The Taylor GA3-12 represents a contemporary take on traditional 12-string design. It has full 12-string tone despite its more slender, hour-glass Grand Auditorium shape. Signature Taylor performance, quality, and value make their sapele/spruce acoustic guitars a great introduction to the solid-wood Taylor experience. The resulting combination provides the perfect guitar for strong, rhythmic playing styles.
Although the Grand Auditorium body style has the width and depth of a dreadnought, its narrower waist gives it the appearance of a smaller instrument, adds treble "zing" across the guitar's tonal spectrum, sharpens the definition of individual notes, and rests more comfortably in your lap. With less mass from the width of the braces, the guitar top moves faster, resulting in a snappy, bell-like tone.

If you're into a 12 string, this is a great guitar and value. I've owned a Gibson and Guild 12 string and sold them in the past because I just didn't like the sound or feel. This one has all of the Taylor quality you would expect with low action and a highly responsive, bright sound (I also own a Taylor 414ce which I'm pretty happy with). I also bought it on sale with case at the store with a $200 off discount so I feel walked away with a really good deal!
I bought this guitar for myself as a graduation present and I am just thrilled with the sound and quality. I expected it to be pretty hard to play coming from a standard 6 string, but it is actually easier for me to play as the strings barre much better than on my Ibanez 6 string. I am also able to pick the strings which I didn't think I'd be able to do and I get a great sound. The sound is just gorgeous. It also came with an awesome case, which I didn't expect at all. I mean, this case is serious business, it's nice and hard, and my guitar fits so snugly in it. I would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone, beginner to advanced.
I have been playing for 40 plus years and have owned several 12 strings before including Martins and Guilds. This one is exceptional for the price. Playability and tone are right on the money. An excellent choice. Of course the Taylor quality is right there too.
I'm now a bona fide Taylor enthusiast. In May 2010 I purchased a GS8-E and love it. I never thought I'd venture into a 12 string - too difficult, tension of strings...This Taylor GA3-12 changed my mind about 12 strings. As with all Taylors, it has great playability (far superior to Yamahas and Guilds that were experienced). And the tone has this creamy/shimmering quality that I, and all who hear it, love. If there is one weakness - it is a touch weak in the base, but only a touch. Very, very good 12 string at a great price.
Went to buy my third Taylor and wasn't real sure on which one I wanted until I set down and played this one,I was a little unsure with the GA body style but believe me it has some nice low end and the treble is just right,it really does have full 12 string tone.
