Supreme comfort with the warmth of sapele and peerless craftsmanship.

The Taylor 312-CE Grand Concert Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar is easy to hold and always fun to play. This small-bodied beauty features elegant black fiber binding, a gloss top, Venetian cutaway, and the Taylor Expression System for unparalleled amplified performance. The warm tone and open midrange of the guitar's sapele back and sides balances the bright and snappy characteristics of a solid Sitka spruce top. Rupert Neve-designed Expression System electronics with Dynamic Sensors and tone controls capture top and string vibration like never before. The finish used to create the 312-CE acoustic-electric's textured satin back and sides and lustrous gloss top was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. The ultraviolet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.

  • Love it...LOVE IT

As reviewed by Scott on 7/20/2010

I have had this guitar for several years. I love it. It has a great sound. Unplugged it has emphasis on the higher tones but still sounds full. But this guitar was meant to be plugged in and it sounds great (granted, with anything you plug in it depends on what you are plugging in to). If I have a negative it is that it is thin between the sound hole and the bottom of the guitar, so I find myself slumping over when playing, but I more often just always wear a strap whether sitting or standing. The Grand Concert is a smaller guitar and I have some female friends that like it for that reason. I really can't say anything bad about this guitar. It sounds and plays great. If you want it, get it. You won't be sorry. I won't say it will be the last guitar you'll ever get, but if it is, you will be set!

  • A Great Guitar

As reviewed by Bradley on 2/17/2011

The Taylor 312ce Grand Concert is an excellent guitar. It has a crisp, clear sound and feels nice and light in your hands. The body is simply gorgeous. Each curve is precisely constructed and shows an extreme attention to detail. The neck is also something to marvel at. It feels so comfortable changing notes and allows you to slide up and down the guitar with wonderful ease. The guitar also comes with the Taylor Expression System, which produces a full, dreamy sound when playing through an amp. The 312ce does have a few drawbacks, however. This is a small body guitar through and through. The depth and length of the body are thinner and shorter than most acoustic guitars, so it might take a little getting used to. Yet it still manages an impressive sound. The neck is also slightly shorter than most acoustics (24 7/8 inches versus 25 1/2 inches). The shorter distance makes the strings feel tighter and slightly less bendable. At the time of this review, guitarcenter.com lists the neck length as 25 1/2, but this is incorrect. Check Taylor's official website for all the accurate stats. Before you commit to purchasing this guitar I would take a very close look at the Taylor Guitars 310ce Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar and the Taylor Guitars 314ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic Electric Guitar. Both are in the same price range as the 312ce and both have more of a smooth punch to their unplugged sound. Both have slightly bigger bodies and, as such, produce more bass and volume. With that said, if you plan to do the majority of your playing through an amp then you won't hear a difference. Even with the few drawbacks, this is still an exceptional instrument.
