Tonally Devoted To You.....
This amp is the one I was waiting for. I used to drool over similar (looking) tube amps with far more buttons and switches, but this tight package caught my eye, and it never let go of my ear!
I had the pleasure of playing a floor model Pitbull. At first glance, it would intimidate the newbie. Lots of flexibilty to me, can be lots of hassle to someone else. Either way, once your making sound come out of it, you hear that "clank" that you used to get from awesome 70's amps. Then! Oh baby, you get to find that sweet spot for the gain, and that was half the fun.
I found that the relationship between the Gain and Pre-Volume was very smooth, and didn't turn you sour whn you crank this way and that. You always held onto TONE.
Speaking of tone... Your every note stood out like a wild mustang in a field of ponies. I felt very shy about playing, because, even with a searing distortion, every note was audible. I had never heard myself like that before.
Now, when you look at this amp, you honestly don't even consider that there might be a Clean sound in there. After twenty minutes of crunch and wail (those are good things children), I smirked, and started my journey to "Cleanland". It was so sparkling and pristine, that I forgot what I already owned... and I own a lot. All I knew, was this is what I wanted to own, now.
In my tone-bending world, you cannot speak of flexibilty without including a graphic EQ. I have been using pedals to fix the amps response for years. Finally, the killer boutique amps are smartening up! The EQ included in the VHT Pitbull was perfectly inside the guitar range (Didn't make bass honks, and P.A. horn hisses). It was like no EQ I've handled before. I found those special notches for my lead tone, and I left the EQ out for my clean sound. Heaven.
A wonderful amp. The only detourant is the price tag. Most consumers can't come near this. But dear friends, I say to you... Use that credit card once on a Lamborghini, and your Mazda days are gone forever.
