This is a great amp for modeleers such as the POD 2.0, Pod XT Live, or the Boss GT-8. What you put into it is what you get out of it, a clear reproduction, uncolored. Get 2 of them and go stereo. This is a less expensive alternative to the Atomic Reactor amp, but is definitely worth a listen.

The Tech 21 power engine is a great concept. You buy an amp with the least amount of features and it will not mess up your procceser's sounds when your useing it. Once you program your procceser to the amp, your good to go. The one major draw back I found was the amount of noise the amp makes when turned on. It's not a quiet amp!, it sounds like the ground is not working right. I would say it was just my amp, but I have exchanged the amp three times and all the amps have the same noise when turned on. My RP1000 noise gate helps a little in keeping the noise down, but I would only use the amp for gigs. To record with it would be a nightmare of backround noise.Turn on the amp and put the controls all at 50% and listen to the buzz before buying

great amp but little flat on high end but their is a mod for it
add a pyle pdbt28 1 inch heavy duty titanium super tweeter to it for under 15 dollars and add the highness you hear in the headphones. just connect it to the speaker and mount it inside.

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:

I have used a Floor Pod for recording for some time and have tweaked the presets to fit my guitars and style. I could never get a good live performance sound though. I finally ordered the Power Engine to see if it performed as advertised - gave a faithful reproduction of the sound from the pod. The unit arrived today. I thought I would try out all my guitars with their Floor Pod presets for a quick overview. Two hours later I had only gotten to the second guitar, I couldn't stop playing. A few minor tweaks to my presets and what was coming out of the Power Engine were the same sounds I have been recording direct, only much louder and ballsier. It is exactly what I was looking for. I can't wait to play it live. Good value, excellent sound. Here's to truth in advertising.

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:

My old 2x12 died and I started thinking about replacement options. I am fond of Tech21 pedals (The "Blonde" personality pedal is a permanent fixture in my rig now...) and the tone they create - so I read about the PE60 and was intrigued. So, as an experiment, I decided to get one and just plug it in to the end of my pedal chain (compressor, Tech21 Blonde, digital delay, chorus, and verb.)

I am sold -- it sounds awesome. So much better than my old 2x12 setup. All of the tone comes shining through, no extra amp coloration at all. I am thrilled with this thing, and will start gigging with it soon.

PS I am semi-pro, have a day job but still play daily and gig now and then. Have been playing for 28 years or so -- but this is only the 3rd amp I've ever owned. So I'm hoping this one lasts as long as the first two!

      Eleven Rack Problem Solver

      By Dave _Goddard

      from Ashburn, Virginia

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:

I bought the Tech 21 Power Engine 60 from GC used. It was like brand new. I wanted something to faithfully reproduce the modeled amps from my Avid Eleven Rack. Running the Rack through my other amps seemed to color the sound of the models and they didn't sound as real. I had read about this Tech 21 and seen a few demos on Youtube and decided to try it. It took several days to finally get the neutral sound I was looking for to allow the fullness of the amp models in the Eleven Rack to radiate through but once dialed in, WOW! I have to say it's like having all the classic amps in my studio, that's how realistic it sounds. The positioning of the knobs is a little weird but no biggie. I am so glad I found the Tech 21 Power Engine 60. It does have a three band e.q. to mess with the sound but once dialed in, the sound is rich, full and schweeeeet. Hey, it has a Celestion 12" speaker inside. Each day the sounds get better and better as the amp gets broken in. Honestly, if you are looking for that one piece of gear that will enhance to the max, your Sans Amp, Eleven Rack, POD or other pedal, you must give the Tech 21 a try. It was exactly what I was looking for my Eleven Rack to get the perfect sound I was looking for.

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:

As stated before, Tech21 designed the Power Engine 60 to work with it's own Sansamp and other amp simulators... It is lightweight and sounds clear and punchy. ***Potential problem*** Some units have incapatable grounding when using the 1/4" input. This creates a loud hum in the Power Engine 60. Fixing this problem is super easy. Simply take an XLR jack and solder the 1 and 3 lugs together. Insert this jack into the Power Engine's XLR input and connect your guitar FX unit through the 1/4" jack. Problem solved. No more Hum. This is a great unit and Tech 21's Customer Service is top notch. I own numerous Tech21 products... Highly Recommended!

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:

It has always surprised me the most guitar amps are designed to dramatically engineer the guitar sound while there are so many excellent pedals out there that do the same. Why do we need both? In fact, do we really want both since the two approaches can interfere with each other. This amp is perfect for those that prefer to use pedals to shape their sound. It has lots of clear open back power to reproduce the sounds that the pedal makers intended. One of these has plenty of power for most venues but if you need to move more air just get another one connect it with an xlr cable.

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:

I've had mine for a year and a half. Sounds great. Powerful enough, very flexible. Although my 'modeling' pre-amp has cab simulators, the sound of a good 12 inch guitar speaker is much better to have.

I bought it for the flexibility; on that it shines.
I can use it with my 'modeling' preamp for gigs that need all those sounds.
I use it with a little tube preamp for a clean jazz sound when I don't need the pedal board.
I use it as a stage monitor out of my board for when I play multiple guitars. Only one amp and no guitar cord changing. As well as when I play my synth guitar I can mix the level to the amp. If need be mix in others in my monitor. Works great this way with guest guitar players too.

Only thing I would have liked is it both inputs could be use simultaneously, or better a little mixer on board.

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:

Depsite being a tube amp user for years and heavily resisting solid state, let alone amp modellers, I picked up a POD XT Live to make recording guitars a lot less of a hassle. It worked well for me BUT I was trying to emulate these tones from my album on stage with little success. Using the POD direct to the PA sounded harsh and artificial to me. So I thought I'd try the Power Engine. Voila! The only recommendations I would make if you are using a POD thru the Power Engine is A) USE THE COMBO POWER AMP setting on the output so that the amp mic emulation is eliminated and B) avoid using the distortion/overdrive emulators on the pod. What I find sounds best is using a great distortion pedal that you like for higer gain (ie. Tube Screamer, Boss OD, Blues Driver, etc.) and using a mostly clean amp model on the POD. The emulated distortions just sound bad in a live environment.

Overall, the Power Engine 60 is perfect for small gigs (up to say a 200 person room) & rehearsals. This will be my gigging amp and I'm a tube guy. It just works and it sounds great, looks great, weighs nothing and is dead simple to use.

I bought this to use with a guitar processor.(Boss GT3)It sounds great. I was using a keyboard amp and this is a lot better to get clean power for the speaker simulator. The quality on the build seems to be really good and the best part is it's light weight.

2 install a Jay Mitchell foam doughnut ( look it up on the gear page )as a beam blocker
