Striking blackheart sassafras back and sides are paired with a Sitka spruce top give the 2014 Fall Limited 714ce-FLTD cutaway Grand Auditorium a truly unique look, along with a voice that responds well to the nuances of the player. The tone profile of sassafras yields a mix of low-end warmth, woodiness, and focus with treble sparkle, and responds well to each player' individual style. The chameleon-like properties of the woods, plus Taylor's Advanced Performance bracing, together add even greater breadth to the versatile Grand Auditorium body, making this a guitar that will respond well to nearly every type of player. The appointment package includes rosewood binding and back strip, rosewood top edge trim, an abalone rosette outlined in rosewood, mother-of-pearl Heritage Diamond fretboard inlays, and a pickguard-free top. The guitar features a Venetian cutaway and Expression System 2 acoustic electronics, and ships in a Taylor deluxe hardshell case.
Blackheart sassafras is an exotically beautiful variation on the more common sassafras tree that' native to Tasmania. The œblackheart distinction refers to dark, dramatic striping in the otherwise blond-colored wood, which is caused by fungi that form in the heartwood of the tree. Its tonal properties give it a truly unique sonic personality compared to other tonewoods. It blends some of the dry, woody response of walnut or mahogany; the note separation and focus of maple or myrtle; and the top-end overtones of rosewood.
Taylor's most popular and versatile body shape, the mid-size Grand Auditorium arrived in 1994 bearing refined proportions that fell between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert. While the bigger Dreadnought was traditionally considered a flatpicker' guitar and the smaller Grand Concert catered to fingerstylists, the GA was designed to deliver on both fronts. The shape produced an original acoustic voice that was big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming, yet with impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The GA' overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage, and singer-songwriters have embraced its utility both for composing and traveling with one guitar. Many people want a single guitar that can cover a variety of styles, which is why the GA continues to be Taylor's bestselling shape. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the multi-dimensional GA won™t let you down.
