I purchased the Traveler Speedster to accompany me on frequent business trips in the United States, Europe, and Asia. I had previously used travel acoustics, including the Washburn Rover and Martin Backpacker, but never really found them comfortable to play or pleasing to hear. The Speedster is a completely different animal. It?s very comfortable to play and sounds great. As an added bonus, it?s very small and can actually fit inside my suitcase. The Speedster?s dual rail humbucker greatly exceeded my expectations. I was already shopping for possible replacements before my guitar arrived, but I quickly discover the stock pup met all my needs. The wide sweep of the tone control allows it to go from a bright, clear high to a darker, crunchier tone that sounds great with higher amp gain. The fit and finish of the guitar were much better than expected. The fretwork is excellent. There are no sharp ends at all. All guitars should be finished this well. I found no defects in the finish. I chose the candy apple red and it turned out to be a deep crimson metallic red that looks great. The set-up from the factory was great, but just a little too low for me. With a quick adjustment to the bridge, I was all set. Additional features of the guitar include a volume control, a tone knob, adjustable roller bridge, recessed tuning machines, gig bag, and a detachable tear drop armrest. The volume control works as expected. The tone control has a wide sweep that makes it very useful for this one pick-up guitar. The roller bridge is adjustable every which way and appears to be a great design. The tuners have held tune great even with my many bends. The detachable armrest makes the guitar very comfortable to play standing or sitting. With the contoured bottom and the tear drop in place, there?s really no adjustment or re-learning needed to play. Everything feels natural. The neck is a bit thick, but is comfortable. It?s more like an LP than a strat. The guitar feels reliable and sturdy, even with it?s relatively light weight. The only improvement I would recommend is a rubber washer beneath the tear drop attachment screw. A tight screw is needed to keep the tear drop from working loose, but the screw could damage the finish there if you crank down on it too hard. I cut a small washer from my kids thin craft foam sheet and it?s working great. The guitar?s playability is outstanding. I?ve coupled it with a Zoom 9003 and a decent pair of lightweight headphones and it sounds fantastic. I can move about freely and rock out in hotels and airports everywhere with no one complaining about the noise. It?s so small and comfortable that I?ve even been playing it around the house more often than my strat and LP! After three tries, I have no doubt that I?ve found my last travel guitar. I wish I had found the Traveler Speedster three years ago.

Maybe it was just mine, but my Speedster would NOT stay in tune. Any sort of string bend or heavy handed playing on my part cause the string to store some tension "around the bend", on the backside of the guitar near the tuners. This resulted in a very frustrating experience as a player, because I was constantly having to pull on the strings to equalize the tension. It got old very quickly.

There's a lot to like about the size of this little guitar, beginning with the fact that it IS tiny. And a lot of the other known quirks, like the difficulty changing strings, can be overcome with by replacing the stock tuners with locking tuners, changing out the stock pickup to something more...interesting, and maybe adding series/parallel/coil tap switch, all of which I did. However, as much as I wanted to appreciate this guitar for its size, i just couldn't get past the tuning issues, which were significant and which ultimately caused me to seek out a different travel guitar.

Bottom line: this is a clever design that gets a lot right, and its compact size is impossible to beat without sacrificing scale length, but its inability to stay in tune during play was a deal breaker for me. I wish it were otherwise.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Speedster Travel Electric Guitar:

A little bright for my taste but nothing that can't be adjusted out with the tone knob. It has a different balance point and feel than a full size guitar but that is to be expected. Overall I enjoy playing this much more than other travel guitars I've tried and believe it is worth every cent for someone who travels frequently. I personally would not gig with it though.

      Great practice or traveling guitar

Comments about Traveler Guitar Speedster Travel Electric Guitar:

I'm pretty much gonna echo a lot of the other positive posts/reviews. The intonation could use some tweaking, and the action towards the nut is a bit high. minor stuff. i like the tone. honestly i'd probably play this live without hesitation if needed. brad eakins at my guitar center (mishawaka) was great to work with. gave me a discount for black friday before the actual date. lastly, the case is well thought out. a small pouch (like a 5 inch square) for extra strings, winder, etc. i use an ipad when i play live (amplink+ from peavey) and i love the pouch that fits my ipad perfectly plus room for a few cords and cables. I think the whole package is a great value.

started back jamming with the band since my accident and was having a hard time playing and balancing myself in my wheelchair as a regualar length guitar would throw me off balance, was searching on here and found this and a wireless setup(pain running over cable) and was I surprised, this thing feels great, sounds great and looks great. Couldn't be happier with this buy,I would have been happy to just have something that I could comfortably play but this thing surpassed all expectations. I would highly recommend this unit.

