This guitar is really impressive as acoustic guitars go. I first came across one in a best buy, checking out different guitars to pass the time that day. After trying the much hyped Ovation guitar and being quite disappointed, I noted that this one also had an interesting look and picked it up. The result? It was quite simply the best acoustic guitar I had ever played. The sound was neither too hollow, nor too sharp (problems that had turned me off to the majority of acoustic guitars) but every note I hit rang out more perfectly than I ever could have expected. Usually, I do not think a guitar is worth buying if it is this much money, but this particular guitar seems to be the exception to that rule, as it is entirely flawless.
Just one word : AWESOME This guitar is wonderfull. Thanks a lot to Guitar Center Memphis.
The sixth string buzz on every fret disappoints me, to say the least. So much about the guitar is so beautiful, from its feel to its weight to its tone to its balance, but after all is said and done, it's all about clean sound, and my special ordered T5 fails this singular most important requirement. To have to take my precious time to return it to the store and to go through all the hassle to return it, to wait for the replacement or repaired instrument really hurts. Clearly, the quality control leaving the factory leaves something to be desired.
I ordered the T5 for my husband's anniversary gift. I considered buying from other retailers but wanted to buy locally. I called my local Guitar Center and recevied fantastic service. We will shop here again! My husband got his first Taylor 7 years ago and never played his other 4 guitars. This brand gives an excellent quality instrument for a reasonable price. The T5 is so much more than he even expected. The 5 positions offer the flexibility he needs as he leads his band. Taylor did not disappoint him again!
Excellent workmanship on the spruce top. It's very resonate for quiet practice. Plugged in, it has a different character with lots of different sounds. I play it clean and don't use distortion. I like no.1, 2 and 4 position. I boost the bass, cut back treble. All the time the guitar still sounds acoustic like. I have a Gibson SST and this guitar has a different sound. To me it sounds best through my PA, just do lots of experimenting. My guitar plays very well with low action with no buzz. Probably the best strings are the .11 gauge. Have fun.
Lately, live acoustic musicians have been looking for superb tone without the feedback of the hollowbody. Many have come out and for me, it just seems as though that the Taylor crew just decided to jump on the bandwagon of live solidbody acoustic instrument demands. Nothing really revolutionary about the T5 other than its use of the Expression System which really only works with their hollowbody line which sound amazing itself... but on their hollowbody models. The T5 although has that feel.... nothing really special about it.... my thoughts...
