      Taylor 816ce Rosewood/Spruce Grand Symphony Acoustic-Electric Guitar (107441412)

A premium instrument with a Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and Taylor Expression System electronics.

Taylor's second offering in Indian rosewood, the 800 Series traces its roots to the earliest Taylors. Bob’s latest design changes speak of traditional lutherie in the form of hand-set, curly maple binding. It’s a gorgeous upgrade that complements the beautiful hues of rosewood and sparkling inlay work. For many, the 800 Series is a true Taylor icon. The 816ce Rosewood/Spruce Grand Symphony Acoustic-Electric Guitar with its Sitka/rosewood combo casts a commanding presence as a GS. A cutaway and the Taylor ES prime it for every type of playing.

Indian Rosewood/Sitka
Indian rosewood seems as if it was created to be on a guitar. The clarity, balance, sustain, excellent bass response, and wonderful coloration and figure are without equal. Paired with Sitka spruce, it is an unstoppable combination.

Grand Symphony (GS)
Though you might see similarities to a Grand Auditorium, the GS is unique in both sound and shape. Significant changes in its geometry yield a deeper, more piano-like bass. A wider lower bout and higher, wider waist return ample volume and low-end sustain, in symphony with fuller mids and balanced highs.

Expression System®
Using proprietary pickup technology developed at Taylor, the Expression System® amplifies your guitar with an unrivaled, natural live sound. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally-clean amplified sound. It’s your tone. Amplified.

The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultraviolet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes. Available in natural finish.

  • Taylor 816ce Rosewood/Spruce Grand Symphony

As reviewed by Eric Teitelman on 11/7/2013

I was looking for a new guitar in 2008, and Taylor had just released this new GS model. I am a heavy lead rhythm strummer, so I needed a larger bodied guitar. I have always been a huge fan of Rosewood and Sitka Spruce guitars for their rich sound. I found one at a Guitar Center, and right from the beginning the sound was amazing; even unplugged. But one thing I have to say is that after five years of playing this guitar, the sound today is remarkably better than it was back then. The wood has aged and mellowed, and the notes that come out of the guitar today leave me breathless. Wow! I have other guitars; Martin and Larrivee, but this guitar just blows everything else away. Great job Taylor. Love your guitars!

  • Awesome!!!

As reviewed by ROBERT SPRING on 5/16/2012

Awesome guitar. The fit, finish and quality is second to none I've played Martin and Ovation and this thing sounds so much better. I was so impressed with the sound unplugged but was even more so when playing it plugged in. The rosewood gives a much deeper, richer tone. My old guitar would always "pop" when plugged into the church sound system. With the Taylor Expression system, I had to check to see if the sound system was on after I plugged in as there is no sounds at all (and I use the expensive monster cord in both cases). Excellent instrument and a testament to Taylor quality!

  • Absolutely love this guitar!

As reviewed by Bill Shaw on 1/9/2013

Bought this as an early Christmas present to myself, so I have had it about a month now. I had narrowed down my search to a few Martin's, being mostly bluegrass and folk player. I was at my local Guitar Center with a buddy of mine and he picked up a Taylor 814ce and an 816ce to play in the sound room. I could not believe the sound. I played both and we both agreed the 816ce had the best sound and even beat out Martin's in the same price range. The next Martin I found that came even close was about $800 more with no electric pickup. So the choice was easy for me. For my ear and style I play, this was the perfect guitar. It has very rich deep lows, excellent tone on through the mids, and sharp crisp highs. Excellent craftsmanship, fit, and finish. Neck fits the hand perfectly and is extremely smooth offering quick movement up and down the neck. There is nothing I can say negative about this guitar! Do yourself a favor and at least test one out when looking for your next acoustic/electric. I am glad my buddy picked one up and started playing.
