Overview

Like the 200 Series, the 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar incorporates laminate back and sides, which offer extra resilience to fluctuating climate conditions, and a slightly narrower 1-11/16-inch neck. It's one of the best full-size guitars you'll find for the money, especially with the availability of Taylor's ES-T pickup. It makes a viable performance tool, a great entry-level guitar, or a second utility guitar for alternate tunings.

Tonewood
As a guitar soundboard, or top, Sitka spruce is the tonewood standard of the modern era. It's used on 85-90 percent of the guitars that Taylor makes. Its combination of strength and elasticity translates into a broad dynamic range, yielding crisp articulation and allowing for everything from aggressive strumming and flatpicking to fingerpicking. Sitka spruce is Bob Taylor's personal favorite for an all-around great guitar.

Grand Auditorium (GA)
The GA is Taylor's most versatile and popular shape, excelling at light-touch fingerstyle to full-blown strumming. Great for mic'ing and recording, the GA's balanced mid-range and bright tone exemplify the Taylor voice.

Taylor ES-T
Devloped by the same Taylor team that invented the Expression System pickup, the Taylor ES-T Under-Saddle Transducer takes piezo technology to another level. Optimized for the 100 and 200 Series, the system features onboard Bass, Treble, and Volume controls plus custom-voiced EQ and dynamic response.

Includes gig bag.

This guitar is amazing. Everything about it; looks, playability, and the SOUND! Honestly this guitar might be the best bang for your buck right now. The sound is more on the bright side, but if you want a warmer and deep tone when you plug in, just turn down the treble a tad and turn up the bass. This guitar is great for all styles and I don't see a need to upgrade later in the future because this thing truly delivers everything I want and need.

My main issue with this guitar is the top and the very light coating of the Polymer Finish. This is not a durable guitar the way it is constructed. If you pick and play it hard be concerned about what you will do to the Sapele Laminate. My second issue is when I reached out to Taylor they told me to go see a repair specialist. When I posted what the specialist said about their Polymer finish on the 100 & 200 models they removed my post from Facebook. If you are a strummer I would get a Martin or a Taylor with a lacquer finish.

Comments about Taylor 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing in bands for 30+ years, played many guitars through the years and the Taylor has been the most outstanding acoustic that I've owned. It has a great rich tone, easy playing fret board, and really stays in tune. For the money, I'd say try one. I know you get what you pay for but this truly is nice.

    Great Guitar

Comments about Taylor 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I spent about 3 hours at Guitar Center playing different guitars the day I bought my 114ce. I played the 214ce and the 214ce Deluxe and wasn't that impressed. The 214ce Deluxe had a great sound but it didn't feel as smooth as I was expecting. I have been playing nylon string guitar for many years so I like guitars that are easy on the left hand. The 300 series was incredible but it was a bit too high for my budget. After playing the 114ce a couple of times I realized it was a lot easier to play and had a more powerful sound than the 24ce and 24ce deluxe. So without thinking it twice I bought the 14ce and I am really happy with it so far.

Enjoyable, but maybe not best in class

    By Dennisio

    from Summerhill, PA

    Pros

    • Bright Sound
    • Durable feel
    • GOOD PROJECTION
    • Great Action As Received
    • Solid
    • Takes Hard Playing

    Cons

    • Possibly Overpriced

    Best Uses

    • Very Good All Around

Comments about Taylor 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got a scratch and dent price. I could not find any scratches and dents. Action was perfect as received and still is without adjustment.

This Taylor has a neck slightly narrower than other acoustic brands. The neck is very comfortable and still playable by a fat-fingered rhythm hack like me. The 114ce also puts up with my hard style without flinching, no damage and still feels solid after I get on it repeatedly.

I am not sure if this guitar is best in its price range, but it is worth a look. It has a bright, full sound and feels comfortable and balanced.

I would give four and a half stars if that option was available.

Comments about Taylor 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Mine arrived with a slightly bowed neck, creating some buzzing of strings when played moderately vigorously. Local Taylor repair shop straightened neck under warranty (don't forget to register your new guitar with Taylor!). Even after I requested to have them lower the action slightly, no buzzing now, and sounds and plays beautifully. Overall, great value for the price. I'd also recommend calling MW directly so they can maximize any coupons/discounts that might exist. That saved me some $$. Thanks, MW!

Comments about Taylor 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar! It sounds bright, and loud, making it great for times when I'm performing but cannot plug in. Sometimes its too loud when I practice, so I have to make sure that I control myself and play a bit quieter. Big improvement from the Fender Dreadnought that I used to own.

Comments about Taylor 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Okay I bought this guitar 4 years ago. At first of course I was in love with it, but then after switching the strings to medium heavy strings. I ruined the shims that are inside the guitar. Is it my fault? well I guess it is, but then again I paid almost a grand for this guitar and you bet I read the instructions and it never said anything about the gauge of the strings. Maybe that slipped on me but my friend has a Martin and he switches gauges all the time and his guitar is fine. Also this guitar must be in a controlled environment (not too dry, or too humid) keep that in mind because it will definitely affect the guitar in really annoying ways. unlike other guitars you can't adjust the bracing on this thing on your own. I did but then again the shims are ruined and readjusting it only help a little. my point is this guitar play terrible now. The action is super high, but that is not the thing that bothers me the most. The things that bothers me the most is that I bought an epiphone p300 (I don't remember the exact model of the top of my head) and it sounds almost as good as the taylor but I paid one Benjamin for the epiphone... just really do your research before buying this. The guitar looks great which I think is what sells most people into buying it, but if you listen you will see that a martin sounds much better. I would definitely buy a martin instead of any taylor because they are so hard to fix on your own.

Comments about Taylor 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

40 years of playing guitar, and I have never owned a "quality" acoustic. I figured it was time, so I went out shopping, willing and ready to spend around $1500. But when I picked up the 114-CE, I knew she was "the one" -- -- her sound is bright, with just enough bass, each note articulate whether strumming hard, soft or in-between. I am VERY happy with the 114-CE - and now I have all this extra cash to spend on some other toys!!

This guitar has an awesome bright sounds. Before I purchased it I watched a youtube video comparing the 114ce and 214ce, and I actually liked the 114ce sound better and so did most of the people commenting on the video.

I've had a few friends try my 114ce out and it inspired them to want to look for a new guitar for themselves.

Comments about Taylor 100 Series 114ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I received this guitar as a gift. I wanted a good quality back up guitar. However the more that I play this the more I really like it. The neck is outstanding. People have said that Taylor's play like an electric and after spending some time with it I would definitely agree. I can play barre chords higher up on the neck with no difficulty at all. I am amazed that a laminate guitar can sound this good. Every note is clear and crisp. It stands up to heavy strumming but also articulates each note wonderfully when finger picked. I did a bit of research and found out that this "Mexican" guitar is made about a 40 minutes drive from the main U.S plant so quality control is taken seriously. If you are looking for a quality guitar that will stand up the constant changes in humidity that playing out will bring to a wooden instrument I highly recommend that you consider this guitar.
