I love the VT Bass, I also own the original sansamp bass DI, both are great, but if you want more of a mic'd cabinet sound while recording, the VT Bass is a better option. The simulations of the Ampeg line really do sound great!
I bought this pedal on the recommendation of other bassists at talkbass.com. I play Ibanez ATK basses through a Markbass LMII head into Peavey Tour series 210 and 410's. I had plenty of whallop before, but this pedal made my sound go from "Boom!" to "BOOM!". I use it for it's SVT-ish sound, but there are other options as well. Solid construction and easy to understand controls. Two things I do not like however, the 9V adapter plug connects to the side rather than the top as most other pedals do. It can get a little tight in there when using this in a signal chain as I do. The other thing is the silent footswitch. I like to hear the "click" when activating and deactivating. These two things are just personal preference. They don't present a problem with the pedal. If this pedal was lost, stolen, broken or abducted by aliens, I would definitely replace it. Get one.
If you know Tech 21, then you know they make a good product. The original bass DI is a great piece, but the VT Bass kills the DI in a live-on-stage battle. I run an Eden WT-800 and an Ampeg 8x10, with the VT Bass, my Fender's sounds like i'm back in the 70s. A must buy if you've got the room on your board or the money!
i was in germany this summer for headbangers open air fest and evan sheely who owns bass NW i seattle an old pal of mine was there with q5 floyd roses' old band.. his bass sound was amazing so i asked him how he got that sound from the amp provided.. he said its this pedal! and showed it to me.. i came home ordered the pedal.. took it to rehearsal and the band loved me even more.. it makes it fat... and growly and doesnt thin out your sound at all i have a snas amp rbi but im not fond of teh drive in THAt unit but this one has a really great tone,,,,
best sounding pedal I ahve ever used. It makes my old strings sound new. It adds tone that really give my bass definition and cuts thru the mix.
I bought this pedal a while back and all I have to say is WOW! If your not getting the tone you want out of your bass this pedal is for you! This thing will shape your tone BIG TIME!!!!!
I purchased this based on the SansAmp reputation and love it. Once I dialed in a sound and tweeked things through my GK head, i am able to cover all sounds. This is important as playing in a cover band you encounter all types of bass sounds. Can't wait to purchase the Deluxe to use with both of my basses and have the sounds preset
