Simply the best piece of equipment a bass player can buy. It will transform your sound more than you can imagine. This little box makes everything sound better, your amp, your bass, your recording. It puts all other processors to shame no matter what they cost. It's built so well it's bullet proof. If you are considering anything else consider this, run to Guitar Center, and please try this first, no exaggeration, it's that good.

Definitely makes your amp or bass sound better but its not the same feel as a tube rig. The direct line-in is pretty awesome for recording and running thru a PA. It doesn't work for all setups (pickups/amps). I fried this pedal but luckily it was under warranty. Kinda costs more than most pedals. I knocked it cuz it broke in less than 6 months and it did sound like it took away on some amps(usually 4 band eq rigs). But again it redeemed itself for me for laying down bass tracks by going direct. All in all its still is worthy of being in the gear collection!

Useful unit, but it is so noisy. Ground noise, I thought first, but none of my Source Audio pedals do this. I might need to return it.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI:

I bought this unit because I recently began playing on our church's worship team, and we use in-ear monitors with a direct box. I've always used an amp, and I have a sound I enjoy hearing from my equipment. My amp for small gigs is my GK MB200, and my set-up for large gigs is my Eden WT-550 along with a Behringer NU3000DSP. Speakers I use individually or in combinations: Carvin RL210T, Trace Elliott 15", Seismic Audio 2x15, personal 2-ft3 cab I built with a Faital Pro 12PR300A woofer (which I HIGHLY recommend btw), and a personal 8-ft3 ported cabinet I built tuned to 30 Hz with a Selenium 18SW800 woofer. I use the latter cab with my Behringer for an AWESOME bottom octave fill. BTW the Seismic Audio 2x15 is pretty good despite it's cheap price...but I digress!

My point is to let people know that I usually play with pretty good equipment to get "the sound" that I want. When I first played at my new church, I was adjusting to in-ear monitors and not hearing/feeling my bass like I wanted and was used to. I spent MANY hours on forums and reading reviews to see where I needed to start. Though the SansAmp may not be everyone's favorite, almost everyone seems to agree every bass player should have one. Well, I want to add my 2-cents worth to echo that sentiment!

I spent some time with the SansAmp on my rig at home and through my personal sound system to "dial in" a sound that I liked. When I say I liked it, I mean I REALLY liked it! Besides the bass, mid, and treble settings, the Presence and Drive are AWESOME to help you get what you want. What I learned quickly is that a little adjustment goes a long way. I've attached a picture of my most used setting. I now love the sound I get in my ears and through the sound system at our church. I can't say I don't miss the "feel" from my personal system, but the SansAmp has been a life...uum, or ear...saver! When playing large gigs, I've discovered I prefer to include the SansAmp along with my Eden. Thank you, Tech 21!!!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI:

I have a Fender P-bass that I really love. A few weeks ago I went to GC and played an Ibanez SR500 with active pickups. I was so blown away with the sound I wanted to buy it then and there. The sales guy recommended that I try the Sansamp Bass Driver. I was blown away by how good it made my bass sound. I bought and have used it for liver performances. It is like having a new active bass.

The secret to making your bass sound amazing, without pushing tubes or clipping SS amps

        By ROBERT

        from Michigan

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI:

I own 2 of these units, the RBI Rack model and the pedal, this is the best investment for any bass player, This pedal brings out the best in any amp or bass! For example I own a modern telebass with humbuckers that gives a really nasty-unwanting boomy bass tone to my taste, it has no clean attack or drive but when I use it with present and and blend cranked, I get a wonderful emulated bass tone WITH the good boomy humbucker tone! Its amazing how this pedal works, I got the pedal bored version because rack cases get too heavy and wide so just bringing a sansamp pedal head (svt7pro/svtclassic) and boss a tu-2 loadin/out to a show is lightwightwieght (depending on if I use my 8x10 and SVT-CL or 4x10 and Svt7) and SUPER POWERFUL! Sansamps are also really good on your actually bass amps, as rock/metal bass players we tend to be loud so we tend to push the tubes on your amp for solid state players you will clip, the sansamp helps you achieve volumes without pushing your amps tubes so you will have a better tubelife on your amp.

DI Box, but not effects pedal

        By Val Strode

        from Saint Louis, MO

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI:

What this is and what it is not; It is a DI box, and a pretty good one from my experience in recording studios. If you plan to be in the studio, get one of these instead of using one with no controls. Or, if you plan on using the PA (with subwoofers) playing live and do not want to drag around your amp, get one. If you plan on replacing your effects pedal with this, don't. It has 5 buttons, 7 knobs, a foot button, 1 input, 3 outputs; INPUT - Input from your bass here, before going to any other pedals. The manual says to zero out your bass controls for active bass and set normally for passive bass, but actually don't change anything on your bass. Parallel output - this bypasses any of the device's mods and is great for going to a tuner pedal or clean amp. XLR - For going to the PA or in the studio. Don't use the phantom power unless the XLR will supply power to your device. You will need a 9v battery or 9v standard pedal power connection (not supplied) with this unit. LEVEL - Set to 12 o'clock to match the power output with the stomp button off. Otherwise, this is your volume. BLEND - How much of the signal gets processed and how much goes clean. Set to max (5'oclock) to get full effects of pedal. Anything less is probably not worth using. MID - Actually probably a mid-high CHARACTER - High or treble knob DRIVE - DIrty fuzz, sounds like a broken speaker. You will need some level on this, probably set to 9 o'clock. LOW - Low HIGH - Mid high actually Buttons; Phantom power (to power unit from XLR) +10db - bumps up output. Not really needed BITE - Adds a touch more of high SPEAKER - Makes the output sound like you have multiple speakers, like 10's. This unit does not do effects per se, but gives you enhanced lows, mids, and lots of highs from which to choose. Comes in a metal box for transporting safely. Overall, you will notice some richer lows and crackling highs using this product. Again, if you need a DI it is the best one I have used so far.

        Fantastic sound

        By Cameron Simpson

        from MI

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI:

I mainly use this for playing morning worship at my church and the sound I get from this is fantastic. I run a Fender American P Bass through it and it puts out such a smooth sound. And for touring I don't need a huge amp anymore, granted there is a PA. This DI can be used for any size venue, from a small club to a huge outdoor outing. It is by far worth the price, the tube emulation circuitry works phenomenally. Well done Tech 21. I recommend this DI for every bass player, it's definitely necessary.

        Makes My Flatwound Sound Fat

        By Steve Cain

        from Aurora, ll

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI:

I play using flatwound strings which make for easy action but can be thin sounding. We use this on the stage amp I play through at church and the sound is amazing. It makes my bass sound fuller and fatter. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to deepen their sound.

        So Far So Good

        By steven byrd

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI:

I am a amateur Recording Engineer with a background in guitar. I've always heard about how great the Sans Amp is but never bothered with it. My first impressions are: WOW!! Great punchy bass tones without an amp; awesome. I haven't even begun to use the full potential of this little box but I can say with out a doubt if you're recording bass, get one.
