Gorgeous appointments with the complex timbre of solid spruce and rosewood.

The Taylor 814ce Rosewood/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar gives you amazingly warm, deep sound. Solid Indian rosewood back and sides sharpen the rich overtones and dark humors of the solid Sitka spruce top for a tonal palette of stunning breadth. The model brings new mother-of-pearl inlays on the bound ebony fretboard, as well as the familar abalone rosette, 5-ply purfling with maple binding, abalone peg inlays, and gold-plated Taylor tuners with gold buttons that impart luxurious visual splendor. Expression System electronics are on board for peerless stage performance.

Indian Rosewood/Sitka
Indian rosewood seems as if it was created to be on a guitar. The clarity, balance, sustain, excellent bass response, and wonderful coloration and figure are without equal. Paired with Sitka spruce, it is an unstoppable combination.

Grand Auditorium (GA)
The GA is Taylor's most versatile and popular shape, excelling at light-touch fingerstyle to full-blown strumming. Great for mic'ing and recording, the GA's balanced mid-range and bright tone exemplify the Taylor voice.

Expression System
Using proprietary pickup technology developed at Taylor, the Expression System amplifies your guitar with an unrivaled, natural live sound. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally-clean amplified sound. It's your tone. Amplified.

The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold checking. This ultraviolet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes. Available in natural finish.

  • Taylors Flagship Model.. For a reason!

As reviewed by Sam Lung on 5/16/2012

I'm an active musician who needed a new high-end guitar to record and gig with. After playing a few Martins and Gibsons, nothing came close to the tone range and playability of the Taylor 814ce. The Taylor 814ce is a very popular high-end acoustic guitar for very many reasons. The solid sitka spruce top combined with the rosewood sides gives it the iconic clear, and crisp "Taylor" tone. The bass is smooth, ringing, and pairs great with the highs the guitar produces, and the it gets even better with Taylors expression system. These sensors give you amazing tone and clarity when playing live or just picking around. The Taylor 814ce also features luxurious crown inlays paired with Maple binding for elegant looks. Easily a favorite.

  • Taylor 814ce + So beautiful and sounds great

As reviewed by Peter on 12/15/2014

In the store I had side by side this Taylor 814ce and a Gibson J-165 EC. Took me a couple hours to decide, but I chose the Taylor. No regrets! The Gibson was a little less money, I did not like the bulky electronics and other reasons. The Taylor is so beautiful. 4 woods- Sitka top, Rosewood side & back, Mahogany neck, & maple binding. This thing sounds amazing. Deep rich bass, crisp highs. I own a Taylor 214ce for over 3 years, loved that so much I wanted to upgrade, so I jumped to the 814ce. And the neck, oh so sweet, Taylor has mastered the neck. I have never spent so much on a guitar, but I have no regrets. This is the '13 model with the expression 1 electronics, I like this one more than the newer version with the expression 2 system. Plus the price is lower than the new models. I also like the neck inlays of the '13 version over the '14+. You can tell quickly by checking the pick guard. This one ('13) has the plastic guard, the '14 has real rosewood pick guard. Not too many of them left, hard to find, price won't go down too much more unless it's used. Cheers.
