Taylor T5 Standard Acoustic-Electric Guitar with Maple Top (514160)
Availability:

Stunning acoustic-electric tones and the bright punch of a maple top.

This is the T5 Standard Guitar upgraded by Taylor with a beautiful figured maple top, chrome hardware, and microdot fretboard inlays.

A resonant, fully hollow thinline body is the backbone of the Taylor T5. Its comfort and playability is unquestionable, with the performance freedom of a solidbody and the feel and sound of a beloved Taylor acoustic. Whether played through an electric or acoustic amp, the T5 delivers a fantastic range of pure tones from smooth, strumming acoustic to crunchy electric chords.

Electronics include a unique 5-way pickup system composed of a magnetic acoustic humbucker, magnetic electric humbucker, and a single Dynamic Body Sensor soundboard pickup, as well as a preamp system for mixing up the exact tone you need. Full binding, bone nut and saddle, stylized f-holes, a mahogany neck, sapele body, and an ebony fretboard and headstock overlay are standard on the Taylor T5 guitar.

  • Nice Guitar But........!

As reviewed by Rick Kelley on 6/24/2011

I purchased this particular T5 last year and have really enjoyed the tone and quality - based upon nothing else to compare it to however. I live in an adjoining state where these guitars are made mine, however, was shipped, I believe, from somewhere farther away (Midwest?). Apparently due to lack of humidity in transport my guitar had tonal issues that required me to take it to a qualified service store for adjusting, etc. Taylor paid for the service but I had to pay for the new strings. Humidity issues regarding acoustic guitars (this guitar no exception), the T5 requires (according to Taylor)a constant humidity of give or take 50%. Therefore, I purchased two, so called, humidifiers (Dampit and Oasis) to place in my guitar case. Long story short, they are at the bottom limit of "adequate." It would seem that guitar makers and Taylor in particular somehow forget to provide a customer with an adequate means to humidify their new guitar. As far as I know there is no humidifier designed specifically for the T5. Why not! If humidity is so important why wouldn't Taylor provide along with their guitar a more than adequate means to humidify their guitars? Why not make a guitar case that is designed to accommodate such a humidifier? I have a great deal of respect for the quality of guitars make by Bob Taylor but he fell way short regarding after market care for his acoustic creations (mainly the T5). Humidifiers simply do not provide adequate all round moisture for guitars. Humidifiers lose their humidifying "potency" or effect exponentially as the distance increases from one end of the guitar case to the other. Thereby, causing excessive humidity close to the humidifier to a point farther away that simply does not provide the needed humidity necessary (in the case) for the guitar. Very disappointing for a manufacture of a quality guitar to ignore.

  • Great all around axe

As reviewed by jammintex on 6/11/2007

My eye fell for the T-5 before my fingers. One of the best looking guitar I have owned and I have had many. After I picked it up and played it I found one of the easyest playing accoustic guitar I've played. Then I pluged it in. If you need an all around guitar this is it if you have the green. It's a great sounding electric " with the right amp or a P.A." and sounds just as great unpluged. But it's the playing action that sold me.SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOth

  • My preference of the T5 line

As reviewed by Bob on 9/1/2006

A friend of mine owns the T5 Custom with a Koa top, but I actually prefer this one. Most of the specs are exactly the same, the primary difference simply being that this T5 has a Maple top and is essentially the standard acoustic-electric of the Taylor T5 line. Both models come with a hard case and the standard Taylor package? from that great sound to a subscription to their company publication. Taylor likes to mix up their electric stuff, and this isn?t much different. It has their own pickups, and they place the dials on the top. The guitar itself is great. It?s a thin, well-balanced guitar that actually compares quite favorably to the sounds found in a larger hollow bodied acoustic. Because of the price, my friend primarily uses his for playing at his house or when he has a gig. The guitar does not make casual trips from house to house. It would make a great investment, but it definitely isn?t for the beginner.
