The 2-LA-2 Twin T4 Leveling Amplifier is a feature-enhanced, stereo evolution of the classic Teletronix® LA-2A. The smooth-as-silk T4 gain reduction that has enhanced the tracks of endless hit-records over the last 40+ years — from early recordings by Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and Waylon Jennings to modern musings by Prince, Ziggy Marley and Joe Satriani — is alive and well and stereo matched inside the 2-LA-2. Though not an exact component clone of its legendary ancestor, the 2-LA-2 elegantly combines two channels of the same silky, tube-amplified, T4 optical gain reduction of the LA-2A into a single unit.
Like its ancestor, the 2-LA-2 works by applying the audio signal to an electro-luminescent light panel which shines on a photo-electric cell which in turn controls the gain. Designed by original UREI® engineer Dennis Fink, the 2-LA-2 retains the core "sonic signature" components that made the LA-2A the studio standard compressor in recording studios around the world.
The 2-LA-2 uses only the finest audiophile quality parts, from metal film resistors and WIMA capacitors to custom UA input and output transformers.
