Premium woods meet advanced design in this big-sounding Taylor.

The Taylor GC8 grand concert guitar has volume that belies its size. The slotted peghead and short-scale neck deliver a more "woody" tone and an unbelievably easy feel on the fretboard. The clarity, balance, sustain, excellent bass response, and wonderful coloration of the India Rosewood back and sides of the GC8 is without equal. When paired with solid Sitka spruce top, it is an unstoppable tonal combination. Other features of the GC8 acoustic include an ivoroid bound neck and body, Indian rosewood headstock overlay, abalone rosette and fretboard dots, and a traditional slotted peghead.

Because of its smaller size, the Taylor GC8 Grand Concert is a curvy and comfortable, "intimate" guitar—something to wrap oneself around. Its clarity, balanced response, scaled-down proportions, and scalloped bracing make it ideal for fingerstyle playing. Stage performers appreciate its body-friendly size and contours, and those who work in the recording studio love its controlled overtones.

  • Just A Perfect Guitar

As reviewed by BL on 5/16/2010

I have a Martin HD-28 and a Taylor 814 CE. The GC8 is not like either. The sound is crisp and bright but without a great deal of bass or volume of the hd28 or 814ce. I purchased the guitar for intimate personal use and it fills the bill perfectly. The GC8 is a beautiful guitar with a very comfortable size and I love the looks of the slotted head. Although I have strummed the guitar with a pick playing an assortment of songs, I prefer to fingerpick with it most of all. This is my go-to guitar when I'm home and just want to relax, think, and play. I used to have a classical guitar for this use but the GC 8 gave me the sound and comfortable size but with the steel strings that I prefer on a 1 3/4" nut. I love this guitar and I am considering purchasing another for the road. My disappointment is the Taylor guitar case. The tolex seams are separating and pealing and for the price I expect better than what I got. But, I don't play the case so I'll give the guitar 5 stars. Add this guitar to your collection.

  • Outstanding Guitar

As reviewed by Andy on 2/11/2008

I am not a highly experienced player who can necessarily discern subtle variances in tone or construction like more experienced and fanatical enthusiasts. However, this is my second Taylor guitar and I absolutely love it. [1] I am a smaller person and the body of the concert model is perfect and comfortable. I have noticed that I remain more comfortable for longer durations as compared to my Taylor 314 (auditorium). [2] The volume, tonal quality and clarity are surprising for a smaller body guitar (probably the best point of this guitar). [3] The styling is great. It has some serious extras at the price point, including vintage looking hardware, some inlays, etc.

  • Love the sound

As reviewed by gloria on 8/3/2010

The GC8 is a perfect size for those under 6 foot tall. The size, style and sound allows the guitar to become an expression of you and you can become one. This instrument makes me want to play because of it's mellow intimate smooth warm sounds.
