  • Awesome acoustic!

As reviewed by Mike Harris on 4/25/2010

I traded a Martin 000C-16GTE for this guitar. I found the feel of the neck and the overall playability to be better than the Martin. I A/B'd this with a 214ce, and the difference in tone was huge. The 314 is definately the way to go. I have always felt that Taylors seem to sound and feel more "alive" than the Martins I have handled (all sub $2000 models) but I also felt that the Taylors are a too bright for my taste. However I was able to fix that issue completely by using Martin Clapton's Choice light strings. This brought the brighness under control and gave the guitar a richer fuller sound with more bottom end, and still clean crisp highs. I would not call the sound "warm", I would call it rich and full, with the aliveness of the Taylor sound, but without the over the top brightness the Elixers give them. I am totally satisfied with this guitar now, and view it as a big step up from the Martin both in playability, feel and tone. These comments apply to the unplugged sound of the guitar. I have not used the pickups much, but I think they sound pretty good. There are two switches inside the sound hole that change the pickup configuration/and tone. This was something I didn't know until I saw it on youtube. Figured I would pass it along here.

  • Mr. Dependable

As reviewed by Joe Davis on 2/18/2010

This guitar has never let me down. I gig 3-6 nights a week and the 314CE just keeps on ticking. Change the battery and the strings regularly and she sounds like a dream everytime. If you want great sound, playability, dependability and just great playing fun get this guitar. You won't be sorry.

  • The honest truth.

As reviewed by Michael on 8/20/2010

I spent hours in Guitar Center trying to figure out which guitar to buy. I happily bought this one. Taylor guitars are just made in an amazing way. The reason I bought the 314 though, is because it adds the compression system which is a major jump from the 114 and 214. I'm sure anyone will tell ya though, Taylors sound amazing! Best option in my opinion.
