Warm, crisp solid-wood Taylor tone for the plugged set.
The appealing tone and subtle nuances of the Taylor 214e Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a solid Sitka spruce top and an Indian rosewood laminate body are amplified with clarity and warmth, thanks to the Taylor UST Under-Saddle Transducer pickup and ES-T electronics. The result is a high-fidelity, low-impedance signal for clear, acoustic amplified tone. The Taylor 214-E has a mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, and a 25-1/2" scale. A durable varnish finish offers protection, good looks, and a smooth feel.
The Grand Auditorium body combines the width and depth of a dreadnought with a narrower waist. Its sleek design yields a strong treble zing across the tonal spectrum and sharpens the definition of individual notes. The Taylor 214e Grand Auditorium is a strong fingerpicking guitar that also adapts well to medium strumming.

The perfect guitar for recording
I bought the Taylor 214-E a little over 4 months ago and I have to say it sounds absolutely beautiful. I was searching for a guitar that was affordable and could still hang with $2,000 + guitars available. I am a studio engineer as well as a musician and from both aspects, this guitar is perfect. I was searching for a guitar that had a rather large mid-high tone clarity, and the second I played the first chord I knew it was a winner. There is one problem that I incountered after buying the 214-E, and that was the internal micing system. Outside from recording I play live gigs quit a bit and when plugging this guitar into an amp, you have to be very carefull not to over haul the preamp that Taylor uses. I typiclly just play the guitar with a mic placed in front, yet I dont believe this is the guitar I would buy if you are solely going to be giging with it. I would spend the extra 500 and get a Taylor with the expression system. Also the battery located inside the guitar is impossible to change while strung. So you have to take off 2-3 strings in order to change it. But I am bieng very picky with this review, and having once owned a Martin and a Takamini I will tell you that this Taylor is by far the best guitar I have ever owned. If you are a musician looking to record this is deffinately the way to go, also if you are just a hobbiest that would rarely be needing to plug into an amp this is deffinatly the way to go. There has never and will never be a guitar under a grand that will sound this good.

Taylor's best kept secret
Many guitarists know that the best way to compare several guitars is with the eyes closed. When we shopped for a new guitar for my teen aged son, that is exactly what we did.
Playing new and used guitars in the one to two thousand dollar price range at Guitar Center we found that we kept coming back to the Taylor 214. This grand auditorium delights and surprises with every note. The action is typical Taylor, fast and smooth. In the end, we bought the sound of the 214. If it were a food, it would be fine dark chocolate. It has a rich warm bass, a clearly separated mid-range and a really clear, chimey, high end. The body is sappell, pretty as Mahogany and equally warm in tonal response. The fit and finish is impeccable and the look is understated and tasteful. We have fallen in love with the 214, which gets more use than our Taylor 412M. As a guitarist for over 45 years I have come to realize that it ain?t the trim or hype I want, it?s the tone. And the 214 delivers tone by the ton.
