Trick Drums Dominator Double Pedal (482387)
Availability:

Precision, adjustability, and high-end technology.

Designed and constructed like the original Pro 1-V, the Trick Dominator brings the same great mechanical design, technology, and build quality to a more affordable model. The Dominator still comes standard with aerospace-quality, high-precision machined parts. Its standard features include Trick's compression spring technology, independent fully adjustable beater and drive cams, Trick's exclusive on-the-fly tension adjustability, and spring-loaded quick-release hoop clamp. The double version comes standard with Trick's patent pending, free floating, zero-backlash drive shaft.

  • Best buy by a mile

As reviewed by JMBKC on 1/15/2010

I've had this pedal now for about 1 yr. I cannot say enough good things about it. I've had ZERO issues. I set the spring tension, foot board height and stroke adjustments and have never looked back. High quality, smooth as silk and FAST. I can't play this pedal as fast as it wants to be played. The beaters alone are perfect for metal and are extremely well made, as is the rest of the pedal. You will not be sorry you bought this. This is the pedal other manufacturers are trying to meet in terms of quality, value and playability. If you are a high speed player, look no further.

  • Too good for words.

As reviewed by JAMES CUMMINGS on 10/1/2012

Coming from another brand of direct-drive pedals, I didn't suffer much of an adjustment period to get used to the pedals, but I did notice instant improvements in my playing. I've played a lot of kick pedals over the years, and these deliver. I found the Axis and Demon drive longboard pedals to be much too light with the Trick Pro-1V pedals to be just a bit too heavy for my tastes. These sit somewhere in between them and I find them to feel perfect. Everything I do with my feet translates directly to the pedal. They're light enough that single-foot triplets are effortless, but just heavy enough that you can really feel every individual stroke. The split cam system is fantastic, and gives you an unlimited amount of adjustability. I'm able to run my footboard towards the lower end of the spectrum with plenty of throw in the beater to keep that impact-power up there, making techniques like heel-toe almost second nature. It's like I think about it and it happens. Physically, the pedals feel heavy and well built. I'm reminded of that scene in Jurassic Park with the night-vision goggles. You pick up any component, and it just FEELS like quality. The greatest thing about these pedals is the GENIUS of the compression spring system, which not only makes it super easy to adjust the tension on the fly, but also helps catch the beater after every stroke. Because of this, I can hit 16th notes at 180-200BPM for extended periods of time without feeling winded or fatigued. It's absolutely incredible.

  • Killer Pedal!

As reviewed by Brad on 7/13/2009

The Dominator is built like a tank but is super fast and light. I wanted two things in a pedal: direct drive linkage, and longboard configuration. So that basically gave me the option of Axis or Trick. The compression spring on the Trick is just a bonus. The fact that it only comes as a longboard is great as well, as it gives you much more leverage and the ability to manipulate the pedal differently from a shortboard using part of, or the entire foot. I have the double pedal version and it's very smooth and balanced. The beater stroke, footboard height and spring tension adjustments are so easy I wondered why no one else's thought of doing it this way. It's the only pedal that I'm aware of that you can tweak all the settings without getting off your throne. Some pedals have too many adjustments for me but this is just enough to really tailor the feel to anyone's style. I was curious how the compression spring would compare to a traditional extension spring and it's much more precise and has a broader tension spectrum than regular springs. No pedal allows you to vary the spring tension as greatly or as quickly and easily as the Dominator. I've had Axis, DW, Tama, etc. pedals and double pedals and this is by far my favorite. Because of the aluminum construction, direct drive linkage, and longboard configuration this most closely compares to the Axis. In my experience with Axis they seem to fall apart after a while and are tough to maintain. The Dominator is basically similar to the Axis in feel and speed but with the added bonus of tank-like construction and a genius spring design. It also doesn't hurt that it's one of the coolest looking pedals I've ever seen with it's black brushed aluminum parts and stainless steel beaters. The only things to note are that the beaters will kill your bass head if you don't play with some kind of patch, and that the rails that extend to the pedal hinge could be a minor annoyance if you play barefoot. I've played barefoot a couple times on it and it's noticeable but didn't bother me at all. Overall this is a truly innovative piece of gear and is of the highest quality. For all the death metal speed demons out there: If you're looking for some Axis pedals I highly recommend trying these out first.
