Taylor DN-3

By Colin

from Scotland

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

After a short gap year of 38 years - bought myself an acoustic! I simply love this guitar - its just perfect for me. Playability, tone, feel and quality all excellent. I did visit a few times - tried out the usual line ups - but this Taylor was it for me. My wife even picked it out too for its tone alone. So - after 38 years, great to be back. I play every day now.... and getting there one string at a time as they. Always wanted a quality instrument but this has surpassed my expectations especially for the price point. The hard case is superb too....

Best in Price Range

By Allan Truesdell

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I play professionally and needed another 6 string. I had grown unhappy with the direction of Guild and Martin going "oversees" so thought I would try an entry level hard wood AMERICAN MADE Taylor. WOW! The craftsmanship is perfect. The tuning pegs are what you would expect in a professional grade guitar. They didn't dye the ebony on the fretboard and it's marbled in a way that's very eye pleasing. The top is absolutely AAAA grade. The lines and checkering are beautiful. I use L.R. Baggs M1 Active pickups. Taylor had the foresight to already have a properly sized hole bored where the end-pin jack goes. Unscrew the end-pin, knock out the threaded anchor and your ready slide in your jack. 5 minute job and now drilling required! This guitar with the baggs pickup has become my favorite setup. I play 6 shows a week and have had the guitar 3 months now, it's holding up perfectly. For under 1,200.00 bucks this guitar is a steal!

Taylor wins!

By mike

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Just completed an exhaustive search this past summer where I played dozens of acoustics in the $1000-1500 range (and some higher, although I couldn't afford them!)I finally narrowed it down to a couple Martins, and the DN3. The Taylor won the four main evaluations I considered: neck, action, tone and volume. The neck plays like butter; very smooth and feels great in my hand. The action is perfect- hammer-ons and barre chords are easy and sound great. The tone is well balanced, especially the mids. And the volume totally blew away the Martins in this price range. Great sustain! Even finger picking came across strong. I can't say it beats Martins and Gibsons for double the price, but for $ this is the best acoustic I found. Very happy...

great for the money

By Derock

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

after playing the 200 series and then the Dn3. i was very impressed with the huge jump in tone and sustain out of this package. For a little more money then a 200 taylor this is a significantly way better guitar plus its a solid wood all the way around.

Very Nice

By Bill

from New Mexico

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I had set my mind up that a Gibson Songwriter was the next guitar for me. I picked up this Taylor and changed my mind. It has a great sound and is very easy to play. I feel that it has improved my playing skills, what little I have. Anyway, it is a great guitar and I am very pleased with it. I may still buy the Gibson though. It would be cool to have them both.

Whoa, Cannon!

By Scott

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I went into GC certain I was going to buy a Martin or a Breedlove at around $1000. I picked up this guitar for comparison and BOOM! Nothing in the price range could touch the volume of this guitar. Playability and rich tone sealed the deal. A pickguard would have been nice, But that can easily be added.

A real winner!

By Joe

from Rye, NH

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've owned a DN3 before this one but had to sell it. Now, I am lucky enough to have bought this one which I will KEEP. It is at least as good as the one I had before. This one arrived from Guitar Center via UPS and plays like a dream - sounds awesome. I can't put it down! Thank you Guitar Center and Taylor!

Is it really true?

By Bobby Spassov

from Las Vegas, NV

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Yes it is that good. I have been playing guitar on and off for 12 years this is my second high priced acoustic ( I consider high to be more than $1000 for an acoustic). The first acoustic I bought and end up exchanging for this one was Martin GPCPA4, which is a good guitar but I replaced the plastic bridge pins with Tusq, lowered the action and still couldn't get it to play comfortably for me. I tend to be a heavy strummer so I was experiencing a lot of string buzz. So back to GC, I played most every guitar on the wall (even when choosing the Martin) and the DN3 just melted in my hands like butter. Action was almost perfect off the wall, it sounded warm and loud compared to other Taylors I've played even the higher end. It looks so simple yet elegant, although I installed a pick guard and some abalone inlayed pins just a personal touch. I have been playing it for over two weeks now and it seem to be build flawlessly. I also but some Martin DARCO 12s and its louder with a better bottom end. The case is supper nice, it would have been even better if you are able to lock it. My advise is if this instrument is in your price range definitely worth giving it a go. If your budget is smaller try some of the Seagulls they are very nice guitars IMO. In conclusion I would buy this guitar again with no doubt in my mind.

Thanks !

By Kevin Skotnicki

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I recently stopped in Guitar Center with a plan to purchase a Breedlove. However, after trying one, and after asking a few questions , the staff suggested I try the Taylor DN3 as well. Couldn't be happier! The Breedlove felt stiff (then agian, I haven't played in over 2 decades). The Taylor felt great, and continues to feel great.

Not too Bright

By John Traynor

from Bronxville, NY

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

To start I am not a militant Taylor guy or Martin for that matter..I actually own and love models from both..The online arguments about these two companies can be daunting for new players trying to find a guitar. That said..I own this guitar and it is fantastic, not too much Taylor brightness...Definitely has Taylor playability..it just sings. Great bass and it really resonates..The only draw back would be ..its really loud lol.. not the guitar for night time strumming. seems to stay in tune forever..For an all wood dread with this quality of sound and workmanship its a steal..

Exemplary Guitar

By Matt BenDaniel

from Boston, MA

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

My DN3 has beautiful tone and harmonics, and huge volume. Action is excellent. I really like the wide nut. Easy to precisely tune and stays in tune, even adding capo. Build quality is amazing, even what can be seen inside the sound hole. No flaws I can find. Strap buttons are fine. I plan to install aftermarket pickup. Purchased 2012. Taylor is also a leader in using sustainable woods.

Awesome Guitar!

By Mitchell Brewer

from Murrieta, CA

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought the DN3 today, it is awesome! Singing trebles, booming bass, and just the right amount of mids. Super lightweight guitar, looks pretty and sounds just as good! FYI, I bought the Fishman Rare Earth Active Humbucking Soundhole pickup and installed it in like 7 minutes, also highly recommended for this guitar (sounds great through a PA). Happy buying!

Fine instrument!

By christopher Hanny

from Cape Coral, Florida

Comments about Taylor DN3 Sapele/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This was my first Taylor purchase as I have always been a Martin man myself. I must say it is very similar to a D-16 although with a little brighter punctual sound and its also easier to play than a Martin in my opinion having owned 3 of them previously. It has good projection while at the same time being light weight. I am very pleased with my purchase!
