This Toca Professional Cuica has a lightweight aluminum shell, black powder-coated hardware, a natural goatskin head, shoulder strap and a wrench for tuning. Rubbing the stick embedded in the head produces the squeaking hi-pitched sound characteristically heard in Brazilian percussion.

This cuica sounds more like the cuica's I hear in the music I've listened to. Think Bob Marley's 'Could you be Loved'. I listen to a lot of Brazilian Bosa Nova, Samba, and Tropicalia. I own a 6" aluminum Meinl and a 8" fiberglass Meinl which are awesome, but this one has the dry crsip sound that I was longing for. Too bad it's the last one I bought. I could have saved a lot of money. They're all great though. And people totally freak out when they hear it. Most people never gave it any thought. I'm not a musician but I've always loved percussion and couldn't play it in 4th grade because my last name started with N and when they got to me, they already had enough drummers so I had to pick trumpet. Pretty unfair and my life may have been different if that didn't happen. My orchestra teacher failed to tell me about Miles Davis and only focused on.....well... orchestra. Bummer.40 years later :(
