The Telefunken M 80 microphone is a durable and versatile dynamic mic. Its directional pickup pattern and wide frequency response yield a blend of functionality, isolation, and-most importantly-tone. It is sonically open, requiring little or no EQing to get it to fit into the mix. Minimal proximity effect gives it a smooth, balanced tone that is not too boomy or big.

The M 80 mic combines a low-mass voice coil with a super-thin Mylar membrane and a high-quality step-up output transformer from AMI/TAB-Funkenwerk. Its extremely rugged design allows it to withstand serious abuse, and its black rubberized finish, recessed Telefunken badge, and chromed-head grille give it a classic Telefunken look.

In use, the Telefunken M 80 microphone exhibits superior feedback rejection in a live environment. On vocals, it's clear and controlled, capturing the nuances of a performance with great detail while keeping sibilance and handling noise to a minimum. On drums, the Telefunken M 80 is tight, punchy, and open, with emphasis on the initial attack. Guitars bloom with richness and clarity, and percussion cuts with ease.

Definitely one of 'the best bang for buck' mics

By nirantara dasa

from torrance, ca

i do a lot of singing/speaking in my temple and in small outside venues. this mic is one of the best in my locker. i have two Shures (SM 58)+(SM57), two Heils (PR40 + Heritage), 2 Sennheisers and a host of others that i may use from time to time. This TelfunkenM80 is now my 'go-to'. It has power and presence and tone. My SM57 also has the TabFunkenwerk mod, so i can judge side by side, but the M80 wins out. i was considering getting the Neumann KS105 top of the line hand-held, but that one costs almost three times this one, so i went with it. i have not used it in my home recording studio, but with my live performance it is stellar. it looks cool, has the famous name, but the real thing is it delivers the sound.

best vocal mic ever

By Jeff Fischer

from Tulsa, Oklahoma

i have used sm 57 and sm 58s for several years, plus other assorted sennheiser, akg, and audix. this mic is amazing compared to all of them. the clarity and smoothness is like no other.there is minimal eq necessary and minimal feedback also. the price is very much worth the product and then some.I am a sound guy and have had several people purchase these for themselves after using them. the only way i can explain is for you to buy one and hear it. its the closest mic i have found that reproduces the voice singing into it. awesome.

The Best!

By Eric Milot

from Bellingham Ma

What a great sounding Mic! Very clear and articulate. The Highs are smooth and crisp nice full tone with all the lows in tact. I keep everything flat and it works great. Very minimal proximity effect when you back away from the mic while hitting a note it just lower the volume and a slight bit of bass. It is a cardoid pick up pattern and does pick-up some monitor and crowd noise when recording our shows but it hasn't been a feedback issue. I own samson q8's that are hypercardoid pattern and those work great if you are right on them! M80 is a great mic and I can't wait to try it on other instruments when we start to record! Great mic don't hesitate to buy it!

Worth every penny

By Cosmo Jones

We have these mics in our rehearsal and recording studios, and we use them for rentals as well. They stand up to abuse, they look and feel so much better than the average mic, and most importantly, the clarity and feedback control is aces. Our customers have been really happy, and my personal experience with them has been amazing. We record our rehearsals and going back and listening to an old rehearsal vs a new one is night and day. The vocals cut through more and sound richer. Our singer is great, but she doesn't project, so she needs a mic we can turn up and not get killed by feedback. This mic is worth the extra dough over your typical Shure or AT. We have had good luck using it for other things as well, recording acoustic guitars or even as a snare mic. But, if you are looking for something specifically for snare, try the M81. It's a little less bright and can handle the snap of the snare a little better than the M80. But for live vocals, M80 all the way!