I picked up a Speedster as I am traveling more and didn't want to lose practice time.

This guitar will fit into the overhead bin of an airplane, but is too long to fit under your seat. Mine has come through four flights without a scratch.

The tone is pretty good - I pair it with a Vox Amplug and phones. The neck is quite playable with a comfortable feel. The tuners are built into the body and take some getting used to.

Overall, the Speedster is a worthy addition to my collection serves its intended use quite well.

This little guy is awesome! I slapped some .14 - .68 strings on there for a challenging practice. Now I can practice everywhere - on the bus, at school, on my break at work, I feel like my time is never wasted now. It looks, feels and even sounds good. Best impulse buy I've ever made.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Speedster Travel Electric Guitar:

I had been shopping for a travel-worthy guitar after seeing my $$$ strat case take beating after beating, even in the airlines' Fragile luggage service. (I think that they give the fragile cases an extra toss just for fun.:-))

The guitar is compact, and you don't even get a blink from the people at airport security, as you nonchalantly drop the tennis-racket shaped soft case onto the belt. The Traveler has a great sound, and really nice touch and response. Sustain is quite good, as well, considering the small amount of solid body the guitar has to work with.

I use a Boss 4-track Micro-BR to practice with when I travel. I just got an iRig, and it seems to work just great with that, too.

I've used this guitar in Open Mic events around the world, and it's a blast to see people's eyes and watch them mouth "WTFrick is that?" It's a great guitar for gigs, too, when you want to whip out a slide and do your best Robert Johnson.

All in all, a great practice / gigging guitar. I highly recommend it for any who travel or who want something a little different.

Caveats: You will need to clip the strings close to the tuning pegs, otherwise you will get poked.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Speedster Travel Electric Guitar:

I have owned about a dozen guitars over the years and at first I was a bit taken aback by the high price of this 'travel' guitar. Well, you get what you pay for!

Out of all the guitars I have owned this is the first one I received where I was unable to detect any flaws and found it to be perfectly setup and intonated on arrival. I personally found the detachable armrest piece unnecessary once I got used to not having an anchor point for my hand/arm.

The action was perfect! Nice and low with no fret buzz anywhere along the neck unless I just simply fretted way too far back. Surprised that with such low action I had less issue with buzz on this guitar than on my higher action guitars.

A beautifully painted solid piece of wood (neck and body are 1 piece). The pickup puts out excellent tone and I love the style and feel of the control knobs.

I have only 2 minor gripes, and in the grand scheme of the overall quality of this instrument, these really are minor. First one is that when you play without the optional armrest the rear strap pin is a bolt that sticks out way too far and loosens easily. It's not a big issue but I wish an extra strap pin that matches the one on the front and could be swapped out had been included. The second issue is I wish the hanging strap were detachable. It is connected to the guitar by what appears to be an industrial strength zip tie. I love hanging the guitar from a robe hook I picked up at Home Depot, but wish I was able to remove the strap for when I really want to show of the great look of this guitar.

Overall, 5 stars, perfect travel guitar.... lol, forget that... this is my MAIN guitar now!

Comments about Traveler Guitar Speedster Travel Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because I wanted to have something to play while on travel with work. I keep it in my car and now play every day for 30 minutes at lunch time. It is perfect. I actually like playing it without a headphone amp because it actually has a nice tone to it in a very quiet setting. A great practice tool. The portability is a dream to travel with. The pickup is OK for what it is, you certainly pull off a small gig in a pinch with this guitar. My main axe is a PRS 513, so that is my reference point. It has a nicer neck and action than my Standard USA Stratocaster - true! Use this guitar to play during travel, family visits out of town, during breaks at work, whatever - it is just convenient to use any time with no hassle. I use it to learn songs with a headphone guitar trainer and it saves me a lot of time. I bought it used for a bit off the price but in hindsight clearly worth the price of entry. There is nothing I would change about this guitar, it is indeed a perfect travel electric guitar.
