I replaced the stock Fender tubes in my Fender Super Champ XD amp with this tube, and I was impressed. I had experimented at first with Ruby power tubes with it. Then I tried some JJ power tubes with the JJ preamp tube. I came back to the Tungsol 12ax7. To my ear I liked the tone better. I had also put an Eminence Rajin Cajun 10" speaker in which blew away the stock Fender speaker. I aslo had much more volume! So for now it's JJ 6v6 matched power tubes, Tungsol 12ax7 Preamp tube, and Eminence Ragin Cajun 10" speaker. I get a great big sound now, and my bandmates love the sound also. I bought a set for my Fender Twin Reverb also.
I have a few of these and im using them in my various amps. These reissue Tung-sol tubes from New sensor are easily, IMHO, one of he 3 best new production preamp tubes being made. For years I have used original U.S.A made Tung sol tubes and these are genuinely close enough that i use them inter-changeably. This has the sound of the american 12AX7: powerful, fully equal output-range of lows mids and highs, and great OD distortion, just slightly looser than Brittish Mullards or German Telefunken. BTW The other 2 excellent new prodcution tubes are the JJ ECC803 long plate, and the Mullard 12AX7 reissue. The Mullard sounds awsome but is a bit fragile, can become microphonic with a lot or rough handling.
I bought an ART DPS II recently and changed the 12ax7 tube out on what I have heard from several people who have owned the unit. I must say I am very pleased with these tubes so far. The Art DPS II came with an Electro-Harmonix tube which I wasnt too crazy about when plugging in for the first time. I was messing around with the settings/gain etc and couldnt find the sweet spot. It sounded a little off. I questioned why I bought the unit in the first place based ion these great reviews. Well I decided to give it another chance and change out the tube and low and behold I was very impressed immediately. I have a Presonus Firestudio Project which the preamps sound a bit harsh in my opinion. I know have 2 extra inputs via spdif and so far I am very happy with tube purchase.
