  • Great Set, and Hardware!

As reviewed by Alexander on 6/18/2014

This Set is Great! For the price you can't go wrong. The sound is just as good as an $800 + drumset. The added 10" tom adds flavor, and is easily mounted with the hardware that is included. It also comes with a tuckaway cymbal stand on the bass drum. All together you can display 3 cymbals. The quality of the hardware is much more than I expected as well. Why 4 Stars? The Heads. They are terrible. I added Evans 2-ply, and the sound was amazing. Another small issue on the rack toms was that they went from a 12" to a 13" instead of a 14". The jump to the 16" floor tom was a bit dramatic. I resolved the issue by purchasing a $10 head muffler for the floor tom, to allow flow, and tuned accordingly. Other than those minor issues, I still use them as a touring kit, and couldn't be more pleased. Good Job Taye!

I have been drumming for well over seven years now on a PDP Z5. Great beginners drum set for $250, I highly recommend it for student/entry level and even intermediate drummer. Anyways, the time came to get a higher quality kit that I could actually use all my skill on. This kit is SO IMPRESSIVE. I just cannot get over it. The 6-piece layout, along with a double bass drum pedal, is basically like a 7-piece kit. The 22x16" bass drum has a good resonant head with it and with a blanket on the inside for dampening and an Aquarian SuperKick II on it, it has a very nice deep thud that is well-suited for metal or rock. The telescoping bass drum legs make this bass drum rock will not move. The one center tom mount is extremely sturdy and has a cymbal mount receptacle on the top, allowing you to put in a small cymbal arm and mount like a splash between your toms. The L-Rod ball-bearing suspended tom mounts are strong, well-designed and allow you to get any angle you want on the toms. The 10x8.5" mounts easily onto a cymbal stand. The snare is probably the stand out. I have seen multiple reviews claiming the snare to not be up to par with the rest of the kit. I can't understand this however...because after tightening the resonant head of the snare super tight, and then using a Remo coated Emperor (tuned very tightly) as the batter and slightly adjusting the throwback tension, I was blown away by this snare. It sounds like a professional snare. It seems like other reviewers may be partially right as in the snare isn't as good if you don't put the right heads on it and tune it well but if you do what I did, you will not be disappointed. Also, because it is 5.5" deep as opposed to 5" or 6" deep, it gives you the best of both worlds. The toms all sound warm and resonate well with no buzzing or flatness to their tone. The birch shells of all the drums make a difference. Very controlled and studio-sounding, with warm resonance and no overtones. Plus, doing rolls and fills on all these toms is very easy and sounds awesome. I was afraid that I wouldn't get them tuned to their full potential but I found they already sounded good after simply putting the heads on them. The snare stand is great and its ball-bearing design allows for it to be placed at any angle. Furthermore the rest of the hardware is simply impressive. Never have I seen such rugged, well-designed hardware for such a good price. We are talking hardware that rivals Tama. The cymbal stands are very sturdy and the boom cymbal stand adds flavor to the set. The hi hat stand is nothing short of is beefy, cool looking with a nice pedal, has strong, springy tension and you can also angle the pedal any way you want so as to keep it out of the way if you have a double bass layout. The bass drum pedal I didn't use on this set but I have it on my Yamaha DTX electric kit (highly recommended, $999) and it is also great. The steel base plate for it makes it very sturdy. All in all, a bada$$ drum set with great looks, professional sound, professional technology and sturdy hardware for a good price. Go for it. I recommend using a Remo coated Emperor on the snare, Remo clear emperors on the toms and the Aquarian SuperKick II on the bass drum and if you tune them right (follow my instructions on the snare) you will be very happy. This set is amazing and just too underrated. It does not deserve being underrated. If you want the perfect deal on a new kit, this is it.
