A Pandora that works for guitar AND bass!
The Toneworks Pandora PX4D Personal Multi-Effect Processor combines vintage amp models, a wide range of cabinet models, plus a combination of classic and unique effects for great guitar or bass sound whether practicing, recording, or even playing live. The processor's 158 effects deliver fantastic tones, including 25 amp types from high-end tube amps to rare vintage amps and everything in-between. Each of the 23 cabinet effects that reproduce the acoustic and structural resonances of a speaker cabinet were newly created especially for the PX4D. The creative possibilities are practically limitless. For example you can combine a guitar amp with a bass cabinet.
The PDX4 delivers a versatile range of tones with numerous realistic modeling effects in addition to standards such as compressor and wah. Pickup modeling transforms the sound of a single-coil pickup into that of a humbucking pickup (or vice versa), a guitar (bass) synth that lets you play synth sounds, an intelligent pitch shifter that automatically harmonizes with your playing, a talk effect that produces the impression that your guitar is speaking, a slow attack effect that creates violin-type swells, a feedback effect that allows feedback playing techniques that are normally possible only at high volumes, a rotary speaker that changes speed in response to your picking or fingering dynamics, a fretless bass effect that simulates the distinctive sound of a fretless bass, and many more are all at your fingertips, ready to spur your creativity.
The PX4D Multi-Effect has 200 programs, including 100 preset programs and 100 user programs.
Like other Pandoras, the PX4D offers an intuitive, knob-based interface and backlit LCD display. The TAP button can be used to set delay times or a rhythm pattern tempo.
A sophisticated phrase trainer can record up to 30 seconds from an external audio source for looped playback, which can then be slowed down without affecting the pitch. While in Phrase Trainer mode, users can record any of the 100 PCM-based, built-in rhythm and bass patterns and their instrument simultaneously, then practice soloing over the recorded phrase. The AUX IN jack lets users play along with external audio sources, and a key transpose function can shift the key of the external audio for versatile rehearsal. An auto chromatic tuner with a mute function is also included.
The Toneworks PX4D can be powered by 4 AAA batteries for up to 10 hours of continuous use, or by an optional AC adapter.

If you only buy one effects tool for your guitar..
(Note, I own the Pandora PX4, which to my knowledge is the same, just lacks the bass patches and only has 50/50 patches instead of 100/100.)
OK. Any serious electric guitar/bass player needs to go buy one of these. Right now. For the price, the variety of sounds it can produce are INCREDIBLE. I can loose hours just playing around seeing what kind of crazy sounds I can get out of this thing. As a practise tool, you just aren't going to get a better product. I absolutely love the Pandora! I am seriously considering buying a second one I love it so much! I've shown it to some guitar playing buddies, and they were blown away as well with how much fun this little box is!
Something packed with this many features is bound to have a couple of flaws, and the Pandora is no exception.
While I've had no problems with it in the year I've owned it, it has a slightly cheap, plastic feel to it. I take care of it and don't beat it around, but I have a feeling that someone who is hard on their gear may end up breaking some of its delicate little knobs and buttons.
Cycling through the hundred sounds this thing packs can be a bit of a pain, especially when you can't remember where to find a specific sound you want to play with.
Finally, as a practice or play tool, it is great, but as a performance tool I would be leary. Many of the effects produce a noticeable hiss in the background. If you need a multi-effects system for performance, you are probably better off with a pedal board from Line 6 or similar. Then again, those cost twice as much as this...
Finally, as a PX4 owner, I must admit to raising my eyebrows at the PX4D's addition of bass patches. As a guitar player, why would I want that on my PX4? (Same goes for a bass player and the electric patches...) It just means more flipping through patches I don't use to get to the one I want.
Beyond those small complaints, I love playing with the Pandora unconditionally! Stop sitting on the fence and buy one! Of all my guitar effects toys, this is by far my favorite!

Worth Every Cent
I am a home guitar player and I am pretty choosy about my sound, but I passed up some good deals from guitar center on some major name combo amps when I found this little magic box. I am impressed with the versatility of the PX4D and the sound quality is fantastic. even with the presets, you can make adjustments and with good headphones it is the best practice amp because I can play at night and not wake the neighbors But wait until Morning !!!!! )
The versatility was the main selling point for me. I can play along with cd's and mp3's or use it in my effects chain with an amp and it would replace all the pedals I would need to get a good sound. The only bad thing is headphones and an AC adapter are not included, but it is still a great deal.

Small but great.
I've had this bad boy for almost 6 months so i feel i've messed with it enough to give a good review. First of all the distortions are pretty muddy and there is alot of noise in the background, which the noise gate doesn't really help. All of the effects work the way they should and there are some very unique ones, like the ramdon filter, and it features some great reverbs. The looper is ok but if you record for too long it starts to sound tinny and the volume gets decreased. for the price and size plus the fact that it is so portable make this a great buy. Check out the M-Audio black box to which is kind of the same thing, some people i talk to say it is better but i really don't think so, just food for thought.

Pedalboard in the pocket
I own PX4B - the same device, but for bass only. It is incredible. At first I tried it in store and spent about 3 hours playing on it because I cannot stop. This piece of technology is incredibly small and lightweight. One set (4) of batteries works for about 10 hours.
Almost all stock presets are great and doesn't require any tweaking. Drum machine patches covers all required patterns for practice. Jam feature allows you to jam with yourself for hours (like I do), bass canceling is also useful and allow you to play along with your favorite bands.
I've found this device a bit noisy on some presets, but after some tweaking I'm able to get noiseless sound good for recording.
On the rehearsal I've found that presets require some modifications to play through amp. Didn't play through PA yet.
Resume: this is ultimate training machine and excelent gear to play through PC. Worth every penny.

Great Personal Effects Processor
I am a hobbyist when it comes to my guitar work and as such I do most of my recording and effects processing using my personal computer. I used to pipe my guitar through a Pocket RockIt headphone amp directly into my laptop. After my Pocket RockIt developed problems, I looked for a new mini amp/effects processor. After considering many solutions (including the Pocket RockIt V2, the Dunlop Rockman Guitar Ace, the Dean Stack in the Box, and the M-Audio Black Box) I got the ToneWorks Pandora PX4D. This little box delivers a lot of features for it's size and price tag. I found my Ibanez RG470L producing sounds I never thought capable. Coupled with a Belkin TuneTalk recorder and my iPod, I now have a completely portable recording solution for my guitar work--I highly recommend this product.
