Sweet Addiction

By David Claud

from West Plam Beach, FL.

This guitar was calling my name for a few months. I usually visit acoustic guitar room whenever I go the GC and this was a new addition on the wall that just stood out and spoke to me. When iI first played it I was amazed at the quality and ease of play. Every time I went into the store I played it and loved it more each time. Then I researched it online and discovered the unique design features of the electronic s and this just added to the fever. I decided to but it but the day I went in to get it was gone! I was crazy for this guitar so went to another GC store to buy one they had but it didn't play quite as nice. I had to have one and decided to order one and take my chances. I am glad I did. This guitar is a fine instrument and I cannot say enough about the quality of Taylor guitars. Also thanks to Chris at WPB GC store for helping get this baby in my hands for Christmas.

I purchased this guitar from the Sacramento Guitar Center. The folks at the store especially Jose, were fantastic. I love the guitar and it plays better than any electric I currently own. The sound is unbelievable. Warmest regards to the professionalism of the Sacramento Guitar Center. Thanks Jose!

great guitar

By Kevin

from houston

I got this as a gift from my wife. I own a Les Paul, a Strat, an Ibanez hollow body electric, a Takamine acoustic and a Martin Backpacker. It has a beautiful tone --it seems to have a lot of versatility but I prefer a clean sound and I haven't really tested out its range. I have only had it a couple of weeks. It has a perfect neck and it is without a doubt the lightest guitar I have ever played. That wasn't even a consideration when I was "hinting" to my wife that this would be a great Christmas gift. I am an old gray hair, though, so that turned out to be a nice plus. in the end the only thing that matters in a guitar is how it plays and how it sounds and this one deserves 5 stars for both

A Warning

By Dom

from seattle, WA

I wanna say from the start that this guitar is INCREDIBLE. I bought it about two years ago and it has surpassed my expectations. As an acoustic, the tone is amazing. People judge it becuase it is so thin, but the acoustic tone it produces keeps up with all the fully acoustic Taylor lineup. the guitar also works great with distortion, overdrive, and any other effect you wanna throw its way. It does not capo very well... you have to do it just right. some capos squeeze too hard and it goes out of tune. The price is the biggest issue here. If you are going to be using acoustic and electric settings equally much, then the guitar is worth it. But as just an electric, you can buy one just as good, or even better for a much lower price. I regret rushing into buying this guitar because i could have bought an amazing electric and plenty of effects for the same price.

Hardest Decision Ever

from Friendswood, Texas

I have been wanting an Acoustic / Electric for a very long time. I had a Martin D3532 that had an amazing sound. It actually sounded better than my '51 Gibson J45, my '77 Gibson J50, and my '94 Gibson J180, but I have been a little bored lately so I wnt to GC and took a look around. I tried out all of the new Gibsons, Breedloves, and then the Taylor guitars. I tried at least 5 different Taylors, but I was really taken by the amazing quality and sound of the Taylor 814Ce. I did not want to do the "impulse buy" so I left and returned the next day to go through the same process. This time I also tried the Taylor T5 with the Koa top. WOW! ---hooked up to a couple of amps (Acoustic and Electric at the same time to get the full effects). This guitar has renewed my spirit and interest in learning so many new things. I cannot believe the beauty, feel, and sounds that this guitar has. I also have a '08 Fender Stratocaster and a Gibson '66 Melodymaker. As hard as it was for me to imagine, I have no reason to believe that I will renew any interest in playing any of the other guitars I own now that I have the Taylor T5. The 5 different p/u combination selections, ease of tone and volume control, lightweight and thin-body characteristics, coupled with the correct combination of Acoustic/Electric Amps (not very expensive ones) there is nothing this Taylor T5 cannot do. I have had a lot of shoulder problems in the past. I play right-handed and when sitting, I play with the guitar over my right thigh. SOme of the larger bodied guitars present a tiring and uncomfortable playing position for me after about ten minutes, but with the Talyor T5's thin body I have played all evening and never got that shoulder ache. This is the most comfortable guitar I have played and I have never been happier with any guitar like I am with the Taylor T5.

Taylor T5 Custom Koa

By Nick

from Worthington, Ohio

I took a trip up to GC just to play around and see if i could find anything interesting and new. I tried out quite a few acoustics while i was there. Taylors, Breedloves, Gibsons, Martins, etc. I could honestly say that i didnt really like most of them. Even the super expensive ones. Then I saw sitting in the showcase, a Taylor T5.. I picked it up and before i even starting playing i just knew... it was "the guitar". The one i'd been searching for for quite a while. It was no doubt the most comfortable acoustic ive ever played in my entire life. I'm very pleased with the sound: very crisp and bright. The only qualm i have with it is that i wish it had a little more low end when not plugged in, but thats something you sacrifice when you have such a thin guitar. Needless to say it will be mine sometime soon.. =]

A Big Surprise!

By Richard B

from Myrtle Beach, SC

A guitar that hides a lot of versatility and a wide, unexpected, combination of tones and performance. Try a T5 and you will probably add one to your collection. Careful, though, a T5 has that "come hold and play with me" magic about it---you may not be able to put it down. I have the Koa top T5. Exceptional build quality and fully up to Taylor standards. It's a pleasure to play and seems to just "feel right." in my hands. For small rooms or just practice I use it without an amp. Playing this way it has a nice warm tone that I am told will warm even more as the Koa ages. Acoustically--without an amp, it doesn't have the warmth and fullness of a full size sitka spruce/rosewood build, but still very nice and crisp. Connected to a Mesa Lone Star amplifier the guitar warms up beautifully producing sweet warm, rich, thick acoustic tones---from an amp made for an electric. It really shows off how this amp nicely. Likewise, it has the ability to give crunchy electric with just the flip of a switch (or two). Connected to more of a PA style Bose L1, I get nice crisp acoustic sounds that ring out strong and whole. Hope this helps.

I got this guitar as a present from my wife last April 2008 and I love it. I'm not sure why this has a rating of 4 with everyone talking about how great it is, you get what you pay for and I already got rid of one of my other guitars. If you want to be envied by your friends, get this guitar!

I have the T5 Koa and is has a great great sound and feel. I also have a $5K PRS McCarty which is a great guitar, but I use the T5 most often because of its great tone. I also use the Taylor K4 EQ with a Marshall 50W Acoustic and Fender Twin with A/B Box, playing through both amps. Works great with this particular guitar. I love it!!

All I thought it would be

By Melinda Smith

from West Hollywood, CA

I'm a novice player taking up guitar after having played a bit as a teenager many years ago. I'd been daydreaming about a T5 and was lucky enough to receive one as a gift. It's an absolute pleasure - everything I play sounds so good it's as though the instrument invites me to do more at each step. The action is light and the tone beautiful, and its versatility gives me the range to try many types of music.I had been leaning toward the standard model with the sage green metallic finish but the koa top is so beautifully figured that, sitting on the stand, it seems to call out from across the room. Now the only problem is that all I want to do is sit around and play!
