  • The real deal in jazz tone

As reviewed by JESSE PEARSON on 3/8/2014

I have a used Ibanez Artco Archtop that was maybe $550.00 new, these strings make it sound like a Gibson ES-175 when going through my Henriksen Jazzamp 110. They also last for years which makes them the most inexpensive guitar strings I have ever purchased in the long run. I'm a tone junkie and these strings sound give me that Kenny Burrell jazz sound. Thick, warm and rich. I find that having a light picking tec. and letting the amp make up the difference gives great tone and dynamics.

  • BEST - Thomastik GB114 George Benson Custom Heavy Flatwound Jazz Strings

As reviewed by KEN on 11/13/2014

These Thomastik GB114 George Benson Custom Heavy Flatwounds are just simply FAB! My first set was on my custom overhauled MIK Epiphone Casino with a Bigsby and roller bridge, then next on another custom Casino with a Byrdland tailpiece, both with underwound Wolftone P90's, and they just brought the guitar sound and feel to a whole new level. I also now use them on my ES-353 (like a 355 but with P90's) and Epiphone Emperor Regent and Broadways as well. It the right metal and wind to give a warm and smooth balanced tone, especially since they run from .014 to .055 and not thicker on the top-end which in other strings gives too much bottom-end. What is really even better is the response to both finger-tone and picking-tone, and sensitivity-response to soft tone style and harder staccato. Just magical... it's like having a studio in your fingers. They're now my string of choice.
