Awesome acoustic!

By Mike Harris

from El Paso TX

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I traded a Martin 000C-16GTE for this guitar. I found the feel of the neck and the overall playability to be better than the Martin. I A/B'd this with a 214ce, and the difference in tone was huge. The 314 is definately the way to go. I have always felt that Taylors seem to sound and feel more "alive" than the Martins I have handled (all sub $2000 models) but I also felt that the Taylors are a too bright for my taste. However I was able to fix that issue completely by using Martin Clapton's Choice light strings. This brought the brighness under control and gave the guitar a richer fuller sound with more bottom end, and still clean crisp highs. I would not call the sound "warm", I would call it rich and full, with the aliveness of the Taylor sound, but without the over the top brightness the Elixers give them. I am totally satisfied with this guitar now, and view it as a big step up from the Martin both in playability, feel and tone. These comments apply to the unplugged sound of the guitar. I have not used the pickups much, but I think they sound pretty good. There are two switches inside the sound hole that change the pickup configuration/and tone. This was something I didn't know until I saw it on youtube. Figured I would pass it along here.

Great Guitar

By guitarhamster

from Houston, TX, USA

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar has a great Expression system. I've been playing 314ce for more than a year now. I've performed at churches and bars and the Expression system works like a charm. I bought the guitar for around $1,400 (when it's on sale), coming free with a case and an amp. I love it. The bridge is easy to shift and slide on, however, gets easily damaged. Never put a 314ce by a bed or lean it against a wall. It will scratch the neck. That's the only problem. As long as you be careful with the beauty, it's a great instrument with a great tone as long as you change the string every three to four months. You don't have to use the Elexir string that comes with it. I just use Martin strings. Work just the same and for a lot cheaper price.

New Best Friend

By Robert

from Temecula, CA

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing electric guitar for 30+ years; acoustics have never been my thing. However, I recently happened to read a number of reviews on the Taylor 314ce - mostly 5 out of five stars - so I decided to check it out for myself. In short, I held it, played it and couldn't leave the store without it. The reviews were spot on. In just the few days I've owned the 314ce, it has become my new best friend. The neck is nearly as fast and comfortable as any of my electrics. As for the tone, the highs are crisp, mids warm and complex, and the lows smooth. Amplified, the tones ring out with well defined clarity. And since it's solid wood, it will only get better and better. It isn't the fanciest acoustic out there, but abalone inlays have never contributed to tone. If you're in the market for an acoustic, buy this guitar. It's a no-nonsense instrument that will inspire you become the musician you want to be.

Road tested Review

By Pat

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar 10 months ago. It's a 2008 model. I've done close to 80 shows with it since. I don't like to review things the day after I buy them that's why I waited until now. Experience=Knowledge. This guitar plays & sounds great. Plugged in, it sounds really nice too, but the ES is MOODY! At times it crackles & pops. It also hums in certain clubs due to the sensitivity of the "active pickup" system. My 000 Martin has never given me those problems in ANY CLUB. My Martin has an under saddle pickup. I guess the ES that Taylor uses is really touchy when it comes to cell phones, same circuit compressors (fridge/AC), flourescent lights, neon lights etc.. Due to the annoying sounds the ES causes in most clubs, I'm reluctant to say that it's reliable. When it works problem free, IT SOUNDS INCREDIBLE, but it's too hit & miss. The ES is a GREAT concept and produces honest acoustic sound, but I think Taylor still needs to iron out the kinks with the new system. Overall, I love the guitar, but it's unfortunate that I'm going to have to take it to a TECH during the 1st year I've owned it. This is the single most expensive guitar that I own and I shouldn't have to get it serviced this soon. I hope to fix the sound system, but I'm dissapointed that it's an issue at all. I gave it a four because of the ES being problematic. Take away the ES problems and it would be 5 stars across the board.

Best guitar for the money

By thejumpmaster68

from Army guy in Korea

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own several guitars but had never spent more than 600 dollars on one. I was looking for "that guitar" that I would really love to play and I was willing to spend a few dollars for one that I was really proud of. As I began searching, playing everything that I could get my hands on, I kept coming right back to this Taylor. The sound just seems so right to my ears. It is well put together. It isn't anything flashy with lots of adornment, but it looks and feels really good. This is one guitar that I will never get rid of or feel like I can't take anywhere and be proud to play.

Beautiful long lasting guitar

By Le Bleu

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as soon as it got to stores. I've been playing it non-stop since then, and it cannot match any other guitars. I've tried playing other name brands and this one beat them. If you want to buy your first Taylor, make this one it.

Taylor Guitars-Awesome!

By Stoney

from Cranston, RI

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for 3 months now and love it. I think Taylor makes fantastic guitars. I settled on the 314-CE after playing many different makes and models. I always seemed to go back to the 314-CE because it was in my price range and it was just a very playable guitar. Plugged in it sounds great with the Expression System, but you loose nothing in sound playing unplugged. Looks, feel, sound, and quality of this guitar is fantastic! Spend the extra money and buy this guitar and you will be glad you did. With an instrument that sounds and plays like the Taylor 314-CE you will not want to put it down!

