Overview

The Tung-sol 6V6GT is the preferred OEM tube of the '50s-era Fender Tweed Champ and Deluxe amplifiers. The Tungsol 6V6 has a geometry designed to safely handle the higher voltages used in guitar amps-plus heavier plate and grid materials. The result: better mids and bottom while keeping the smooth top of the classic 6V6 vacuum tubes. The Tung-sol 6V6 breaks up evenly from low E to high up the neck. Blues players will LOVE these tubes for the way they sing!

Soft tubes reach saturation and break-up quicker. These tubes have lower plate current (Ip) and transconductance (Gm) matching numbers. They are preferred by blues guitarists for the break-up and sustain they provide.

Hard tubes have the highest amount of clean headroom before break-up and distortion. These tubes have high plate current (Ip) and transconductance (Gm) matching numbers. They take longer to reach saturation and are preferred by jazz, country, and bass players. Hard tubes are also used by guitarists who rely primarily on effects pedals to generate distortion.

Medium tubes fall in between soft tubes and hard tubes. They exhibit good headroom, but will break up and distort when pushed. These tubes have plate current (Ip) and transconductance (Gm) matching numbers in the middle of the range. Classic rock guitarists and players who play a wide variety of styles generally use medium rated tubes.

The Tunsol 6v6GT power tube is a great product if you like a warm tone tube with out the "insane metal edge". I repace the EH 6v6 that came with my Fender Super Champ, and the difference was impressive. These tubes are quiet and when I turn the (15W) amp up all the way up on the clean channel, I can gently pluck soft and mellow, with clean tube sound, then I can grab a pick and have the cloth ripping crunch only a tube amp. Can put out, the tone in these tubes do not seem to have the ear piercing highs of the EH tubes. Now I can set my treble knob around 5 and not have to turn it down to 2. I also replaced the pre amp tube with a Tungsol. Great tone, but agian, If youre looking for the Heavy Metal razor edge sound, these are NOT for you.....Great for blues and classic rock though!!! BTW I play an Ibanez Archcore as73 w/ d addario EXL115 strings. (also the best strings in my book)and I have a Jensen 10/35 MOD speaker in my Fender Super Champ cab.

Tung-Sol is a great old time tube brand. But the brand name was recently bought by The New Sensor Corp. and the tubes are now made in Russia, and most likely is the same factory as Sovtek tubes. The new Tung-Sols have been getting good reviews, so based on that, I ordered a matched pair for my DRRI. Well, these may sound great, but I wouldn't know, as one went thermal immediately. After inspection, it is quite apparent this is a flawed tube and poorly made. The glass tube is installed crooked into the base !!! For all I know, it has already leaked and there is no longer a vacuum in it. So, I shall wait and see what MF is willing to do about it. And I learned my lesson to always by tubes from a seller who actually tests them before they sell them, because, as I now understand, there are more than a few bad ones made and shipped by tube manufacturers.

Comments about Tung-Sol 6V6GT Matched Power Tubes:

I bought these along with the 12ax7 Tung Sol preamp for my Fender Super Champ x2 head( came with Groove tubes). I play three guitars through the head An Ovation acoustic Electric, on the clean channel. An Epiphone Dot Studio and a Les Paul mostly through Channel 2. The results are outstanding. Each guitar has its own character, however the top end is more pronounced, the Dot and Les Paul now have the "old school" chime without sacrificing the mid and bottom. The Ovation is cleaner but with some low end enhancement. Great Tubes. If you want to bring your Champ, Princeton or Deluxe Reverb to life these are the tubes. The Matched Medium Duet are an exact replacement(no biasing)according to my research.

The Tungsol 6V6 Tubes provide smooth, creamy overdrive.
If you play the Blues, then these are the tubes you need. Period!
As for reliabilty, I finally had one go bad after 2 1/2 years of playing my Fender Super Sonic 22 fully cranked with a 212 speaker cabinet attached. I consider this pretty reliable and the price very reasonable.
The amp is also loaded with Tungsol pre-amp tubes as well.

Comments about Tung-Sol 6V6GT Matched Power Tubes:

My rebel 30 212 came with jj 6v6 tubes.. Although they sound nice, especially clean, they where different sounding. I've read articles about the jj 6v6 tubes sounding like smaller 6l6 and that is fairly accurate. The tung sols are little creamier. Have a better sound on the gain channel. quality wise.. I checked the bias and they where good to go even there. I had actually stopped playing that amp in favor of my tweaker.( I play it through a green back custom built can) I'm back to playing this amp and also I seems to take pedals better now..

I put these in my Ampeg GVT15-112 amp, replacing the JJ 6v6 power tubes. The Tung-Sol tubes provide added clarity and detail, and make the amp more responsive. They compress nicely and sound great driven!

I replaced a couple of cheaper tubes in a Fender Excelsior with these and the result was quite noticeable. Much sweeter tone.

Comments about Tung-Sol 6V6GT Matched Power Tubes:

I put a set of medium deut tung-sol 6V6's in an old 70's Princeton Reverb and am quite happy with the tone. I run a solid state rectifier which helps drive these into a subtle sweet overdrive on heavy attack but stays nice and clean during lower volume playing. If i were still gigging this amp I'd most likely go for the hard duet for more clean headroom, but at bedroom volumes these work fantastic using humbuckers with coil taps. HB for a subtle warm drive , then lower volume a little or tap to single coil for clean brightness.

The Tung Sol reissue 6v6GTs sound amazing in my 5e3 Deluxe clone, better than JJ 6V6, Ruby 6V6 and Groove Tubes' 6V6. Quality seems to vary - my first pair is still going strong 2 years later while another set lasted for 6 months which is still pretty good! The tone is so good that I can't bear to use any other current production tube.

I upgraded all my amps: Fender Super Sonic 22, Fender Excelsior Pro and a Tweed Deluxe. Change the stock GT's to Tungsol and that includes the Tungsol 12AX7's also. I play my amps fully cranked and these tubes cleaned up the mud. It has given me much more defined natural distortion so i can hear each note separately. I do not use pedals but prefer the natural overdriven tone that the amp provides from being fully cranked. I haven't had them long enough to comment on reliability.

I put these in my Egnater Tweaker 15, replacing Groove Tubes 6V6 Mediums which had replaced the stock Ruby Tubes. The new Tungsols sound great with a smooth and clear tone. No harshness or brittleness even when pushed hard. Clean or overdriven, these tubes sound great. Time will tell how long they last, but I'm pretty happy for now!
