Don't like it - returned it

About Me Professional Musician

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

I have owned the Atlas rolling boom stand for 20 years. The construction of this stand is actually pretty good (thought the plastic clutch to raise and lower is a little questionable. The main problem with this stand is that the clutch for both angle adjust of the boom and where the boom is centered is one knob. So lets say you have the boom at a 30 degree angle up. As soon as you release the clutch the boom will now slide in the direction of the counterweight unless you hold it all in place (and the counterweight is very heavy - and non-removable). Bad design IMO. The function of holding the boom in place and the tilt adjust needs to be two separate knobs. Basic and essential.

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

This is a solid stand. I bought it to hold a Bluebird Baby Bottle Mic with a SE Electronics Reflexion filter and pop filter ... so, a lot of weight. This stand handles it with no problem at all. It is highly portable due to the wheels (which look like inline skate wheels), yet is also stable (huge, heavy base and the wheels have an excellent locking mechanism.) As an additional bonus, this thing just looks like a "pro" stand. I highly recommend it if you want a very stable stand to put expensive mics on.

Reliable Comfortable to use smart design

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

I tried to purchase a cheap boom... That turned to be an expensive deal...It broke down in the studio in the critical moment while recording...cheap made in Ch@@a ...guitar Center proved to be caring about the customer. When I called customer service jointly with store manager in West LA they understood the value of a repeat customer...matched the on line store price...so I purchased 2 of them. I do have other products by Ultimate... I found this brand really good smart convenient engineering. If you need to record room, or just care about your expensive microphones... jut buy this it serves me well.

    Great stand for the money!

    By Daniel Towey

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

This Ultimate Support's MC-125 is pretty much what I was looking for and was well worth the discounted sale price (at the time). It is sturdy, comfortable to grip and adjust (for the most part) and gives a feeling of confidence when adjustments are made and locked down. I have a feeling it should last a very long time... certainly not like much of the flimsy alternatives being manufactured for the same price range today. Two things I would change or add to this stand to make it that much more professional and reliable: 1- Make the tilt and extension of the boom two adjustments instead of the one combined control for more accurate positioning (The feeling of the clutch is solid... wouldn't make that into a cheaper substitute) 2- Put a locking, threaded nut at bottom of the stand to lock it to the base (like on the traditional Atlas stage stands with round bases). Without this locking nut, the stand untwists from the base as you loosen the main height adjustment clutch to raise or lower the extension.

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

Studio essential! Studio mics tend to be more ragile then live mics-not to mention heavier!. You need to know that your studio stands are up to the challenge of keeping your premium mics from hitting the floor!. Hear's the perfect solution!. Ultimate Support's MC-125 is a very well-balanced and sturdy professional boom with a handy counterweight!. In addition, it's on locking rollerblade-style wheels, so you can easily move it around the studio!. Best of all, the MC-125 is incredibly affordable, so you can invest move in your quality studio mics and less in the stand!.

    Live like the pros

    By Tommy

    from Warren, Michigan

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

I'm a recording engineer and producer and I own my own recording studio. I have many clients that come in and out. I have thousands of dollars in high end microphones that I use to record my clients. I was old school for many years and used a higher end DR boom stand to hold my mics but one day I had a 3 thousand dollar Neuman U87 hit the floor due to the weight. The mic was fine but it scared me to death. These are the stands that the pros use because they are durable, wont tip over, reduce floor noise from entering the mic, and are easy to move around. For any serious studio cat I highly recommend investing the $$ into this product.

    Sturdy and quiet!

    By Paul

    from Rochester, NY

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

The Ultimate MC-125 has a very heavy base that, besides adding stability, eliminates room noise from your recording. Fully extended, I can place a mic above my house(!), and with the counterweight, can place a mic or stereo pair above an ensemble without interfering with the audience. After hearing the difference, I would definitely shell out for a stable stand like this before investing in a $200 shock mount if non-mechanical vibration is an issue.
