Comments about Toca Street Series Djembe:

As a novice, I was very excited to start learning and playing the Djembe. I randomly play along with a variety of songs and watch Youtube videos to learn the different sounds.

Comments about Toca Street Series Djembe:

The drum head was smaller than expected for a large (height was as described). I realize there is variance and each one will be different but drum head I got was 10.25 (widest) instead of 11.5-12.5". Love the sound though so I ordered and extra large

Comments about Toca Street Series Djembe:

I just got my back medium Toca Street Series djembe and I'd have given it a 5 star if it wasn't for the measurements being wrong. I understand this is a hand-made product, but it said approximately 10 inch head when mine was an 8 inch head...way smaller than what was sold as. I'm not going to play around and return it, though.

Overall, it's a sturdy built djembe, beautiful coloration and after tuning it (search on Youtube for "how to tune a rope tuned djembe") it does sound great. I can play this as a djembe and a quick darbuka as well. Nice bass and slap sounds.

If I had a chance, I'd probably buy another...just due to the hand-made nature of the product.

Great little djembe - with a strap is light enough to dance with it! I also have a medium one.

Comments about Toca Street Series Djembe:

I'll be honest here guys, I'm not a percussionist of any kind. I picked this drum up on a super-mega-discount deal for the extra-large in black. I figured if I didn't like it, I could at least make my money back on selling it.

That said, totally no regrets. I dig that it is made of real mahogany and comes with a little tag certifying it as farm-grown rainforest friendly wood. The black sand finish is neat and seems pretty durable, and I like the silvery decorations. It seemed to be in-tune straight out of the box, and came with a little booklet with some pointers on hand drumming and instrument care.

As for sound, I've heard plenty of those cheap drums you get at stuff like ren faires and the like, and they sound nothing like this. It has this awesome, round, deep bass when elevated and makes a sharp thump & ring when flat on the floor. Really great reverb and tone range playing across different areas of the head.

Frankly it's a ton of fun just to sit and bop around with. I'd totally join a drum circle with this thing if my skills were any higher than shameful. Most fun I've ever had on a drum, minus going all Animal from the Muppets that one time on my friend's drum kit. I'm not allowed to play his drums any more. Definitely keeping it around. A final note on price; paying full price, knowing what I know now about it, wouldn't have bothered me at all. I almost feel guilty getting it so cheap.

Comments about Toca Street Series Djembe:

My son has become a very proficent drummer and has been wanting to branch out into ethnic percussion. I was able to purchase the Street Series djembe by Toca on sale at a very reasonable price. It appears to be very well-made and durable.

                Pretty Great Drum, High Quality

                By Victoria Tielebein

                from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Toca Street Series Djembe:

The drum is really high quality and has a nice sound. I ordered the medium size one, and it was way bigger than I expected, but it was also more high pitched than I expected. That's not a problem for me, and it still has a nice sound, so I am very satisfied overall. Drum seems to be well-built, and is worth the cost, although I will have to say that Guitar Center has the lowest prices on Toca drums I found while shopping.

Comments about Toca Street Series Djembe:

I just opened up the box and started playing this drum and at first I was upset because it wasn't as big as I had expected. But the second I played it I fell in love with the thing. This thing surely packs a punch! The is one of the better things you can invest in. For the money, this drum was by no doubt a sweet deal! Thanks!
