The Toca Pro African Djembe takes its carved shape from a single resonant block of environmentally friendly plantation grown mahogany. Mahogany is a historically valued tone wood, while the one-piece Djembe construction is a rarely invoked means of ensuring unimpeded resonance.
Lathe turned for uniform thickness, the Toca Pro African Djembe is sealed and protected from climate and humidity shifts with 20 coats of hand applied teak oil to each kiln-dried single-piece drum shell. The sealing coats protect outer folkloric graphics and inner roughened-carved carvings, the latter serving to diffuse and reduce aberrant overtones that might disturb the Djembe's essential warm highs and robust lows.
The djembe drumhead is chosen from a special selection of fine goatskin, the optimum Djembe head in terms of response, dynamic sensitivity and frequency range. Heads are tuned via a web of low-stretch specially configured Alpine rope runners, now increased in number, with braided cores for extra strength. Extra top sealers and tuning-base rings provide stable, well-anchored tuning free of slippage problems.
The Toca Pro African Carved Djembe is made with quality in mind, without compromises in hand labor or mass production methods, or diminution of materials.

Comments about Toca Pro African Djembe:
Wow!! Is all I can say. I have over 30 Djembes some wood Toca and PVC Toca but this new Pro African style from Toca has beat every african drum I have. Over 15 of them. It has the extra rope runners for finer tunning and with the three top ring system makes the tuning even better. I noticed it is hand carved inside the shell witch makes for better tonal range. I would recomend this drum up against any high end Arfica drum on the market