Most Amazing Guitar

By Big Bad Bob

from Vacaville, CA

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I can tell you this, this guitar makes me sound spectacular. The clarity of tone, resonance and overall sound is just simply flawless. I spent about four years looking for a guitar. I would play much higher end gutiars with no noticeable difference to me at least. The again I am a beginner but all my family are musically inclined and they are very particular about sound. I can not stop playing this instrument. It is the highlight of my day everyday to pick up this piece of art and I feel rather honored to play it. My music teacher is equally impresssed. If you are serious about playing, I don't see how you could go wrong with this guitar. But don't take my word please play a bunch before buying everyone is different as to what they like in sound but this is it for me. This guitar deserves more than five stars. Thanks for reading my review.

The honest truth.

By Michael

from OKC, OK

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I spent hours in Guitar Center trying to figure out which guitar to buy. I happily bought this one. Taylor guitars are just made in an amazing way. The reason I bought the 314 though, is because it adds the compression system which is a major jump from the 114 and 214. I'm sure anyone will tell ya though, Taylors sound amazing! Best option in my opinion.

A wonderful instrument

By Daniel Shapiro

from Sacramento, CA

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I decided it was time to replace my 1979 Takamine EF-340S (a Martin D-18 copy) as I came to despise the trebles and it's poor intonation. I first tried the Taylor 214ce and liked it's clear well defined treble tone but noticed it's bass response was weak. Then tried the 414ce which was too dark and woody. Then noticed the 314ce. BINGO! A perfect balance to my ear. I also had someone else play it while I stood in front and listened and I was sold. Plugged it into a Fishman amp and was blown away by the pickup system; none of that piezo whine - just amazing reproduction. By the way I took my Peterson pocket strobe tuner with me and was truly amazed. Never played an acoustic guitar that is so well intonated- I think this is a characteristic of all Taylor guitars. I love this guitar - it sounds so sweet. Craftsmanship is 1st class. I may lower the action just a tiny bit.

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

perfect for working musician - its tone is fantastic. The bass and treble are perfectly balanced plugged or unplugged - the expression system is simply the best. It does not have the fancy binding or inlays which is okay with me; I gig regularly and need a guitar that sound & plays great without costing a fortune. This is that guitar.

Unbeatable Tone - Easy Play

By PCHRIDER

from Laguna Hills, CA

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Sweet Tone with every note. Easy to play. Taylor made this ready to play right out of the box. They even shipped it tuned. I was looking for a Guitar that was comfortable to play and had recordable tone. I did hours and hours of playing different guitars, from Martins to Gibsons. I knew I found what I wanted soon as I played this guitar. This guitar grew on me in a matter of minutes. My search was over. I find it sounding better and better ever time I play it. I made the correct choice in buying the 314CE. Thank you to Guitar Center for letting me spend hours playing all those different guitars before making my new friend a Taylor. It has it all from electronics to top of the line hard case. IS THAT ME SOUNDING THAT GOOD OR IS IT A TAYLOR!

My Favorite Guitar

By MetalBrubeck

from Vancouver, WA

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The Taylor 314ce has quickly become my favorite guitar. The neck on this plays amazingly well. The action is perfect. The tone is rich, defined and punchy. The Taylor Expression System sounds better than most conventional mics for recording and performance. I compared this side by side with a Gibson Songwriter, a Taylor 714ce, and every other acoustic in my local GC, and this guitar just stood out with the tone, look, and feel that I wanted, not to mention the price. I have not touched any of my other acoustics since I brought this home. If you have the money get this, there's no reason to settle for less than the best.

By Valcoren

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The sound this guitar is able to produce is just amazing. I enjoy playing it every day. It is truly top shelf quality, and great for finger picking. It is not the first guitar you should buy if you are a newbie, but once you know you are going to be a guitar player for the rest of your life. It is great for your first Taylor guitar.

Love how it sounds

By dave48

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After a year with a training guitar my brother suggested I buy a high end guitar like a Taylor. I've had the 314CE about four months. I love how it sounds, the way it feels and the fret board. Well worth the money. A great sounding guitar.

Great Guitar

By Rudy

from El Paso, Texas

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

It has been 1 yr. and 1 month that I have owned My Taylor 314. This guitar holds up to Gibsons and Martins (I own both). The picture does not do justice as to how nice looking it is. It is well made and the ES system sounds incredible when plugged in. The feel of the neck is just right and strapped on it is well balanced when standing. This guitar is a keeper. For the price you cannot beat it.

Taylor quality and sound is hard to beat

By Wil

from Clearlake , TX

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have played guitar for 30 years. Nothing major but just for fun after a high school band director taught a class so he could learn as well. I had a Yamaha acoustic for years and several months ago a friend big on Taylor's talked me into a Big Baby Taylor. It sounded great and I liked it so much I traded up to the 314! The electronics are great, sound really good and crisp and the guitar is everything I thought it would be. I played Martins, Breedlove, other mid priced models and nothing compared, in my opinion to Taylor. Don't think about it! Get it! You will love it.

Taylor 314ce = Excellent Quality

By JPH

from Weirton, WV

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my second review for this guitar. I've owned it nearly 2 years & have done over 150 gigs with it. It is a beautiful guitar in the looks & tone department. I had one minor issue during the 1st year with the input jack. It was replaced under warranty & it's been smooth sailing ever since. I love the simplicity of the expression system. 3 knobs that's it! Bass, Treble, & Volume. No sliders to worry about static sounds. Just 3 smooth, silent knobs. It's a great design. The playibility is 2nd to NONE. I definitely recommend the Taylor 314ce for any musician that wants a great looking, great sounding, & reliable guitar!
