Overview

There's something undeniably inviting about the Taylor GS Mini's scaled-down size, yet a single strum reveals the impressive voice of a full-size guitar. That mix of portability and musicality has proven to be a winning combination that fits into so many scenarios in life, from the couch to the campfire to the concert hall. It's not too big, it's not too precious, and it's not too expensive.

That broad-based accessibility has given it a resounding universal appeal, not to mention a built-in fun factor. The shorter 23-1/2" scale length makes forming chords a breeze yet gives the instrument plenty of snap and tuning stability for a rewarding playing experience. The acoustic-electric versions enjoy a sweet upgrade to ES2 electronics. All GS Mini models include a durable hard bag built by Taylor for the optimal fit.

Tonewoods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Mahogany is a hardwood that produces a natural compression, yielding more "roll-in" effect to a note. The compression evens out a lively attack for a more linear response. Layered back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

Electronics
Taylor's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before.

Together with Taylor’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar. The Taylor Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume, bass and treble controls.

What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar makes me want to play it - I love the sound. As a fairly slim built female, it is way more comfortable to play than a full-sized guitar which surprised me.

Portable. I take it to a Rehabilitation center to play for the patients. It has a full sound despite its body size. It's a blast to play.

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Of the three choices I was presented (spruce, mahoghany and KOA) I went with the Mahoghany because it sounds warmer to my ears.
The guitar is fun to play, the intonation is really nice, the frets are clean and smooth and the sound is really warm.
What I am not pleased with is the Fishman electronics.
It sounds like there is a built in compressor/sustainer in the system.
Strumming gets pressed down, and light touches are amplified beyond what makes these sounds sound good.
So, every move or touch of a string is really loud. Being "Squeaky" is difficult to avoid. But then, if I start strumming or picking, the sound immediately gets pressed down.
String noise shouldn't be louder than string play.
I understand Taylor wanted to make this guitar hot for its size but I think Fishman went overboard with the heat.
I would have preferred it not to have this reaction and had it more dry. If I wanted it compressed, I could have done that myself with a pedal.
I retrospect, I wish I had bought the non-electric version because I'll never plug this thing in.

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar. It has been going slightly out of tune but I am optimistic this is because of brand new strings. I have only had it for 2 days. I had the same model minus the electronics and it stayed in tune beautifully. I traded it in for this one as I was unsatisfied with the sound of the passive pick up. The Taylor electronics on this one sound fantastic.

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have several other Taylor guitars (400, 700, and 800-series, plus a Baby Taylor), and this has become my favorite for practice and travel. It has a rich sound and yet is small enough to be used all over the house. The gig bag is gorgeous...similar to the Baby Taylor. I'm taking it on a Caribbean yacht charter and hope to get it on the plane without checking it. Fantastic value!!!
