The Taylor 314-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a beautiful classic that sings loud and proud but nestles easily on your knee. Solid Sitka spruce top for that famous Taylor wide-open tone slightly darkened by sapele back and sides. Gorgeous ebony bridge and fretboard, black binding, and satin finish with a gloss top make it a striking presence onstage. The Expression System electronics with Dynamic Sensors and tone controls capture top and string vibration like never before.

Up to this point my only acoustic guitar had been a Takamine G Series, and it has served me well. But I decided I wanted a quality all wood acoustic. After doing a lot of research on Martin, Gibson and Taylor I decided the best way to decide would be to try them out. I spent a lot of time playing guitars in the same price range as the 314ce but was continually drawn back based on sound quality and overall playability. Martin and Gibson make some fantastic guitars but the Taylor sang in a way that other guitars didn't. If you're looking to buy a Taylor, I would recommend spending the extra dough and buying at least a 300 series model. It's the lowest series made 100% out of wood and 100% in America. The 100 and 200 series are good, but let's face it if you're willing to spend $1000 dollars on a guitar why not pay the extra money and get the added quality in material and on board electronics.
I've had the guitar for about a month and it's exactly what i was hoping for. I first played a Taylor in Sam Ash in NYC and since then i've covetted and desired one for myself. I've always been an electric player but have been doing acoustic duets and decided it was time to get a good acoustic. I tried a lot of different guitars and most sounded and felt dead to me. I kept coming back to this one --> felt great in my hands, amazing sound, comfortable body. I am incredibly pleased with the sound and pleased with the purchase.
I have owned lots of guitars in my day. The Taylor 314ce has the most incredible sound I've ever heard. Sharp crisp highs and resenating lows. I love this guitar for its quality and playability. I played my new Taylor 314ce, which I purchased at Guitar Center in Pensacola, Florida, for the first time over a Bose L1 Compact system. The combination of the Taylor Guitar and Bose L1 Compact was so amazing,..... I bought them both. Thanks for the great deal to my new friends at Guitar Center. I'll be back!
As a seasoned mature player, I have owned this guitar for several years. I have been very pleased with every aspect of the instrument. It encompasses excellent clarity with broad tonal range which is very balanced. The action on my neck is set low and the instrument has maintained its set points for many seasons now. When I purchased this instrument, I allowed several hours in the music shop to compare it with all top names. It easily goes neck and neck with Martin for its playability and tonal range. You will not be displeased with this one! Reminder to the purchasers...don't forget to periodically change the AA Battery to prevent any corrosion to the electronic system from batteries which leak over time. In my book this is easily a 5 star instrument. I pair it with a Genz Benz stereo acoustic amplifier.
I USUALLY DON'T DO REVIEWS, BUT I COULDN'T HOLD BACK ON THIS ONE. I'VE HAD MY 314 GOING ON TWO YEARS AND HAVE PERFORMED WITH IT 2-3 TIMES A WEEK SINCE AND ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! THE SOUND AND PLAYABILITY OF THIS GUITAR IS SECOND TO NONE, JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER. IT SOUNDS THE SAME WHETHER PLUGGED IN OR NOT. I JUST CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS GUITAR. IT MAY NOT BE AS "PRETTY" AS SOME OF THE OTHER TAYLOR MODELS, BUT THE SOUND IS THERE.
This is my second review for this guitar. I've owned it nearly 2 years & have done over 150 gigs with it. It is a beautiful guitar in the looks & tone department. I had one minor issue during the 1st year with the input jack. It was replaced under warranty & it's been smooth sailing ever since. I love the simplicity of the expression system. 3 knobs that's it! Bass, Treble, & Volume. No sliders to worry about static sounds. Just 3 smooth, silent knobs. It's a great design. The playibility is 2nd to NONE. I definitely recommend the Taylor 314ce for any musician that wants a great looking, great sounding, & reliable guitar!
I decided it was time to replace my 1979 Takamine EF-340S (a Martin D-18 copy) as I came to despise the trebles and it's poor intonation. I first tried the Taylor 214ce and liked it's clear well defined treble tone but noticed it's bass response was weak. Then tried the 414ce which was too dark and woody. Then noticed the 314ce. BINGO! A perfect balance to my ear. I also had someone else play it while I stood in front and listened and I was sold. Plugged it into a Fishman amp and was blown away by the pickup system; none of that piezo whine - just amazing reproduction. By the way I took my Peterson pocket strobe tuner with me and was truly amazed. Never played an acoustic guitar that is so well intonated- I think this is a characteristic of all Taylor guitars. I love this guitar - it sounds so sweet. Craftsmanship is 1st class. I may lower the action just a tiny bit.
I have played guitar for 30 years. Nothing major but just for fun after a high school band director taught a class so he could learn as well. I had a Yamaha acoustic for years and several months ago a friend big on Taylor's talked me into a Big Baby Taylor. It sounded great and I liked it so much I traded up to the 314! The electronics are great, sound really good and crisp and the guitar is everything I thought it would be. I played Martins, Breedlove, other mid priced models and nothing compared, in my opinion to Taylor. Don't think about it! Get it! You will love it.
It has been 1 yr. and 1 month that I have owned My Taylor 314. This guitar holds up to Gibsons and Martins (I own both). The picture does not do justice as to how nice looking it is. It is well made and the ES system sounds incredible when plugged in. The feel of the neck is just right and strapped on it is well balanced when standing. This guitar is a keeper. For the price you cannot beat it.
I spent hours in Guitar Center trying to figure out which guitar to buy. I happily bought this one. Taylor guitars are just made in an amazing way. The reason I bought the 314 though, is because it adds the compression system which is a major jump from the 114 and 214. I'm sure anyone will tell ya though, Taylors sound amazing! Best option in my opinion.
