Overview

The Baby Taylor's scaled-up sibling, the Big Baby (15/16th-size), makes a sleek yet full-sounding travel companion with its svelte four-inch body depth, which is about a half-inch shallower than the depth of a standard Dreadnought. Slightly bigger than a Baby Taylor and just shy of a full-size guitar, the Big Baby Taylor is ideal for easy-playing, great-sounding guitar fun. The overall size keeps you in the ""portable"" category, yet with an extra dose of volume and fullness. Like the Baby, the Big Baby has an arched back that provides strength and contributes to its big tonal output. All Big Baby Taylor models ship with a durable travel-worthy gig bag made by Taylor for optimal fit and protection.

Tone Woods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Layered back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

I Can't Really Believe It Either!

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I am a self-proclaimed guitar addict. I love them like women love purses and shoes. So I own a ridiculous number of them, and I have never written a review for one in my 47 years. Until now. I bought a PRS Angelus in January, and really thought I'd never be more excited about a new acoustic guitar. And then I happened to pick up a Taylor (BBT)... I have a 614-CE, the PRS, a Takamine, a Yamaha, and a few others, and this BB Taylor is without a doubt the most incredible sounding guitar I own, and it's not even really close. This will sound snobbish, (and I say it to hopefully lend credibility to my review), but I never considered even picking one of these up before, because I've never played a guitar in this price range that I could envision myself playing after the newness wore off. I haven't taken any of the others out of their cases in a week. And I don't really see myself finding a reason to do so anytime soon. This is simply the most player friendly, sonically pleasing, resonating guitar I've ever had. I know, I can't believe it either, but the fact remains that the ears don't know brands, or price ranges. They just know which sounds stand out to them, and in a blind comparison, I'd wager on my Taylor BBT winning 8 of 10 times. Do yourself a favor, and play one. You'll hear what every reviewer on this site has heard, and you'll be as shocked as we all were.

Dang!!

By Minjae James Chung

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

For some reason almost everyone i know says the Big Baby sounds better then the 110 and the 120 which is crazy considering the price of the BB. It's not one bit an exageration! It has an unbelievable resonance and very nice balance of low and high, although as most Taylors are a bit more towards the high. It also has a very thin neck allowing a really soft touch! I carry around my MARTIN DCME a lot performing in public places, as much i love her i have to admit she's heavy. But the BBT being smaller is a looot more lighter really is a load off my shoulders. I would recommend this guitar to pretty much anyone, especially to those who want to own a Taylor but don't have the cash. A million times worth more than other guitars sold at the same price!

Only a Taylor Will Do

By Cody Frye

from DFW, TX

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I've owned a few acoustics in my 15+ years of playing, including Martin, Yamaha, Seagull, to name a few. It all comes down to preference but I feel like a Taylor, whether made at the California or Tecate factory, is the only guitar that has that special "something" for me. Low, fast, smooth action without the buzz & volume loss. Absolutely sparkling highs, balanced mids and lows. The ebony fretboard & saddle you don't find on most others. This is all true of the Big Baby. You don't get the finer appointments on a Mexican-made Taylor as you would an American-made, but the pride & workmanship are obviously there. The sapele laminate is beautiful, strong, and loud. The sitka spruce top is also very pretty and offers a lot of sustain, vibration, & tonal characters. This may be a mid-priced guitar but it doesn't feel or play like one. If I didn't know any better and the sticker said "Made in El Cajon, CA", I wouldn't think twice. The bolt-on neck with the exposed screws is a little unusual but certainly not a factor I would judge the entire guitar on. The headstock is fairly generic, just being lexan with a printed logo, but again...not something I'd judge the guitar on. These are mostly asthetic features that don't lend much to the playability or tone. As for the tuners, they're not top of the line but they're solid, smooth, they do a nice job keeping it in tune. I really recommend playing this guitar & comparing everything you can get your hands on for about $1000 or less. For me, my Big Baby just MAKES ME WANT TO PLAY GUITAR. It's so effortless & rewarding &, out of all the other acoustics I've owned & played, it's my favorite for many reasons. Bottom line is, you needn't be concerned where this guitar was made. All you need to know is that it's still a Taylor and nothing plays, feels, or sounds like a Taylor. For the price, it's a no-brainer.

amazing guitar

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

i played this guitar at samash musical center, and it was purely thee best guitar ive ever played in all my life. People may be wondering why it sounds so much better than a martin. Taylors sound better because the wood that Taylor companies make are the best woods out there. Taylors give more of a treble tone to it. martin guitars have more bass in it. i would highly recommend this guitar.

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I have ALWAYS wanted to learn to play acoustic guitar. Whenever I tried I would get frustrated because my fingers would hurt or could not reach to form chords. I went into Guitar Center during a busy evening, and felt totally overwhelmed with the selection. I walked out with a Yamaha FG700S, but when I tried to play it, it just felt huge. It also just felt like any other guitar. Nothing special. I went back a couple days later after doing some research and bought the Big Baby. It still looks like a normal size guitar, but it is not as deep/thick, and the neck of the guitar seems skinnier to me. I love the non-gloss finish, and that it comes with a very nice gig bag. Still not sure, I then went BACK to Guitar Center to consider upper model Taylors because I thought maybe it was too small, but without needing the electric components, I just don't see the point as a beginner. They all felt good. In fact, a man shopping asked to play my guitar, and asked if he could buy it from me! I'm keeping this big baby and in a few years, when I'm an awesome guitar player, I might splurge on one of those beautiful Taylors with the "Cindy" inlay!

