The Apollo APQ-DI from Universal Audio is a professional, high-resolution Quad DSP computer audio interface that delivers the sound, feel, and flow of analog recording. This 18x24 FireWire/Thunderbolt-ready interface combines genuine UA analog design with class-leading 24-bit/192kHz sound quality and onboard Realtime UAD Processing. Using the Apollo interface, you can have the ability to track audio through a range of available classic UAD analog emulation plug-in, from top-end recording companies such as Neve, Studer, Manley, Lexicon and more (sold separately). All of this processing is done in real time, and with a sleek elegant workflow on both Mac and PC environments.

24-bit/192 kHz Sound Quality for Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase & More
Apollo builds upon decades of UA’s analog design heritage as an extremely well-built, high-resolution audio interface, featuring premium mic preamps and top-end converters for low THD and high dynamic range. Its Core Audio and ASIO drivers ensure compatibility with all major DAWs, including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Live, and more. Moreover, Apollo’s included Console application and companion Console Recall plug-in (VST/AU/RTAS) provides control and recall of all interface and UAD plug-in settings within individual DAW sessions, even months and years later.

Realtime UAD Plug-In Processing for Tracking, Mixing and Mastering
Apollo differentiates itself from other interfaces with its Realtime UAD Processing. Available with either DUO Core or QUAD Core processing onboard, this DSP Acceleration allows for recording and mixing through UAD Powered Plug-Ins — with as low as sub-2ms latency — so that you can quickly monitor, audition, and “print” audio using additional classic analog emulations that are available from Ampex, Lexicon, Manley, Neve, Roland, SSL, Studer, and more. In this way, Apollo’s sonic character and tonal options are nearly endless. The onboard UAD processing also frees up host computer CPU for other virtual instrument or mixing duties.

Thunderbolt I/O: The Next Generation of Connectivity
Apollo offers compatibility with Intel’s new Thunderbolt technology, as found on the newest iMacs, MacBook Pros, and MacBook Airs. Available via a user-installable Thunderbolt I/O Option Card (sold separately), Thunderbolt provides lower latency, reduced audio buffer size, improved performance, and greater UAD plug-in instances versus FireWire.

The most pleasant and powerful device I've ever used!!! Your job just got a whole lot easier!!!

The Apollo quite literally has the sound and feel of a analog recording desk. It's a very difficult thing to describe but its just organic sounding. It's just real! We hooked it up at the studio and placed a SE ribbon mic on a acoustic guitar, no plug-ins, on board pre-amps and our mouths just dropped! The depth, clarity and dimension you expect from high quality converters along with what I feel is a warm analog sound. Universal Audio definitely went in the right direction by making it transparent with the ability to color the sound with their analog emulations. Placing the Struder Tape created a heck of a difference and did something very pleasant to the entire stereo image. Very wide sweet sounding. Pres are clean and usable. I imagine they will come out with mic pre emulations in the future. I've used other interfaces from the Apogee and RME line and this stomps them both. Don't get me wrong they make great interfaces but Apogee has a "sparkly" sound of its own, while RME is quite sterile and harsh at times. Both make quality converters and are completely capable of making great sounding recordings. Only thing is that the Apollo sounds more musical and true to me. Do yourself a favor and if you have the cash to invest on one, especially at this price range. Go for it!!! You will not be disappointed. The drivers are rock solid and the Console App is so useful...you'll just love tracking through the plug-ins. A whole lot of fun!

WoW!!! Mind is Blown!!!

This baby is pretty sweet!! I just received it a few days ago and have been playing with it for a couple days. Mixing through it, the A/D, D/A is super clean. Tracking with the UAD plug-ins in real time without latency blows my mind. The plug-ins are clean, punchy, and sound realistic. You can even use the unit by itself without a computer. If you have the scratch to buy this, definitely worth the money!!!
