Overview

Conceived as a starter guitar for kids, the lovable Baby Taylor has maintained its enduring appeal in part by being a legitimate musical instrument that anyone can enjoy. The three-quarter-size Dreadnought helped touring musicians like Taylor Swift sketch new musical ideas on the road, and it's been a reliable musical accomplice for travelers seeking inspiration while trekking the world. All Baby Taylor models ship with a durable travel-worthy gig bag made by Taylor for optimal fit and protection.

Tone Woods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Mahogany is a hardwood that produces a natural compression, yielding more "roll-in" effect to a note. The compression evens out a lively attack for a more linear response. Mahogany tops deliver strong fundamentals with clear and direct focus. The arched back of the guitar generates more sound from a small-bodied instrument, and using layered wood back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

THIS GUITAR IS FUN TO PLAY! I can't recommend it to anybody looking for a big sound like a full sized guitar....but that's not it's designed purpose. I bought this for use as a travel guitar to bring camping. For this purpose, it's ideal. I had the opportunity to compare the Sitka vs Mahogany tops and settled on the Mahogany BT-2. The Mahogany has a better mid-response which helps to tame the brightness of the small body.

I'll say it again: this guitar is simply fun to play. The action is as good as you get on an acoustic. The shorter (22.75") scale makes the string tension lower than a full sized guitar. This makes it possible to bend the E and B strings like on an electric. (The wound G string will only bend a half-step) The guitar is small enough that you can cradle it uke-style and play standing without a strap if necessary.

The fit and finish is bare-bones but solid. It takes a while to get used to the neck bolts through the 16th fret but this doesn't have any effect on playability. The matte varnish finish won't show minor scratches. The action is good and the tuners don't slip. The guitar won't win any beauty contests, but I repeat: that's not what you're buying it for. For playing around the campfire or at the beach, this guitar can't be beat. You can pack it into a small car with all your gear and still have room for a cooler full of (insert your favorite beverage).

I would recommend this guitar to anybody looking for a decent travel guitar that plays well and sounds half-decent.

In all my years of playing and owning dozens of guitars I have had only one guitar, my Baby Taylor which repeatedly came apart. The first time body came apart from the sides. Taylor determined it was a defect it was insufficiently glued and not user issue. They replaced the body. The next Baby Taylor's top came apart at the glue seam from the bridge to the back of the guitar. Upon examining it I realized that it was not properly glued there was almost no glue in the seam. Taylor determined that the guitar was not kept in a room with at least 40% humidity and told me the issue was low humidity. I tried to explain that it is stored in a humidified house with multiple other instruments some from the 1920s on to recent and multiple brands and the only guitar effected was the Taylor. The gentleman in the Warranty Department asked me to pay for a new body. I asked if they would repair it and was told "it is not worth repairing" we just replace the body". I tried to reason with them and asked them to look at the seam but they would not budge. I think Taylor does a great job of advertizing and promoting its instruments they look good and both my Baby Taylors sounded good. But in my opinion they do not stand up and Taylor does not stand behind their guitars, unless of course you are a high profile artist. I do not now how the other models are made but I would never buy another Baby Taylor and after my experience with the customer service I would never buy any Taylor.

Comments about Baby Taylor Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar for my granddaughter, I own five Taylors myself. Yes, you could pay way less for alot of other guitars, but you also get what you pay for. Make no mistake, this is a real instrument. It is built very well, sounds really good, and stays in tune. Is it perfect, of course not. Depending on your preference, you may want to tweak with the action like I did. I like my neck really flat and the strings low at the nut. These were easy adjustments for me to make and no big deal as far as the quality of the guitar. I would definately recommend this guitar if you want a real musical instrument and don't mind paying for for one.

Comments about Baby Taylor Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I needed a guitar that I could easily take with me to practice when on the road, this Baby Taylor is perfect, not too small for a grown woman and fun to play.
It sounds great and the gig bag is well designed and sturdy.

Comments about Baby Taylor Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

It's very versatile, because of the mahogany I can play quietly without as much twang. It has a marvelous sound that I prefer to the spruce top, and it's very nice looking. I love playing it at work, and I don't have to worry about spinning around in my chair and bumping into my desk AND it's small enough to have in my lap and type and use the mouse... The first day my boss saw me with it I had it in my lap and I was composing a Visio document, and writing emails, very fun! Now the other guitarists at work are planing on buying one!

Comments about Baby Taylor Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

Beautiful instrument and mine looks just like the picture, no flaws I could find. Setup out of the box is really well done with a much lower action than I expected. Tuners are good quality and it's easy to tune. The fret ends are finished off extremely well, not sharp in the least. The strings are nice also. Really quite fun and almost effortless to play, addicting even. The neck width feels like my electrics and it's not hard to switch back and forth, the neck is a bit chunky in depth with a v-shape though. I like that there's no heel at the neck/body joint. Great sustain and a unique resonance that seems to emphasize sympathetic vibration and harmonics. Perfect for doodling on the couch, great for finger exercises, scales, and open chords. Feels a bit fragile at first, but that will pass. The gig bag is quite nice also. This is a great price point and it feels and sounds like it should cost more. I would have to buy another one if somehow I lost it. The only minor nit is that the body finish is somewhat rough like it missed a final rubdown or something. The neck finish is perfect.

Comments about Baby Taylor Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar to travel with. It's a beautiful guitar. However, it's tone was a little higher than I wanted because of it's size so I traded up to a 3/4 size Taylor. Really nice guitar.

Comments about Baby Taylor Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

We were touched to have a missionary family from the Philippines that had a young in year old daughter who was quite special with her guitar talent but the guitar she had was not made to hold a tune. So i turned to the Baby Taylor to have great size, great tone, and yes it plays greatly in tune. I am so excited that she will be able to Praise the Lord and play her songs while making joyful music to listening to as she sings with her beautiful voice. This guitar is great for all players but the size will be great for players with smaller hands and younger hands that can start rocking at a young age.

Great Instrument and of course the guys at MF hooked me up with a great deal

Comments about Baby Taylor Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I moved, needed to replace my travel beater that I sold before I moved. A buddy of mine had one of these and he loved it, I've always liked Taylors, and for a little more than buying a used beater on Craigslist, I got this, brand new, with a high quality gig bag, shipped to my doorstep. This guitar has a great tone, needed no setup, and the first comment from someone I showed it to was a compliment on its mahogany finish...

Great craftsmanship, good price...love the Mohogany top! I play the Big Baby Taylor at home and travel with the BT2 so I always have that similar feel from both guitars. It is great how the neck is secured.....you can get way up on the 12 fret.....Highly recommend it!Plus I use Elixier strings and the Taylors come with them so no string change to deal with.....
