couple of weeks or so (depending on how dirty your ears are) you need to wash them. Easy to wash and maintain, just use a mild soap and water and rub em. Nice small carrying case that fits in your pocket, the only thing is getting the plugs themselves on the rubber string they give you. Although once you get them on they aint coming off. Other than that, well worth the money and they protect your ears while letting some noise come through.
