There's something undeniably inviting about the Taylor GS Mini's scaled-down size, yet a single strum reveals the impressive voice of a full-size guitar. That mix of portability and musicality has proven to be a winning combination that fits into so many scenarios in life, from the couch to the campfire to the concert hall. It's not too big, it's not too precious, and it's not too expensive.

That broad-based accessibility has given it a resounding universal appeal, not to mention a built-in fun factor. The shorter 23-1/2-inch scale length makes forming chords a breeze yet gives the instrument plenty of snap and tuning stability for a rewarding playing experience. The acoustic-electric versions enjoy a sweet upgrade to ES2 electronics. All GS-Mini models include a durable hard bag built by Taylor for the optimal fit.

Tone Woods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Layered back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less succeptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

I have been waiting since the announcement for this guitar to be released. It did not disappoint. It is small, lightweight, comfortable to play and good looking. The factory gig-bag is a dream. It is well padded and a secure way to transport the guitar in the car, on a plane or almost anywhere. It is not a full-size guitar for sure but with the factory medium strings it has a great volume and superb tone for its size.

In short, I give the sound and size 5 stars. The fit and finish were a 1 on the guitar I played. The frets stuck out, the 6th string buzzed out from the 6th fret on and all strings buzzed out from the 10th fret on. Probably due to humidity (lack of) but if you get a new instrument you want to know they took care of it until it arrived in your hands. I love how it plays. It's a small guitar that plays big. It's got great tones for the size. It's the best travel guitar I've played for tone, ease of playing, and overall size. The baby taylors are too small for my hands as I can hardly play a string without hitting two. The little martin is okay but lacks taylors legendary playability AND the GS Mini blows it out of the water volume-wise. I WOULD love to find one that had a good fit and finish. I'd buy it instantly. Because of my experience I hesitate to buy one online

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Spruce and Sapele Acoustic Guitar:

This is the perfect guitar for me-it fits me perfectly (I had a rotator cuff tear a few years ago and playing a standard size acoustic makes the arm sore) It is a work of art, sounds beautiful, a real joy to have and hold!. Danvers store assistant Dick Couture was extremely helpful in finding the right guitar for me. Thank you!

Spruce top sounds really bright and that's how I like em'. Amazing sound!!! Mind blowing volume considering the size. Easy to play even for a novice. I seriously do not think you can beat the quality for the price. Worth every penny! The gig bag is also big time quality. Way better than you might expect. I would not hesitate to take this guitar anywhere in that bag because I know it is well protected.

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Spruce and Sapele Acoustic Guitar:

I picked one of these up a couple weeks ago just for giggles and basically lusted after it until I bought one. It really is a fantastic instrument that can compete sound wise with guitars costing 2 to 3 times more. It's difficult to find this kind of quality T this price.

The sound pickup seemed a bit overly bright to me but it may be my gear.

I also have to give a big attaboy to the Louisville guitar center help, you guys really do rock and will see you guys again soon.

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Spruce and Sapele Acoustic Guitar:

I'm a beginner at the guitar and I am learning how to play on this one. It has a great sound and very easy to tune. I've had this guitar for about 3 months, and it's been so great! The finish is so nice and it's about the perfect weight for me. Since I haven't had it that long I can't tell if the colors fade over time or not, but as of now, I haven't had major, or minor, problems with it. Honestly, it's really great. It's a little expensive, but it truly is worth the buy.

          Little guitar, big sound

          By Bob Hebee

          from Southington, Ct

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Spruce and Sapele Acoustic Guitar:

I picked up this guitar to bring on vacation and take to the boat. I am lucky as I live within 30 miles of two Guitar Center Stores. I played the spruce top, mahogany top and a rosewood backed model at Sam Ash. The spruce top model that I ended up purchasing was the first one I played at the Guitar Center in my town. So much for doing my guitar testing tour. I was torn between the spruce and mahogany because of other reviews and played both for a long while. I even had one of the sales guys play both so I could listen from the front. The sound is definitely different and like everything, it comes down to personal preference. The mahogany has a more controlled sound and is kind of "Martin sounding". I have a Taylor 310CE and love that bright, big Taylor sound. That made the difference for me. I chose the spruce top model. I have had the guitar for a week now and can't put it down. The set up was perfect right from the store and this guitar really stays in tune. The neck is extremely comfortable and the smaller size really makes it easier and fun to play. I highly recommend this guitar.

          Iplay it for pleasure

          By Edward Arnold

          from Nashville, Tennessee

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Spruce and Sapele Acoustic Guitar:

I am not a muscian. I play the guitar for pleasure and although I have excellent equipment, I have no desire to perform or write songs. I enjoy sitting on the couch, drinking beer, and playing guitar. I went to Guitar Center to look at the new Taylor GS Mini acoustic guitar. The purpose for the guitar is for my ten year-old daughter. She needs something smaller and the new Taylor is not a baby Taylor. I played four songs, "Oh Happy Day", "Here Comes the Sun", "You Were Always on My Mind" and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". The guitar sounded great but to be fair, I also played the same songs on the Baby Martin. To be honest, the Baby Martin had a crisper, clearer more pure sound. However, the Taylor GS Mini sounded unique. The Taylor GS Mini had a ... growl! It could be this particular one, all guitars are slightly different, or it could be the model in general. After much careful thought, I purchased the Taylor. I have owned it for 20 months and I have not tired of it yet. I own this Taylor, a Martin HD-28 purchased in 1994, and a Les Paul Studio purchased in 2009. I tend to play the Taylor GS Mini more often than the other two combined. My two children like the sound of the Taylor better than my Martin HD 28. I kept asking my daughter why she likes the sound better. She phrased her answer strangely. "The new guitar sounds mad (angry). It has an attitude!" Music critics! The kids are only eight and twelve years-old ... what do they know?
