You're better off cleaning each string individually. This product does not clean as good as a normal clean cloth. The quality is not good too, it's just a cheap plastic with some fiber in it that won't last a month. Each time you use it, the frets hit the bottom of the product and leaves plastic on your fretboard. The only + that I can give to this is that its small. Just go for the old fashioned way, each string individual with a cloth.
I have been a user of a typical microfiber cloth for a year now to clean my strings. So for some reason I was expecting this to be something amazing and completely different from it. And that honestly isn't true! So this isn't at all what I was expecting it to be. Just like with a regular microfiber cloth it slides on your strings and takes away the grime and grit. And I've never had a problem with cleaning around my whole string like this product eliminates... But it does get the job done and it gets it done quickly. To work it you simply slide it under the strings and clamp the top down. It has a snap in place thing that allows it to not come undone while you're cleaning. You then slide it up and down the fret board as many times as you wish. Obviously new strings wont need much wiping while old string will need a lot! But it's a quick process that takes little effort to accomplish. Now I do have 2 concerns with the product. I play a 7 string guitar and I have to watch how the strings are aligned in the cleaner because the high E string will tend to get under the cloth and get glue on it. But to eliminate that problem I just take my time setting it up so it doesn't put clue on my strings. And the other concern is that it is scrapping across the frets as you use it. I wonder if prolonged use can cause it to damage the frets. But from my months use it has had none. I would recommend this to almost any player. If you are an 8 string player I would look into the bass version and see if it's any different. For anyone else this thing cleans your strings and makes them last longer and retain the brilliant feel they have when they are first put on.
I use this everytime get done playing. It is quick & easy & keeps my strings looking & feeling new. I do agree with the other review that says the E Strings can come out from under the cloth section but I've never experienced getting a tacky glue on the string. It is also a concern of mine that the plastic holder slides acrossed the frets & pickups but I have been using this for over a year on all of my guitars & have not noticed any scratches. I guess just like with anything else, you have to be careful. Overall I love it & use it daily.
This product is terrible! It actually does more harm than good. First, it's hard to get open, especially once it's on the strings. Second, it scratches the fretboard, pickups, etc. Third, the high e has a tendency to slip under the microfiber and gets gunked up with glue. Last, but not least, it leaves a sort of tacky residue on the strings. It's a little bit more work to just use the cleaning patches and do each individual string. In most cases, quick & easy just isn't the way to go!
I never thought strings would get dirty and corroded so quickly! But now my strings seem to last 3 times longer. This is my favorite string cleaner because it's small enough to fit in my guitar case. I take it to band practice and it's amazing how well it works. It takes a few seconds to do its job and you can literately see all the grease and corrosion come off after running it through the strings a couple of times. Another great thing about it is that you can simply wash the cloths with a drop of water and soap. It's just great!
You would really be better off individually just wiping down your strings with any good ole rag. I didn't even notice a change in the amount of grit on my strings before and after using this product. Bad buy ...
It works. It works well. Everyone should get this. It is incredibly effective at cleaning strings without requiring strange chemicals or solutions to assist it. I fully recommend it.
This tool has made it extremely fast to clean my strings before I play my guitar. It seriously only takes a few seconds and your strings are clean with no worries on looking for build up that's hiding on the back of strings. The tool is so simple you'll wonder why it hasn't been on the market for much longer. A must have for your guitar tool box.
