Overview

Conceived as a starter guitar for kids, the lovable Baby Taylor has maintained its enduring appeal in part by being a legitimate musical instrument that anyone can enjoy. The three-quarter-size Dreadnought helped touring musicians like Taylor Swift sketch new musical ideas on the road, and it's been a reliable musical accomplice for travelers seeking inspiration while trekking the world. All Baby Taylor models ship with a durable travel-worthy gig bag made by Taylor for optimal fit and protection.

Tone Woods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. The arched back of the guitar generates more sound from a small-bodied instrument, and using layered wood back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

I went to my local GC a month ago and in the acoustic room, overheard a guy playing a mini-guitar. I thought it was neat and sounded great! I imagined how I could play it everywhere.... on the couch, riding in the car, at the beach, etc etc. The guy was talking to the employee and I overheard the price. For a Taylor? The guy kept playing it and I wanted him to put it down, as I learned it was the last one left in the store. Long story short, he put it down and left... I bought it after playing and falling in love with it. The employee told my wife that out of all my guitars, it would be the one she would be seeing the most of. He was right. I play it all the time and love it. Sure, I have a full-sized D16GT Martin but this baby Taylor is FUN!! The sound is great, its durable, stays in tune and if you have kids, a great idea! REEAALLY happy with this guitar.

I do not like to slam any guitar maker or product. And in as much as I have enjoyed playing my baby Taylor. In all my years of playing and owning dozens of guitars I have had only one guitar, my Baby Taylor which repeatedly came apart. The first time body came apart from the sides. Taylor determined it was a defect it was insufficiently glued and not user issue. Hey replaced the body. The next Baby Taylor?s top came apart at the glue seam from the bridge to the back of the guitar. Upon examining it I realized that it was not properly glued there was almost no glue in the seam. Taylor determined that the guitar was not kept in a room with at least 40% humidity and told me the issue was low humidity. I tried to explain that it is stored in a humidified house with multiple other instruments some from the 1920s on to recent and multiple brands and the only guitar affected was the Taylor. The gentleman in the Warranty Department asked me for two hundred dollars for a new body. I asked if they would repair it and was told ?it is not worth repairing? we just replace the body? at your cost. I tried to reason with them and asked them to look at the seam but they would not budge. I think Taylor does a great job of advertizing and promoting its instruments they look good and both my Baby Taylors sounded good although the intonation was never quite right. In my opinion they do not stand up and Taylor does not stand behind their guitars, unless of course you are a high profile artist. I can not imagine how they can consider this a travel guitar when the seams come apart so readily. I do not know how the other models are made but I would never buy another Baby Taylor and after my experience with the customer service I would never buy any Taylor.

Good quality??

By MARK

from Azusa, Ca

Comments about Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I bought one from Guitar Center about a year and a half ago, after returning the GS Mini I had picked up a week prior. The GS Mini had buzzing all up and down the neck, and couldn't be rectified even after adjusting the neck. Frets were up and down all over. It was pretty tough to play. So, I too it back and downsized to this guitar, the Baby Taylor. It was ok for a while. It too developed buzzing all over from the 1st to the 5th fret. These Taylor guitars seem to have pretty bad fret jobs. Guitar was kept in its soft case when not in use, in a closet, so it was protected from drying out and humidity fluctuations. So, ended up staying in the closet for the last year and a half or so. The other day, I decided to grab something that I would enjoy playing and went with a lower end guitar...a Gretsch G9500. It's a little parlor guitar, and for 150 bucks, Gretsch can mfg a guitar that has really good frets and action right out of the box. Why can't Taylor do the same? Shame on Taylor for putting out inferior products. Even many of their high end instruments are not very playable in the GC demo room. I can understand action being a little high perhaps from the factory to allow for the consumer to have it set up the way he wants, but when you have the action lowered to a respectable height, fret issues become glaringly obvious. Maybe 1 out of 10 Taylors now even feels semi ok in store. Taylor really needs to step it up in the quality dept with much cheaper guitars on the market now with far better quality.

Comments about Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I ordered this guitar over the phone with the Guitar Center. The customer service was perfect and my guitar was shipped out within a matter of hours. It arrived within two days of shipment with a very cool Taylor gig bag and in perfect condition. The guitar looks and plays great. Very good quality and surprisingly nice sound for a little guitar like this. Love it!

Pretty darn nice guitar

By Steve Walton

from Colwyn, PA

Comments about Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I will be flying to Mexico, but didn't want to spend over 100 bucks to have my full sized guitar sent to the luggage compartment in a jet, and run the risk of it being damaged or stolen. I went in seach of a travel guitar. I looked at a few at Guitar Center in Wilmington Delaware. I have had a backpacker before, but wasn't too happy with the sound or the feel. Finally coming on the Baby Taylor. It sounded very close to my good Taylors, seemed ok as far as construction...played it for some time and finally bought it. Now, my fingers are a bit on the large size, so while it is a very nice guitar, it is a bit crowded on the fret board. Plus the neck is screwed on...which I'm not too thrilled about...still, it does sound good and with some practice, plays well. As I grew used to it, I have kept it in my living room so I can just grab it and play. And, I can take it on the jet with me. All in all, a pretty nice little jammer. Won't tell you it's my favorite of all my guitars, but it comes in close. Would have liked to give it 5 stars, but gave it 4. It is well worth the money. In closing, if you need a travel guitar, I suggest the Taylor Baby. I'll still take my full size Taylor to Linvilla to practice though! Good luck Kiddies!!

My baby taylor sounds great and is comfortable to play. I had my wife drive home from GC so I could play on the way home. It stays in tune and I haven't noticed any buzzing. Excellent look, feel, and sound for a reasonable price. It is the perfect size to pick up and go. The little gig bag is awesome too.

Comments about Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar:

I am happy for what i got 2 yrs ago, nicely crafted and set up! It's a sad thing because the ones that are displayed right now in GC are poor. Very high action, cheap electronics, Bridge not aligned to the neck/fret board. Even the $2k Taylor i tried was poorly set up ( not worth it for the price ). I think the quality of Baby Taylors are declining. Don't get me wrong, I love Taylor Guitars!
