Comments about Tascam US-16x08 USB Audio Interface:

I have been using Tascam gear since the early 70s, and this unit seems typical of their pro-sumer quality stuff - inexpensive, easy to work with, and as reliable as a brick. I had several glitches with it at first, but the manual and a couple decades of trouble-shooting computers helped me get up and running after a few tweaks to my DAW of choice's (Reaper) preferences panel, and I was rocking out. One thing I should mention - the output signals are HOT! I was running the amp that powers my mains wide open with my previous interface, but had to pull it back to about 2 or 3 to get the same volume after installing the US16X08! Certainly not a con, but something to be aware of when you first power up after it is installed.

Comments about Tascam US-16x08 USB Audio Interface:

I just got on here to see the reviews and see if anyone else had problems with the drivers. YUP. I just bought this from GC but I'll probably return it now. The drivers are so bad. I can't use any other audio apps (itunes, windows media player, youtube, etc.) while my DAW (Cubase 7) is open. While listening to music and doing basic computer stuff, audio gets choppy...really bad. Worst of all, just recording acoustic guitar tracks with a mic, the track had a bunch of static. It wasn't clipping. My computer meets all of the system requirements so I know it's not on my end. It could just be bad compatibility with Windows 7 though. Either way, really not impressed. They probably had a great product here but the drivers suck. So I'll have to keep shopping around

Comments about Tascam US-16x08 USB Audio Interface:

Bought this unit in 3/2015. It didn't work well due to the drivers but since its TEAC / TASCAM I felt confident a patient wait would be rewarding. Not so. They just can't get the Blue Screen of Death fixed. The machine itself is great when it works before the crash dump bsod. I'm not gonna get into all the workarounds. It's the drivers. Bottom line. Too bad. This unit has everything else especially a great price. If the drivers don't ruin tascams rep then this may become the working mans recording interface and excellent sounding pc audio.

Comments about Tascam US-16x08 USB Audio Interface:

After installing driver it integrated seamlessly and flawlessly with Presonus Studio One 3. Not a single issue. However you should have a high performance PC because it is CPU intensive. Plenty of RAM also. I have a Core-i7 with 32GB of 2400mhz DDR3.

      Drivers are terrible

Comments about Tascam US-16x08 USB Audio Interface:

I can't really discuss the finer points of this hardware, because I could never get the drivers to work. I tried two computers, one with freshly reinstalled Windows 7, and many different configurations over many, many crashes and hours of frustration before I finally gave up and returned it to Amazon. Hardly plug-and-play.

      Smart Design

      By Timothy

Comments about Tascam US-16x08 USB Audio Interface:

Most audio interfaces don't have EQ & compression available at the tracking stage, and therefore make your 'mobile' recording unit over complex, and quite costly. I own the TASCAM US 1800, and upgraded to the Focusrite 18i20. This TASCAM 16 08 may be a smarter choice, here's why... 1) The TASCAM 16 08 will record all 16 tracks at 88.2khz. The Focusrite will cut the tracks in half when going beyond 44.1khz 2) The TASCAM 16 08, if owned, would allow you to rout everything directly into the recording unit, and eliminate the need to purchase a PreSonus ACP-88 compressor, $300 used price! 3) The last thing to consider is the sound. I have experience with the TASCAM field recorder, and higher quality unit than the TASCAM US 1800. I have no doubt that if TASCAM wanted to, they could give the customer a really nice DA converter with pre-amp. It is my recommendation for all recording musicians to consider this unit before all others. The lack of recording software included, and driver issues may be the main problem, but if you can get this unit to operate... I can't seem to find any reason why this unit wouldn't be a best choice. You should at least purchase this first, and see if you can get it to work with your configuration.