    Great Guitar

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I went looking for a guitar at Gc in Vegas. I was looking at a little Martin, but quit the demo right away. Didn't care for the sound..It sounded like a kids toy. I tried other guitars like Yamaha, other Martins. I was ready to leave when the Eric, the sales dude handed me the Taylor Big Baby....I fell in love . The sound is full both bass and treble side. Its 15/16 size does not hurt the sound. I am a 67 year old with arthritis in my hands so the action had to be right on...and it was. It plays and sounds excellent. Buy this , you will be amazed .

    Taylor Big Baby

    By Andrew Brasko

    from Mount Laurel, New Jersey

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I was looking for that travel guitar and went through various brands like Yamaha, Takamine, Seagull and was coming up with a so-so guitar or one that I would be unhappy with after owning in a week or two. So I go into Guitar Center and sit down and start playing everything and came across the Taylor Big Baby. It was just a tad more than what I wanted to spend on that perfect travel & park guitar. Boy was this guitar a real eye opening surprise. The guitar looks beautiful (Okay Eye Candy) but strum it and start playing it and the tone that comes of of this guitar is amazing. I was sold on it. Not to mention my Guitar Center store rep gives a good high rating and talks the guitar up. So I buy the Taylor Big Baby, and go home. Here is when the true test begins. After you are home a day or two with the new guitar is when at times you really can tell that you have still bought a good to great guitar or it is so-so or in some cases what was I thinking. Well, being able to play this guitar un-interupted all morning I was totally and pleasently surprised by this Guitar. The Taylor Big Baby still looks great, feels really comfortable with that fast, smoothe Taylor neck, but the set-up on this guitar was spot on and the sounds/tones that came out of this guitar was amazing. I had to look at it again and make sure I was not playing one of my Taylor Dreads. This Guitar is fun and truly comfortable to play. It actually makes you want to play it even more and not want to put it down. My hands on the fret board feels so relaxed and made playing seem effortless. I highly reccomend this guitar for all to try. Lastly Just want to say that my Guitar Center Rep in Cherry Hill, NJ was outstanding. Not pushy, relaxed, answered questions when I asked and allowed me and my ears to play the guitar without ever being rushed. Now thats the way to do bussiness.

    Never disappoints

    By Douglas Crowell

    from Kosciusko Ms

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

When I decided to teach myself to play I asked the advice of a friend who owned many guitars and would give be advice unbiased and based on my plans for the guitar. Without hesitation he said "Taylor-Big Baby" and listed a few reasons, one being a good low action so I would stick with it. I have been playing about eight years now and it is still my go to guitar for a lot of reasons. The action is nice making it very comfortable. The intonation amazes me even compared to guitars at a price five times the cost. I pull out my tuner every once in a while and still don't know why. The BB holds tune as good or better than any. When I bought the guitar the spruce top was that usual very light color that you see on most new spruce top guitars. After 8 years it has the color of a light roasted coffee and it's nothing I did, it just aged that way and with it came a tone that's even more impressive than I ever hoped for. The lows came out and the blend between high and low is awesome. People that come over and have been playing high end Taylors or other brands can't believe it. If you have trouble with low end sound when it's new experiment with strings. A phosphor bronze may not be what you want until it ages. A coated string may be your cup of tea. Just try a few. My BB will always be my reach for companion. If you're looking, stop. Play a few Big Baby guitars and let your ears pick it out. Buy it and start picking !!!!!

Amazing guitar - It's a Taylor fit to play!

    By Rick Sims

    from Columbus Ohio

Comments about Big Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

If your looking for a guitar that has a great sound, feel, and for the price, you found the right guitar. Don't let the size fool you! I just recently purchase this guitar a few days ago at my local Guitar Center. After playing on a few low end to mid range Martins and a few Taylor models such as the 110,114,210,and a 214, I saw the Big Baby and was not going to give it a chance. Mainly because of the size compared to a regular size acoustic. I gave it a shot and WOW! I could not believe this guitar would sound this great! This Taylor has a great tone, I would say somewhat more bright than bassy like Martins yet it's not too bright like some of the other acoustics I own. Very easy to play and comfortable. The action was perfect, easy to pick, finger pick and strum! I also tried the Taylor Mini GS and I will say even though the mini is designed and ready for pick-ups to be installed, I would go with the Big Baby. You can still add pick-ups later if you decide too at a reasonable cost. I also own several Electric guitars from 81'Gibson Les Paul Custom Deluxe to Fender Strat and a few Ibanezs. My acoustic brands I own is Yamaha FX370CE (also purchased from G.C.), Fender DG14CE and Takamine CE, and several vintage non-electric Yamahas and Washburns. Go to your local Guitar Center and try this guitar out for yourself you will be amazed!
