Overview

Vandoren's ZZ reeds feature a unique relationship between the heart of the reed, where the tone is produced, and the thickness of the tip, which is responsible for vibration. The result is a reed with extraordinary tone and immediate response in a free-blowing manner - even in the altissimo range. The ZZ reeds accomplish this immediate response without sacrificing brightness or tone quality. Professional saxophonists like L.A. recording artist Gary Foster, Delmark recording artist Frank Catalano, and many others have made the switch to Vandoren's ZZ reeds for both live performances and studio recordings.

According to a Vandoren reed chart, ZZ reeds feel one-half strength less thick in comparison to Vandoren Traditional reeds, and run even in strength with JAVA reeds. For example, a Vandoren ZZ strength 3 reed would feel equivalent to a Vandoren Traditional in strength 2.5.

      blues sax guy

Comments about Vandoren ZZ Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

I've used many differant reeds over the years but the ZZ reeds, which I've used now for the last four years have been the best for me and what I do which is blues and jazz. The ZZ reed is made for club work, it's a bright, crisp reed, If you do concert work you should use the standard Vandoren.
zz tenor sax reeds best feature is the great responce they give you which helps you with faster articulation.
The ZZ reed is a high quality reed so most out of the box are stage ready.
The ZZ reeds are not cheep but if you always want to play at your best you have to use what gives you the tone and responce that you need to do your best.
