Overview

The Taylor 816ce Grand Symphony is a cutaway acoustic-electric guitar that features the classic Sitka top and Indian rosewood back and sides that produce clarity, balance, sustain, excellent bass response, and wonderful coloration. The Taylor 816ce Grand Symphony is adorned with mother-of-pearl 800 series fingerboard inlays, maple binding, and an abalone rosette. Equipped with Taylor Expression System electronics and a Venetian cutaway that gives full fretboard access, the 816ce guitar has the tools to shine in any music venue.

Though you might see similarities to a Grand Auditorium, the Grand Symphony guitar is unique in both sound and shape. Significant changes in its geometry yield a deeper more piano-like bass. A wider lower bout and higher, wider waist return ample volume and low-end sustain in symphony with fuller mids and balanced highs.

Designed to faithfully reproduce your guitar's native tone, the Expression System utilizes patented Dynamic Sensors to capture top and string vibration like never before. Created in partnership with renowned audio pioneer, Rupert Neve, the Taylor ES is seamlessly integrated into the design of the guitar from the ground up. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally clean amplified sound.

The finish used to create the Taylor 816ce guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultraviolet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.

Great Guitar

By

from Saline, MI

Comments about Taylor 800 Series 816ce Grand Symphony Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have found the 816ce to be a great guitar, with the sound and playability I had been looking for. I've been playing for over 45 years and have owned a number of very good acoustic and electric guitars, and find the 816ce hits the sweet spot for my needs now. I had narrowed my search to a Taylor 814ce, the 816ce, and a Martin Performing Artist GPCPA1. Fortunately a GC near me had all three so I could do A/B comparisons. Even though the 816ce has medium strings compared to the lights on the 814ce, I found it very easy to play - as easy as the 814 to me (I'm use to medium gauge strings since I've had a Martin HD 28 for 17 years). I preferred the overall tonal balance of the 816 to the 814 and the GPCPA1. It had a bit better lower end than the 814, and a great overall clarity and balance, which I preferred to the Martin. I probably do mostly finger picking at this point, and have had no issues at all with the playability of the guitar. Great neck, action, and set-up straight from the factory. It's also a great "strummer" with plenty of volume when needed when not plugged in. With GC's 30 day return policy, I decided to buy the 816ce and took it home for a better "trial", with thoughts that I would perhaps return it for the 814ce or the GPCPA1. The more I played it, the more I loved the sound and playability, and any thoughts of returning it quickly disappeared. I have found the build quality to be excellent, and know that like my prior Martin, as long as I take care of it, it's value will be maintained for decades.

Balanced...playable...perfect

Comments about Taylor 800 Series 816ce Grand Symphony Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After purchasing the Taylor 314ce, I played a friend's 816ce...couldn't go back after that and traded up the next week. While many Taylors tend to be chimey, the rosewood and Grand Symphony shape really round this guitar out for an amazing, balanced sound. It's a lot of money...WAY more than I originally thought I would spend on a guitar...but for (hopefully) 20+ years of enjoyment I just couldn't put this one down. Classic easy to play taylor fretboard and a beautiful sound. I couldn't be happier.

The best guitar i've played

By

from Arlington, TX

Comments about Taylor 800 Series 816ce Grand Symphony Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been looking for a guitar that shines in a recording and has that big full professional tone. Well you know the old adage "you get what you pay for" this guitar exemplifies that. after a quick saddle sanding the string height was perfect and plays flawlessly. the tone is wonderful right from the factory and can only get better over time. i've mic'ed this with everything and i can't make it sound bad. the built in electronics are awesome and sound good by themselves. if you need a guitar that sounds like it's meant for professionally hollywood/nashville produced music then this is the absolute no brainer. i've played guitars costing twice this and didn't sound as good.

Amazing Guitar!

By

from Quartz Hill, Ca.

Comments about Taylor 800 Series 816ce Grand Symphony Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased my 816ce in December of 2009. I had tried many guitars and did extensive research before deciding on the Taylor 816ce. I had played a 816ce at another shop and fell in love with it. They would not work with me on price so I ordered one from GC. When it arrived I went down to pick it up and prayed that it would sound and play as nice as the one I had previously played. Within 5 minutes of playing I found it played and sounded even better then the one I had played. To my ear this has to be one of the most beautiful sounding guitars I have ever played. With 40 plus years of playing I have played my fair share of guitars and have to say this one is truly the best! It is hard to describe the sound. Lush and balanced come to mind. It has piano like highs and rich deep lows that are amazing. The action and playability on this guitar are nothing short of unbelievable! I have found that the 816ce can handle any style of music I choose to play. The build quality is of the highest caliber. I get compliments everywhere I play on how beautiful my guitar looks. I would highly recommend this beautiful instrument.

Comments about Taylor 800 Series 816ce Grand Symphony Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I picked up this guitar and the neck was so smooth and easy to move my fingers around. Then you start playing it and it sounds like a muse. This guitar is single handedly one of the greatest recording guitars AND playing guitars in history. It has beautiful tone, crafted gorgeously and is one of the greatest acoustic guitars of all time.

A must have

By

from Cincinnati, Ohio

Comments about Taylor 800 Series 816ce Grand Symphony Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a must have guitar. I have been playing for over 20 years and this is the best acoustic I have ever owned. I currently have a half dozen guitars in my studio and this is my baby. Mine is the tobacco finish, which I love. This instrument plays as good as it looks. I sold my Martin D28 for a Taylor 710ce and after trying the Taylor 816 it was a must have and the 710 was traded in. Play it and you will want it.
